Hi guys,

I'm new to SDN, but I've been reading the posts on here.

I noticed that most people who have received a PCHK received an interview invite 2 weeks later.

I'm a tier 3, and just recently got my PCHK letter. Is it safe to assume that if you have received a PCHK, that you are GUARANTEED an interview?

Has anyone gotten a PCHK and NOT RECEIVED an interview/PINT???

Please let me know! Thanks!

I am not sure, but I do know that interviews for transfer students are winding down.
 
I think every applicant eventually receives a PCHK. I don't think receiving a PCHK necessarily means you will be granted an interview. Although, applicants who have received interviews were notified about one to two weeks after their PCHK date.

I don't think there is a correlation between having a PCHK and receiving an interview though.

I agree, I don't think getting a PCHK necessarily means you're likely to get an interview 🙁

I was a tier 3, got my PCHK on 1/7 and am still waiting to hear anything..... 🙁🙁🙁

I'm tier 3 and got my PHCK in November. But since then, I haven't heard anything else. I guess the school is not interested in my application 🙂. But good luck to you! 🙂

KIDLOVE & SCARLETTDARKE: I was reading the UOP thread from last year, and tier 3ers still got interview invites around march 8th and 15th!! So, there's still hope left!

I was wrong about the Pell Grant, it's only for people who don't have a bachelor's degree or not in grad school. I think some people who are doing the early admittance get it in pharm school since it's their 3 or 4th year and they don't have a degree.
 
did anyone else get a post-interview letter stating that your application file was "strong enough to be considered for acceptance or wait list" but they cannot, however, offer you admission at this time? i wish they wouldnt beat around the bush so much.. i figure the best of the best are going to avoid settling down in stockton and choose san fran, san diego, or LA anyway.. still there should be room for me in april right?

I don't think people are on the waitlist yet, so you still have a chance. When I went to the UOP open house before, they said that some years they don't take anybody off the waitlist. I even remember meeting someone that was top 10 on the waiting list the year before and was disappointed in not getting in. I think you get a letter in April letting you know if you got in or on the waitlist.

UOP is actually the first choice for many because its the only 3 year program in California. Pharmacy is a small world, everyone knows everyone else through somebody in the 6th degree. I'll be bold enough to say that what school you come out of matters very little for moving up or salary. Even if you graduate from that new school in Sacramento, Cal North State, all any employer cares about is if you have your license, not what school you graduated from, not what rank you were in your class, especially retail pharmacy. UOP made a smart choice in switching to a 3 year program, it attracts many top students that would of probably went to other schools if all things were equal. Remember that 1 year is about 120K difference.

I agree with you Moolman. I have heard of some people choosing USC over UOP when they got accepted to both places. I am from So Cal and although it would be great to go to SC, which has everything and more that i'm used to, the 3yr program cannot be overlooked. It would be more economical and faster. I think UOP has a good rep also. I really want to understand why those people chose SC over UOP. Is USC considered a really good school?
 
Does anyone know how many people are accepted at the end of the review cycle alone? Not in total after all of the 'strong candidates' that have already been accepted right after their interviews... just right in the end... I know they supposedly accept a lot of their students in march, but it seems there are a lot of people that have already been accepted.

I'm getting anxious :scared: as I am sure everyone who didn't get accepted is...

i do agree that UOP is a great school, has an excellent reputation, and its 3yr program definitely attracts many applicants. in my opinion, i would choose uop over usc hands-down, and i have a friend that has done that already. given that they are both equal in tuition, uop's 3yr tops usc 4yr. the only down-side to uop is the location...while i am extremely excited and fortunate to start school at uop in the fall, i do not look forward to moving to stockton for the next 2 yrs...(hopefully 3rd yr rotations will send me to hawaii or sd or sb 🙂
anybody else have concerns or comments about living in stockton, whether it be safety or lack of city-life or the fact that its an hr away from civilization?

I actually like Stockton. 😀 The population is getting close to 300k.

If you're into sports, UOP has a great basketball and baseball team. Stockton is also home to a double-A baseball team and a semi-pro hockey team. The delta is a lot of fun if you know anyone with a boat or jet skis. Lake Tahoe is only 2 hours away, which has a great nightlife, cool casinos, awesome snowboarding/skiing terrain, awesome mountain bike trails, and a gorgeous lake. The sierras are not far away at all if you're into biking or hiking. Yosemite isn't very far away. The Bay Area isn't very far away either. You can catch BART in Pleasanton and ride into town to catch an A's game or shop in downtown San Francisco. Stockton is known for great wineries and wine-tasting. Six Flags in Vallejo isn't very far. The state capital is only 35 minutes away and Sacramento has a pretty cool downtown area. You are within driving distance from a lot of neat places and attractions.

Plus, the cost of living is more reasonable. 😀

Tahoe is more like 3-4 hours away lol.

When you get into pharm school, I think having fun is the least of your worries. UOP has a hard curriculum. I interview in March!
 
People choose USC over UOP because USC is a great school too, the location of being in Los Angeles doesn't hurt either. The best schools obviously are UCSF, USC and UOP, in terms of reputation, it probably goes in that order. UCSD is a new school, it doesn't have the rep yet. Like I said before though, school matters not that much for pharmacy school. It's not like Law school where you have to come from a top school to get the best jobs, your chances are more dependent on your interview skills more. Sure, school might play a small role, I'm not being ignorant but it's seriously so little that I would gladly go to any pharmacy school in California and not be worried about getting a job.

I'm from Los Angeles and graduated from school there but I chose UOP because of the school community. I turned down all my interviews once I found out I got into UOP.

Stockton is not too bad even for us folks coming from Los Angeles. I figure if it has a Best Buy, Costco, Chipotle, and an In&Out, it's a big city to me. :laugh: And if you really crave the big city, SF, SJ and Sac are not very far away. They also did really fix up the downtown area with new restuarants and movie theatres.

Does anyone know what are the chances of getting in for someone who had an interview and received one of these "strong application, no acceptance, but wait until March" letters?😕
And does it matter what tier you were in?

I got one of these too. I think they probably accept the majority of students by selecting them after each interview. Then they review all the students who didn't immediately get accepted again at the very end of the process and maybe hand out a handful of acceptances from these not-as-qualified-applicants. Then they put everyone else on the waitlist and tell them that they are "towards the top 1/3"

I guess you can tell who applied last year...

I guess I'm one of those people. I got to accepted to UOP first, then USC two weeks later, and it wasn't an easy decision to make. Both schools are great and UOP definitely would be cheaper and faster. I really liked the school and it makes sense economically.

I'm from so cal, and plan to live and work here when I'm done. I truly believe in networking and USC is big on that. Sure, right now it might not be that important where you graduate from, but with over 50% of the pharmacists in so cal being from USC, it might make a difference when you're applying to a specialized position. The job market could drastically change in 5/10/20 years... and who you know could mean a world of difference.

So just out of curiousity, what type of specialty positions are you looking into?

i've been interested in infectious disease, but who knows what that'll change to in the next 4 years. 😛
 
Hmmm .. if you interviewed on Jan 25th and STILL haven't heard back.. should you basically assume you haven't been accepted >_>
 
Wow I just realized you guys that did say you got accepted via email, got accepted like a week ago too haha .. wow that definitly can't be a good sign for moi :X

Are you sure 50% in SoCal are from USC? I don't know where you got that figure but I would be willing to bet that it's wrong. I've been to a couple of pharmacies in SoCal and from my little sample, I would say that there is a diversity of schools represented in SoCal. Also, it seemed to me that a majority of the pharmacists I met in SoCal were from out of state schools. SoCal is a very popular place to live, USC cannot graduate enough pharmacists to fufill the need. From what I've seen I would say 40-50% are out of state school people. I personally know about 20 people that couldn't get into a California school and went out of state and plan on coming back to work in SoCal. USC graduates 200 people a year. There's at least that same amount of SoCal people even more that go out of state and come back after graduation to work in SoCal. Throw in all the other schools in Cali and it's impossible for USC grads to be 50% of the pharmacists in SoCal.

I guess I get to have the best of both worlds then for networking but I don't put much stock in it.

I got that figure from their website and USC kept mentioning it at their information sessions and interviews. "Founded in 1905, the USC School of Pharmacy is the first and foremost pharmacy school in Southern California. Approximately 50 percent of the pharmacists in the region are graduates of USC." http://www.usc.edu/schools/pharmacy/about/

I guess it makes sense since they've been around since 1905. That's over a 100 years of graduates, whereas most schools in CA (Western, LLU, Touro, UCSD) have been around for ~10 years or less.

there must be a true shortage of pharmacist in souther cal and old pharmacist ..lol
 
I was there for the 2/1/08 interviews and they said to call after 3-4 weeks if we hadn't heard anything (that's about the beginning of March, I guess).

I'm living off B complex and wine to keep my nerves in check. Still have Western (next weekend) and Touro (early April) interviews coming up.

Hey there,

I called UOP a few days ago, and a pharmacy counselor said they are still interviewing transfer students in late March. I asked if they have sent interview invites yet for March and the counselor said "some have been sent, but not all yet."

Have you received a PCHK (pharmacy checklist) yet??? Usually, after 2 weeks of receipt of the PCHK, potential candidates will receive interview invites through snail mail.

I'm a tier 3 also and have not heard anything besides my PCHK earlier this month. Good luck!!
 
Sorry, I am kinda lost. The PCHK is the pharmacy checklist? what is the letter like? is it the one with evaluation of checklist result? Thanks....

Yes the PCHK is the letter that says, EVALUATION OF CHECKLIST RESULTS. If you go on UOP's website - http://www.pacific.edu/admission/pharmd/checklistp/default.asp
just type in your ID# they gave you at the bottom of their snail mail letters, and you should see the dates of your completed documents.
 
I'm tier 3 and applied on the last day. They offered me an interview on March 14. I wonder if this is the last interview date.
 
shucks, i also applied on the last day and no interview yet. i sent in my PCHK already. maybe im not a strong candidate. ah, if march 14 is the last interview date then im rapidly losing hope...

But I think that there are only two interview dates left for transfer students. There are a few more interview dates left after that, but they are designated for UOP pre-pharm students.

BTW, I have a friend who interviewed in January and she was accepted. I also have a friend who interviewed earlier this month, and his application was put on hold. I wish I knew how many transfer spots they have left!

Do you think calling them would maybe give you an Idea on how many slots they have left and maybe give you some insight on your status..I think you should call Veronica.

How does UOP contact you for an interview? The last mail I got from them was stating that my application is being reviewed and that was early last month. This is not a good sign is it? Thanks ahead.
 
They send you a letter with an interview invitation and then you call them and schedule your interview date. Other than that, I don't know much about how it works, but don't worry 🙂 Call if anything.
 
does anyone know anything about being on "hold" ?? I got a letter back in Oct saying that my application was on hold. I called them back asking what they meant by that, they said, "On hold means, you're not good enough for an interview, so we'll review again in January." harsh...

wow, that is really blunt. basically, that means that you are being considered for an interview but they needed to look at all of the applications after yours because you applied earlier. so just wait. as soon as they are doing reviewing tier 3 for interviews, they will review your application again.

has uop sent out rejection letters directly to people who haven't been interviewed yet?
 
I interviewed on 2/1/08 and have not heard anything yet. At the interview they said to give them 3-4 weeks. With no word from UOP and an interview with Western this Saturday, I'm pretty stressed (especially, with this being my second year of applications).
[PharmDeez, try a glass of wine at night and some B complex in the morning, I find it helps relieve the stress of waiting]
