University of Waterloo c/o 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I was finally able to get all my Quest issues sorted out and officially accepted the offer! But I haven't been emailed any information about the school like when the first day of class is, whether there's a frosh week or not, what textbooks we'll need etc etc.

Did anyone else receive useful information that they can share? Thanks

You will receive a letter in the mail that has details about everything. Something I won't get this year because my emails have not been addressed as of yet.

Hey guys, do we get any confirmation email after accepting the offer of admission??

I didn't get any yet.

I also have a question. Under Admission Requirements Met on your Quest account, does your status say completed or initiated?

Hey, so are you withdrawing your app from UofT?

I'll go be the first student to get accepted into 2013 yay.

After I pass microbiology with a passing grade. Which means I only have to know half of what I'm actually doing huzzah!

That's not too bad after all. See you next year!

I haven't got anything in the mail. :(

We'll see dude, I still have my application for U of T...

Ideally, I wouldn't want to pay for more than tuition fees. =( But it's good to know I can somewhat relax in any case.

Food and rent. =(

I have food and a place here already.

(ps. the thing you got for Waterloo, that's one semester only)

Yeah, you would have to look at semester 1a,b etc for waterloo.

Mine says initiated, but i was done with my pre-req long time ago
Mine says "Intention to Matriculate". I'm missing one pre-req which im working on right now so it might be because of that.

Mine says matriculated now and whenever i click on it, it says that they have moved my file to student records.. which pre-req r u missing?

Mine still says initiated. I thought the options are either initiated or completed.

Hmm, you are giving me a second thought. But I don't want to wait 9 months... and the placements at UofT are usually unpaid positions.

congrats to everyone that got in! super inspiring. good news on my end too, a local pharmacy has decided to take me on as a volunteer! so relieved i am going to add extra weight to my application. ka pwow!

I'm missing thermochemistry.. not a fun course. I received an email from waterloo outlining the information for everything so that was nice.

@PharmAndroid: If you're flying everywhere for co-op, you do know you're the one paying for your relocation and food expenses...don't you?

Touche. All things similar, I want to chase that PharmD at the end, so I'll end up in U of T one way or another. ;)

Ya, I was wondering about that. I want Pharm D too. Will Waterloo ever get it? I mean both schools have pretty similar curriculum.

U of T will definitely get it first if anything. I think Waterloo will definitely emulate given the chance, though.

Anyone feel that UW taking more time than usual to respond to emails ? I emailed on Thursday but they still have not gotten back to me. :(

I got my acceptance letter in the mail last night =D

I got mine today :) .. by the way, do we need to send the final official transcript after this semester is over? This is something to worry about.. cuz ever since i got the admission, i have not been taking this semester seriously...lol

If you have a prerequisite course you're taking this semester that you're finishing up, you need to send your transcript to show them you passed it.

If not, you just send it to them because they "need" it. For what purpose, who knows.

Thanks a lot :) but I'm afraid that they won't be getting the updated transcript until the early- mid January

Yeah, they told me that it doesn't matter as long as you passed the course, you just need to send them a transcript.

They'll assume you passed until the numbers say otherwise.

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble finding a place and a room mate. Any suggestions/ help? Plz

Hey
Is anyone planning on answering the last question in the AP?
The one that asks you to explain why a certain grade is low or drop in academic performance etc etc..
I got a low mark in one of my chem courses and I was wondering how I should explain that?

I read in the 2015 thread that someone explained why they recieved a C on their transcript. I was thinking about this question as well. All of my courses are A's or A+'s but I have two B's sprinkled in there (due to my stupid studying skills of first year:mad:) I think I am just going to go ahead and explain this occurance and attribute it to inexperience because my last 60 credit hours have been pretty good (not to toot my own horn)

If anyone has been accepted to this school, please let me know so you can be added to the Official Roll Call for Class of 2015/2016. Please post in the sticky thread your acceptances and the program you will be attending (if accepted to multiple schools).

Hey guys,

When I click on the strobe.uwaterloo link they sent in the pdf in my email, I get a warning about the site being malicious. I tried this from 2 pc's and same thing both times. Anyone else get this?

Hi everyone,

I am in dire need of your help. I applied to Waterloo's 2013 Pharmacy through OUAC during the Christmas break. I still haven't gotten the confirmation from Waterloo that they received my application.
I know probably a lot of people applied during the break so it might take some time for them to process my application because they only got back to work for a few days so far.

However, my reference was nice enough to give me some time on Friday to have a talk with him about myself so he can write a better reference for me. However, because my application has not been received by Waterloo, they haven't sent me the 2013 Reference Letter Form yet.

So please, would someone be nice enough to send me the Reference Letter Form? My e-mail is [email protected] I promise I am not lying or anything, you can PM me if you want further proof or anything, please help!

Hey Chilol,

Same situation here...on Quest it says that they have received my application, but they didn't send a confirmation e-mail to me. However, you can fill out the Pharmacy Admissions Profile and it tells you to enter the name and e-mail address of the reference.

Does anybody know when the profile is due? On the website it says Feb. 10, but then doesn't the reference need to be sent and complete the reference form before the due date?

Thanks for you help!

Don't worry, all of your files will come in time.

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you are familiar to what GPA's people usually need to get an interview at Waterloo. I really want to go to Waterloo for pharmacy since it's close to home. It's an understatement to say that I am nervous.

cGPA is 3.3 with a math/science GPA of around 3.2. I also have an amazing reference from a pharmacist who i've been working with for 2 years. Is this good enough to at least get an interview?

Thanks, and good luck to you all.

Hey guys, for those of you who said that you still hadn't received your conformation email, did you get them yet? I'm also waiting for mine. Also, is it possible to do something for the application without the email? A bunch of people have mentioned Quest but I'm kinda confused as to what that is (is it waterloo admissions/application site?) and what sort of ID I'm supposed to use...

Hi, I'm an applicant too!!

I was wondering of anyone experienced was on the forum and could tell me what my chances are.

UofT 2nd Year, Pharmaceutical chemistry specialist program.
All course prerequisites fulfilled.
Cumulative GPA: 3.7/4.0
Low 80s in most courses.

LOR written by pharmacist.
Volunteered at his pharmacy for a year.

Major ECs
Researched in lab under chemistry faculty member for a summer..
Worked at a computer IT store where I did a lot of customer service as well as computer repair.
Volunteered as a tutor for a year with a high school student struggling with sciences/maths.
Went to an elementary school for a day and taught them about the brain and how to avoid brain injury (called Brain Day)
Played badminton, used to volunteer and help coach.

A few other short term volunteer jobs.

Thanks! I really appreciate it!

I suggest looking at the 2015 thread. That thread seemed to be very active with a lot of student stats. For the most part, a lot of students had your credentials and got in. My stats reflects yours as well. Hopefully we'll get interviews!:xf:

Just submitted my AP form! Feeling pretty good about it! Did anyone else submit theirs?

If there's one thing I learned from the last application period is that stressing about marks is not worth it! Do the best you can with your application and interview especially. I cannot stress the importance of the interview.

I had a subpar GPA (~3.2-3.3), with a horrendous first year (e.g. some of my marks in the first year pre-reqs were really quite bad). I also had a subpar interview, but did amazing on the writing test and managed to get in.

Do not worry about marks, Waterloo is a school that cares less about marks and more about who you are as a person. They really take the time to get to know YOU, and make sure they want you. The application is reflective of this as is the interview. Just be true to who you are and you will get in.

Good luck everyone! :)

thanks Mochaswirl for the advice and congratulations on the acceptance!

I also submitted my admissions profile today. Last week I had admissions tell me that I had missed the deadline to apply for Waterloo and I was in such incredible shock. I told her I thought it was Feb. 10th and she said that I couldn't even access my AP form anymore since the deadline had passed. But a friend told me just yesterday that the lady was wrong and I was still okay to send it so I sent it in today. I have no idea what that was about.

Also I'm in the process of finishing up thermodynamics so I do not know if that puts me at a disadvantage since not all my required courses are completed though. I spoke with admissions yesterday and she reassured me that they do in fact look at your entire application and not just that one course you have yet to complete but she hinted that it DOES put me at a disadvantage to a certain degree. Just a heads up for those still in the process of completing pre-reqs.

Hey guys,

So i was just admitted into the UW school of pharmacy and I can safely tell you that they look more at who are as a person than they do at marks. If you have a decent cGPA around 3.3+, you have a chance of getting in.

The real thing you should focus on is the writing of the admission profile. They want to see that you can vocalize what qualifies you to get in. the best way to do this is to use experiences that demonstrate your values and appropriately answer the question given to you. Also proofread, have your friends proofread, make 4 edited drafts because mistakes are costly. Aside from that, you've all worked hard so be confident that you deserve to get in.

good luck. ask if u have any other questions
