UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT--WAITING LIST

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am waitlisted in the top third and was initially told that there would be a lot of movement in May. I am distressed to hear that there hasn't been much, as I was hoping that I had a pretty solid shot at getting in. I tried to call today to see what the latest scoop might be, but was unable to get through. Anybody besides singingdoc in off the waitlist?? or have any info???

Don't fret just yet, Ronni. Movement in May produces people pulled off the waitlist in June. Once people send in letters declining UVM, then they can start pulling people off the wait list. Given the timeframe that's been in effect all year, and the fact that you are in the top third, I wouldn't worry. The Dean all but said that they always take the top third eventually...patience, young grasshopper. =)

altaskier, dynamic02, kutastha(?), operadoc, and anybody else who's going to UVM: how are we going to find reliable roommates, you guys? I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get home sick since I live so far away, so sharing a two-bedroom apartment with another person sounds like a great idea...do Eve Green and/or Mary Keefe give possible roommate info?•••••None for me thanks. Just my cats.

Email Eve Green ([email protected]) she'll send you some kind of newsletter with apartments and roommate info.

I called admissions a few times this morning but nobody answered so I left a message. I was hoping they would call back but I never heard from them. :( *sniff* *sniff*. Well maybe tomorrow, or the next day... or the next... or... *sniff* *sniff* (I'm not gonna change my name to 1st Tear Drop just yet though!)

I'm sure you will all get in.

BTW......has anyone been able to get through to the office and find out when orientation is and when classes start? I've tried calling a couple of times and can't get through. If anyone finds out, please post.

I called the office of admissions today and Mary told me that there hasn't been much movement....I am in the middle-third of the waiting list so it's pretty stressful.

Anybody else find out other information concerning the waiting list?

Please post....

thundercat....did she say they were expecting more mvt? any idea if their class is currently "full"?

I called again and spoke to Mary today as well. She said there has been some movement but it's still very slow and to check back with their office in a few weeks (again). I also asked whether she thought the waitlist movement has been lagging due to the delay with AMCAS this year, but all she could say is every year is different. Ugh.

About orientation and the first day of classes: she was uncertain about it herself. Perhaps someone else can ask again to confirm this for everybody. I'm surprised this information was not provided to those of you who have been admitted. Has anybody received the schedule of classes for the first semester with a book/supply list of some kind? What are they mailing out?

(edited)

altaskier and 1st rain drop: I emailed Eve Green and she told me that orientation will be held on August 12, and classes start on the 13th. She said that they will be sending me financial aid packages, etc. in the mail this summer, so I guess I'll have to wait another couple weeks or so.

good luck to those still waiting! i'm still waiting to hear from creighton and slu (and ucsd, but that's another story), and they say movement in those schools are not as fast as they had anticipated either, so maybe it's a nationwide deal (i dunno, could be wrong), but there's still two full months until the beginning of class, so don't despair just yet!

I am in the middle third too, thundercat, so I know how you feel. I'm definitely not as hopeful as I was in the beginning, but I'm hoping that since everything was delayed this year, that the waitlist movement is just delayed as well. It would help if we could find out how much of their class is already full.

Can't they just expand their class and let us all in?

I'm very new to this. First of all: what does bumpin mean?? ANYWAY, I am waitlisted in the top third, but of course, that could mean anything. Traditionally, I heard what most of you had heard before, that there is usually a lot of movement. However, it doesn't appear that there has been much this year. Do you think those of us in the top third have a good chance, and when do you think we might know something?

Hi dino, welcome to SDN :) Bump means "bring up my post" and it bumps the thread to the top of the page so it gets more attention.

I think the first tier will get in, but at a slower rate than normal. I think everything has been slowed down due to amcas, but since UVM starts in August, all of you will have more time to get in. The amcas fiasco will hinder acceptances for people (like me) heading to a school that starts in July. I won't have much time to get off waitlists to go to a school I would prefer. Oh well....1 is enough :)

Singing doc, thank you for the information about the UVM start date and congratulations on your acceptance!!! :) :) :)

It's raining, it's pouring
the old man is snoring;
He BUMPed this thread and went to bed
and couldn't get up in the morning.

while I'm bumping...
why is it UVM and not UVT....people keep asking me this, and I don't have an answer....anyone???

more importantly...anyone else get in? get updates? I think I'm going to try to call tomorrow and see if they've had more mvt.....

•••••I think the VM is an abbreviation for a Latin phrase....something to do with mountains....

Don't ask me why I know this, but I think you're right D. Foxy--it stand for Universitas Viridis Montis--hence UVM--the univ. of the green mountains.

I wish you all well on the waiting list--hang in there!

hey everyone! :)

i disappeared for a short while (i have a tad bit less access to a computer now... that could be a good thing :D ) Anyway, waiting4uvm is right about the meaning behind "UVM." Also, I heard that orientation is August 12 and classes start August 13th.

Good luck again to you guys on the waiting list. Hang in there! :)

I understood it to be from the French- Vert Monte- Green Mountain(s)

could be right, prolly wrong

i believe the name of the state is from the french, and the UVM of the university is from the latin.

I withdrew today. I hope one of you gets my spot.

Good Luck
:)

To AltaSkier:

Thanks for the help. Were you wait-listed or were you actually accepted?

Lionel

P.S. For those who are not going to go to Vermont or are not serious about Vermont, please withdraw.

I was actually accepted. Good luck. UVM is a great school.

I JUST FOUND OUT!!! When I called admissions today I found out that my left thumbnail had chipped. Dang it. :D

Nobody answered though, so I'll call again tomorrow. Altaskier, where are you going?

Excuse me, but what did you find out??

Is anybody else moving on this Vermont list??

Has anyone called at all?

I hope things start moving because I'm tired of sweating bullets...

Lionel

Um, that was meant to be funny. But it didn't come across that way I guess. Sorry guys, it's just that humor is the only thing keeping me from going mad during this time.

Has anyone heard any news about Vermont? I think I will call tomorrow...

With all these SDNers posting recent acceptances, I hope that means more wait-listers are being accepted across the board. And that would mean more slots are being opened up....

Lionel

Hi UVMers,
i was hoping to get some info from you that have been accepted and those who are waitlisted.
i'm thinking about appliying to UVM for 2003, but just can't decide if i'm competitive or not. i am older-24, but no grad degree, just worked as a paramedic and took grad school class here and there for "fun." my mcats are avg (9, 8, 10) and good gpa, ECs, leadership all that stuff, and i'm from south carolina. could y'all post your scores or thoughts on if i have a chance if i apply. i'd appreciate it and could really use help saving money if it's unlikely to be accepted.
thanks y'all!
streetdoc
congrats to those accapted and good luck to those waitlisted!

I think you should go ahead and apply. They seem to like non-traditional applicants and go easy on numbers. They are also primary care oriented, so if that's your thing, it could help you. I have a feeling I was placed at the bottom of the waitlist after a GREAT interview b/c on my practice vision I wrote I wanted to practice derm in an urban area....big mistake.

I was interviewed with a 27P (9,9,9) and a 3.67 gpa (3.5 science). So you definitely have a shot  Good luck!

Hey Streetdoc,
I think you should definitely apply-- both your stats and extracurricular experiences sound great! :) Also, although there may seem to be a focus on primary care, I have actually had the chance to meet and speak with some folks who just graduated this past year and are specializing in a variety of different areas; also they are headed to different parts of the country including Boston and California. So in general, they prepare you very well to be a doctor and the students seem really happy and excited about UVM.
Best of luck to ya and if you have any further questions, i don't have all the answers, but hopefully i can give you some helpful tips. :)

bump... over a month since May 15th and still waiting.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more waitlist movement for UVM! They made it seem like everyone would get in.

UVM....Here I Come!!!

Received a phone call offering me a place in the class from Dean Gleeson this evening.....will be headed there in a matter of weeks! :D

So...the list is still moving!! Don't give up hope!!

Congrats!!!

So, do you guys think all of tier one will get in?

I ask b/c I'm in a similar situation w/ another school...they say the top tier will probably get in....so what do u think?

For those people who are going to uvm this year. Did you get the orientation packet yet?

I just got my orientation packet today

The Dean of Admissions left me a message on my voicemail at work last Friday @ 1PM Pacific time. I went to work today (Monday) and was pleasantly surprised when I finally listened to it. Yup, I got in! They're making phone calls and faxing the admission offers to expedite the process. For those of you still waiting, make sure all your contact info is up-dated and that you check your voicemail/answering machines regularly. Good luck everyone, and I look forward to seeing a lot of you acceptees in August.

Congrats 1st Rain Drop!!!!!!!!

Congrats Dr. BC and 1st Rain Drop.

NICE!!!

:)

Congrats 1st Rain Drop!!!     :D

I'll be withdrawing from the waitlist, but since I was at the bottom tier, it prolly won't be helping anyone

Congrats 1stRain Drop--I guess you do ot have to change your name afterall (to Tear Drop that is).

Congrats to Dra.Foxy as well--whose on her way to be a Gator.

Best of luck to anyone else on this list who wants in.

I look forward to meeting you all in August. I still need a place to stay--I'm thinking of Trinity Housing right now. Any of you thinking the same?

Also, I got my orientation packet this weekend. Let me know if any of you are doing that whole ropes thing. Thanks.

I am really scared about doing the ropes course, but I wonder if it will make a difference when bonding with your particular anatomy group.
