10 more dayss until interviewws begin!! :scared:
i'm officially done exams and hopefully that was the last exam at york!! :luck:
i wish that you guys are done also so we can all just focus on preparing for the interviews!! good luck on the rest of your exams!

I'm still kinda of confused about the interview

its 5-10 minutes of YOU talking about your passion, like does anything work here, can I talk about how I love to play soccer,

and is that all, 5-10 minutes
does it then become them asking questions about YOUR talk, or about anything.

CAN'T wait until exams + interview are over... lol I NEED A SUMMER BREAK SO BADDDD 😀

yup, the 5-10 presentation is about anything YOU love or are passionate about.. after the presentation, they might ask you about what you talked about... or they might ask you questions that are not related to your topic.. good luck!

I wonder if we will present sitting down or standing up.. or can we choose? lol

LOL, sitting down obv... it would be super awkward to stand up in front of 3-4 people in a small room 😛

are you ready to present ?

lol okay makes sense 😳

i'm not even close to being ready - so lost with what to do lol :scared:

same dont worry

cant imagine just sitting there and to start talking non stop about myself and what im so good at with no feedback for 5 minutes

GUYS! Don't be worried, we got this.

Be calm, talk with confidence, be enthusastic, and try not to be so monotone.

Just realize that if you kill this interview, you are in pharmacy school!!

We can do this!! Good luck to everyone!!

ohhh myyyy.

i'm so nervous and confused as to how I should do my self-presentation on top of preparing for the interview itself.

though i just finished exams yesterday, i still feel the weight of more stress and pressure. ><

i was planning on doing a powerpoint presentation and i emailed louise just to make sure it would be ok, this is what she said:
You will not be provided any extension cords or equipment for a PP presentation and will not be allowed any extra time for set up. It’s up to you keeping this in mind.

so just a heads up to anyone who was thinking of doing one

kinda sucks but i guess i just have to think of something even better...blaaahh

Are people really going all out on this? Will just an oral presentation suffice? What's the norm?😕

Lol, I think doing an actual powerpoint is pushing it a little... just my 5 cents 😉

I have a question regarding those who received an interview with a high average... what happens if someone (with an exceptional application and GPA and interview) failed one of the courses for this term (orgo II)? Does anyone know anything about this?

I think everything is riding on ur interview, if u do amaze them during the interview they might let u retake it as a summer course.. I'm not sure; does anyone know or heard of anything about this??

I agree with Yazahra89 on the interview thing, but I still think they will take it into consideration, as they are still reviewing our transcripts one last time - this is probably to check that we didn't do too badly in our last semester. Given that it's a pre-req too, I'm not really sure. 😕

If after your interview they don't let you take it and admit you, you can do the following:
1. Enroll in the course for the summer.
2. Petition the failing grade and remove it from ur transcript.
3. Apply in august/september for jan 2011 - seats will probably be open again.

Anyone else know anything?

Considering that last year they were quite firm and inflexible with their prerequisites, I doubt they would overlook a failed chemistry course. That said, as YaZahra mentioned, you can retake the course in summer and apply again in August and still get in for this coming January class.

But I'm really unsure about this situation, your best bet is to call Louise (in admissions) and ask her 😉

Best of luck.

p.s. do you mind if I ask which university you took that orgo course in... I know for a fact that orgo at Western was kinda brutal this year 🙄

btw - i can imagine how hard this must be for you, but i signed on just to say this: DON'T GIVE UP, because honestly it is not over yet... as you mentioned, your a competitive candidate and you have a high GPA and a great application.. so you MUST ace your interview. speak with ken potvin or julie pocock about this situation, and when they assess your transcript, they will see that you are enrolled for the summer and will complete it way before january.. they will admit you if ur interview is amazing.. secondly, if they do not admit you.. you have the august application (i know it sucks to pay another $200), but just remember - it's not over yet. you came this far and ur hard work will pay off :luck:

good luck to all of us

so how is everyone's interview preparation going? i'm still a little concerned about my presentation!

thank you so much this gave me so much hope i know it can not be over and i will keep trying thank you so much i emailed Mrs. Buhlman and she said this
You are expected to successfully complete all required courses before you will be admitted to our program in January 2012.

does this mean that i can take it in the summer?

so how is everyone's interview preparation going? i'm still a little concerned about my presentation!

you'll be fine!
i'm done typing up my presentation - i'm not going to memorize it because it might limit me from expanding on my points; i'm just going to keep rereading it and know the key points and just let it come out naturally when i'm there.. i also answered some key pharmacy interview questions and will practice those as well..

good luck everyone!

Yes, it means that all the required courses must be complete before January 2012. Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, it's also possible that they may still give you a conditional acceptance as they've been known to give in the past; they may accept you but require that you successfully complete the course before January 2012. This might be what Ms. Buhlman could have been alluding to in her e-mail! 🙂

I could be in the same position as you actually, desirepharm. As my school does not have the cell biology laboratory component (only the lecture portion, which I've completed), even if I am accepted, it's conceivable that they may only allow me entry into the program if I complete the lab component at a school that offers it such as UW. I had previously emailed Ken Potvin about this matter and he said this might be the case, or given that I've completed quite a few upper year biology courses with laboratory components, the admissions committee may overlook the missing lab. So don't give up hope yet. Given your excellent application, I'm sure that even with this minor setback, you'll be there in January! 🙂

And thanks Yazahra89! That's what I am doing too, jotting my presentation down and reading it over. I definitely agree with you on memorizing not necessarily being a good thing. With presentations in the past, I've found that trying to memorize lines ends up making me stumble and coming across as a bit unnatural - definitely NOT what you're aiming for in an interview such as this one! 🙂

How formal do you guys think the 10 minutes are
I'm assuming non formal since its about you , for example do you see some laughs being shared, using less formal words when describing some situations, using hands, or are they expecting a real proffesional verbal presentation.
And Im assuming its gonna be us sitting facing 4 people and giving them equal stare time 😛 is there any conversation or feedback during this time or is it YOU straight for 10 minutes

are they gonna be friendly, nice, smile (nod head), or trained robots like the MMI interviewers

I PASSED! OMG I WAS UNAWARE THAT THE PROFESSOR WILL BE BELL CURVING AND HE PASSED ME! My average will still be in the mid-80s after this grade (which is just wayyy below the usual A).

Damn, the things organic can do a person's mind. Do you think they will look at the organic II grade and reject me based on that grade; do grades even matter after interviews?

Is there a waiting list for UW Pharmacy after acceptance to the school has been given. I'm guessing there will be a lot of people who will be accepted to other pharmacy schools or professional schools and will reject acceptance offers from UW.

Powerpoint is too much? What are you thinking of doing?

well, I personally think that using powerpoint presentations in an interview like this is not very suitable... but that's just my personal opinion 😉

and if you read previous posts, I have already mentioned what I'll be doing.

I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck on your waterloo interviews; Good luck everyone 😀😀

Best of luck to you man.

2 more days till interviews start! LETS DO THIS!!😎

one more day!! good luck everyoneee!! prepare well!

good luck to everyone!! let us know how your interview went! I'm sure everyone here will do fantastic 🙂

Are people really bringing props for their presentation? I'm considering bringing something, but I don't want to be the odd one out. Hah.

I don't think everyone is bringing props but there are probably some who are. Unless you think it's necessary for whatever it is you're talking about, I would say it should be fine for you to simply speak about your topic. I decided to discuss my volunteer experiences at a long term care centre, so I'm not bringing anything to my talk, because I don't think it would improve my presentation at all. It's really up to you.

Good luck!

Will we be given the full 10 minutes. The email said 5-10... and when I did a run though of my talk, it's pretty much on the dot D: gahhhhh!

You're fine with 10 minutes. Don't stress too much about that 👍

Hey all,

just finished my interview today! i think the worst part was the wait in between the RC WT test and the interview. other than that, everyone was super friendly.

if you haven't read the link that Pharmacist1 posted, it was pretty on the money.

good luck :luck:

just had mine two hours ago now, and waiting for the test! pharmacy0 was definitely right about the waiting being the worst part!

i would say the biggest things for the interview are to be yourself and to know yourself. if you can get that across in a clear way, you should be fine.

don't be nervous yazahra89! everyone there is really friendly and you will do great. 🙂 you seem like someone who would definitely be prepared.

thank youu departure! good luck on your test! :luck:

Hope all your interviews have been going amazing! I have been reading the threads for awhile now and I finally decided to make an account. You all have greatly inspired me with your positive thoughts and optimism.

I just have a question for you all. For the Waterloo interview, are we allowed to shake hands with the interviewer at the beginning of the interview? I am aware that we aren't allowed to shake hands at the UofT MMI stations but I am not too sure about Waterloo.

I'd appreciate your advices 🙂

Good luck everyone and thanks for being SO amazing 😉
