Such a sigh of relief... feels like the a mountain has been lifted off my shoulders 🙂 So excited for the next things to follow. Good luck everyone 🙂

And now it's time to go back to studying for tomorrow exam, finally I can focus on my work.
I feel like a giant weight was lifted too after submitting my application 🙂 But I know if I get an interview I will be super super nervous again haha

Good luck on your midterm!

Does anyone know how many applicants they will be interviewing?

I'd like to know too... it's weird because after FOUR cycles of admissions, we still don't know exactly how waterloo admission process works...😕

I don't know how many people will be interviewed, but I do know that more than 600 applicants applied!😱

Who did you get this info from.. and I'm guessing there's a lot of overlap between U of T and Waterloo applicants because their pre-reqs are more similar now.

hmm does anyone know how many people applied for waterloo last year?

Well when I called Louise to ask a question about my application status (particularly RL) she said that there were more than 600 applicants and that is why they were a bit late at replying e-mails and such. I was very surprised to be honest! That's a lot of people!!! And ya you might be right about the similarities, but U of T requires PCAT.

geez...that is A LOT of applicants, but then again UW requires courses that uoft doesn't such as genetics and microbio, so hopefully there are applicants without the completed pre-reqs...

i'm beginning to feel like i don't even stand a chance with that many applicants...

Actually if you look at it, waterloo admits 120 students out of about 600ish whereas, toronto admits 240 from just more than 1000 applicants (in previous years). So the odds for getting in end up being relatively the same. Also, I can't remember where but I read somewhere that waterloo interview 240 applicants so if you make it to the interview portion you should technically have a 50% chance of getting in.
Anyhow, there is no point in worrying now, the application is in and all you have to do now is pray for an interview and try your best 🙂

PhArMaCiSt1 is right - there's nothing you can do; I always say the more negative you feel towards something you want, the farther you push it away - so stay positive, keep good energy and work hard for the rest of the school year and you'll get the interview if you deserve it!
I, too, feel like my chances are low because although most of my grades are As and A+s, I have one C, one B and one B+ that may put me at a disadvantage, but there's nothing I can do about it - we gotta apply and see where our applications take us, right?

(btw, if anyone knows or heard of anything regarding how serious UW looks at each individual grade, please let me know lol)

actually, I have heard that Waterloo does not put as much emphasis on marks. I was talking to a girl who got in as part of the first class and she was telling me that the marks for Waterloo aren't a huge deal at all, instead they are looking for the most well rounded individuals... So based on this, I would say don't worry and keep being optimistic and positive (as you have always been) 👍😀👍

I've heard the very same stats regarding previous years... but we are expecting the applicant number to be quite lower than 1000 for UofT this year 😉

But my philosophy is that no matter how many people apply, your chances of getting in are in your own hands... meaning: that the best way to increase your chances is simply by working hard, getting good grades, and having decent EC and all these things will get you a spot, NOT by having fewer people applying. Hope that makes sense :xf: 🙂

You must not be a U of T student.

Yes from the applicant numbers (the one you get once the application is submitted) that people stated in this forum, I am predicting that it is just above 600 for this cycle but I could be wrong. And ya I totally agree with you, your acceptance does depend on your performance/grades 🙂

What are the differences between U of T Experiential Education and Waterloo co-op? Will student get paid in co-op or experiential education?

Does anybody know the answer? I would like to know if students get paid when they are doing experiential education (intern?) at U of T.

Thank you.

anyone in here missing a course? I'm missing thermodynamics....I hope that doesn't put me at a large disadvantage, especially with 600 applicants!! :scared:

I am missing a genetics course.

after reading this entire thread, i am feeling quite crushed now that i realize missing a prerequisite course can put you at a severe disadvantage. i also am missing genetics.

I also feel the same way, but if the majority of applicants are missing a course, then I would assume they wouldn't be that strict. Let's hope for the best and cross our fingers :xf:

For those who are missing a course, when do you plan on doing it and how many are you missing and which ones? It all depends, I think.

I am missing one course and I plan to take it in Fall 2011, if I get accepted. What do you mean it all depends?

hahaha I think all of this 'waiting to hear back about interview invites' situation has really gotten to me, because yesterday I had a dream I was taking a tour of the pharmacy school building at waterloo and it was really gorgeous!!

In my opinion, the disadvantage of missing a course depends on 1. how many courses you are missing, 2. when you plan on finishing the course(s), and 3. which courses you are missing (if it is a more significant course, like the sciences, or if it is a humanities elective). I believe some people have been admitted before with missing up to 2 courses (they do not look at applicants who are missing 3+ missing courses).

Note: Missing a course means you are NOT taking it right now and have not taken it before.

Although I don't think missing a course puts you at a huge disadvantage it does say something about your dedication to the admissions commitee. Someone who completed ALL the pre-reqs was conscientious enough to plan ahead and take those classes, ensured they met all the requirements, etc. It would be unfair for someone missing pre-reqs to be treated equally to someone who followed the instructions and completed all of them.

I agree with your logic. And now that the school has been around for 4 years, everyone should've been well-aware of the prerequisites by now and planned accordingly to get them done before applying... That said, I'm not trying to say those who are missing a course are not deserving or what ever!

It's interesting because I was just thinking about getting a tour of the school soon... but I found out that they don't offer tours AND the interviews won't take place in the pharmacy building... so I would be pretty bumped to see my school for the first time on the first day of classes 🙁

I see. Im only missing the genetics requirement which ive stated that i would complete in the summer semester by June. However, I do feel a bit careless because I couldve taken it this current semester but I was reading a different forum with some students saying that they got accepted to Waterloo despite missing several courses, so I thought I could do the same.

*hits head against wall*

I would think if you've put in your application that you will be taking it by June then there's no reason that they shouldn't consider you equally. The only way I can see this being a disadvantage is if they plan on interviewing x number of applicants and ALL those applicants have completed the prerequisites and meet other minimum requirements then missing a pre-req would obviously put you at a disadvantage there but I highly doubt that that many people would have completed all pre-reqs and would meet minimum reqs...

So as along as other aspects of your application are strong (e.g. minimum GPA is met and grades in other courses are good) then you should get an interview.

But of course this is just speculation. Hopefully things will work out for you 🙂. Also, there is always the option of completing the course and then re-applying in november for admission in January, you wouldn't lose any time.

Is that possible? I've never heard of this. Are you talking about those who are placed in the "wait list"?

Well this option is not anything official... HOWEVER, applicants this year got an email saying that there is an option to apply by November to be considered for the upcoming January 2011 (only if they have all the prerequisites)... As far as I know, this year was the only year that this was possible and the reason was that they did not have enough "qualified" applicants to fill all the spots.

And just a note on missing prerequisites, I don't mean to sound pesimistic, but from what I read on last years forum it seemed like the faculty was very firm about their requirements. But don't take my word, do your own research and read last year's posts, and most importantly stay positive and optimistic.... best of luck everyone 😉 🙂

I may be wrong, but I think the option of applying in november was also given the previous year.

But yeah for sure, it's not guaranteed that this will be an option this year as well. But it seems that spots were extremely limited for this option.

Does anyone know how we can try to prepare for the interview? Or what type of questions we might be asked? Has anyone had an interview at Waterloo before?

If I remember correctly the school initially interviewed 197 applicants last year.

I am just very curious, if both U of T and Waterloo give you offers, which school will you go?

Flip a coin, LOL :meanie:

but on serious note.. I'm not exactly sure just yet, there are pros and cons for both! but first you have to wait and see if you actually do get accepted to both

that would be a tough decision...i'm personally leaning a BIT towards waterloo because of the co-op program as well as the fact that it starts in January. I want the time off to do some traveling. On the other hand it would be a lot easier to live in Toronto, cheaper as well as I could live at home. So it would be a tough decision for me...but I'd be ecstatic if I were to get offers from both schools!
