Figured I'd put this offer out there now that invites are going out.

My roommate and I are willing to have people stay with us instead of looking for hotels if you have a bit of a travel. We have a super comfy couch that you are more than welcome to sleep on as long as you don't mind sharing a room with a rabbit and a guinea pig as they're both upstairs in the living room. Also, there is a good chance you could probably end up having my bed (as long as we don't have a test the next day) since I can go and sleep at my bf's if the couch is really an issue.

If you're at all interested, just send me a PM.
Good luck guys!

I have never heard of a school that didn't require them. Always check to be sure of course.

apparently ohio state does not need fall transcripts... just found this out today.

and wasn't there some school that doesn't require official transcripts until you are selected for an interview? weirdness there, that is.

Think that is CSU. They ask for them once you've been accepted or for interviewing IS (they interview IS , right?)

Orca, you're too kind! Now that I know where I can stay, I'm just missing that interview invite... 😛

Guys, UPenn just sent out their first interview invites.

I'm dying.

Cornell doesn't require fall transcripts either.

I can't exactly offer such a nice deal (since I live 35 miles from campus, and that involves SEPTA, etc, but heck, if you get desperate, I do have a spare bed in an ancient house!)...but seriously, if someone is in need of getting to/from a place around Philly let me know and I can probably help out! I work right next to 30th street station and can slip away from work fairly easy (no one really keeps track of us poor post-docs :ninja:)

Guys, UPenn just sent out their first interview invites.

I'm dying.

I was totally okay with the 'you'll know sometime between December and April' thing, but then there were invites going up on the interview thread and I just want to know. I really am expected to get rejected...but I still have some sort of hope that I won't be. Really not liking the waiting atm...:scared:

CSU does not interview anyone. But they do ask for transcripts once you've been accepted.

Any combined degree applicants out there? I applied for VMSTP after speaking with Dr. Atchinson since I figured I had nothing to lose, but I am expecting my rejection any day now since Yong No said mid-December...

Hi wildowl! I also applied to the VMSTP. I am also anxiously awaiting results! Does anyone know how this process relates to the regular interview process? ie. are you considered for a VMSTP interview before a regular interview or vice versa? The fact that the program has only accepted 2 applicants each of the past 2 years makes it even more scary!

Hey cturtle! From what I recall from my conversation with Dr. Atchinson, you get considered in the VMSTP pool and if you don't make the short list they will give you to regular admissions? Correct me if I'm wrong, anybody!!

I'm pretty sure that's correct. I actually submitted the VMSTP app but decided last minute that the dual program wasn't for me, so I'm only being considered by the vet school now.

Thanks for the info guys! It makes me feel a little better about not having received an invite yet!

I also applied VMSTP but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm so anxious.

It's nice to know I'm not alone! Still feeling so anxious but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us all. I was thinking maybe some kind of notice by the end of the week..

I feel the exact same way. I'm trying not to stress out too much about it... but at the same time Penn is the school I'm banking on getting into the most because its my IS. Is penn your IS? From looking at their admissions page, my stats are about average so I'm trying to hope for the best. :/

If I have to wait until March I am going to develop an ulcer. My stats are fine as well, but I just feel like with 1500 ppl applying, rejection is most likely coming my way, I just want to know!!!! I haven't heard from anywhere else yet either. Penn isn't my IS, so I guess I won't develop ulcers until I am rejected by Cornell in January. Then the ulcers will come!

Another VMSTP applicant here. Dr. Atchinson contacted me on Tuesday saying they were considering my application but had a few questions for me. If we assume there are ~40 applications (based on past numbers) then I think we'll probably hear end of this week or early next week. I'd guess tomorrow maybe, since places like to hand out decisions on Fridays.

I really hope they accept more than 2 applicants this year... There have to be more than just 2 really good people in each applicant pool, it'd be so sad if some got excluded because of too few spots/bad luck.

Question for the VMSTP kids, what are your research/GPA/GRE stats? (if that's not too personal to ask) I'm really curious what the normal VMSTP applicant pool looks like.

I believe you need to change your username from vethopeful to vetnotsohopeful:laugh:

Give it a chance. It is early yet to go the depression route.

If you look at the old VMSTP newsletters, you can at least see a description of the current students' past research experiences. It's really tough to predict what the "average" applicant looks like. I know several people who applied for the program with 4+ years of research experience, but were not offered an interview for the program. From what I've heard, they seem more apt to accept applicants who have taken time off after college to pursue research (which is what I'm currently doing).

I'm getting so nervous waiting to hear back!!!

That's what I'm doing, too. That makes me feel a bit better. What kind of research are you doing? Are you doing it as work or for a degree?

I'm working as a post-bacc fellow doing basic science research in a microbiology/biochemistry lab. It's for work, but it's a training program designed for students entering grad/med school. I think I might be the only pre-vet in the program! 😀

Nah, Penn's not my IS and it's actually the school I think I'm least likely to get into. I did a summer program there and loved it, though, which is why I'm actually bothering to apply anyway. I've sort of got just enough hope that I might get an interview that I run and check my email every time someone posts a new Penn invite in the interview thread...or a new rejection. :meanie:

I just now received a letter from Penn... acknowledging that my application is complete and they will send out interview invites at least 2 weeks prior to the interview date.

I almost just died since some people are receiving their actual interview invites right now. I couldn't breathe for a minute there...

Yeah I know, that is an insane amount of people! lol I was in shock when I first heard how many applicants there were. Hang in there though! I actually just got an interview invite from Iowa State today, and I thought they were already supposed to be done with invites! :soexcited: There is still plenty of time in the interview process, so for now I'm just happy I don't have a rejection letter yet. lol Best of luck to you btw!

I got an interview! I'm OOS from new jersey.

What did you put as your focus? And did you get an invite in the mail or email!? So anxious!

It was via email. The email only gives you one date option and says that the interview cannot be rescheduled (luckily the date fit in my schedule). I got the email 12/11 for an 1/4 interview.

I can't remember exactly what categories UPenn had, but I am interested in small animal w/exotics.

Congrats! Hoping they didn't send all the invites out today..? :xf:

Penn has a very slow process that takes from December - April. You could still be waiting for 3 months to receive an interview offer or hear anything at all. Last year I was rejected, but didn't get it until late March. Don't give up hope!

Hey,

This is my first post! Long time lurker but finally joined. I have found this forum very helpful, especially when applying for this cycle. Penn is definitely my top choice, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to everyone and congrats to those already accepted! 😀

i was looking at the rejection thread just now...saw that penn sent out some rejections 2 weeks ago 12/4 and 12/5. makes me happy that i haven't heard from them yet. keeping my fingers crossed!!

Probably not; I mean, they have to tell people either way sooner rather than later for VMSTP because I think they only do one interview day for VMSTP applicants. So if you haven't heard anything yet, it probably means they aren't done!

Does anyone know if Penn gives us any information on who our interviewers will be?

well, that figures...thanks for the info!

At the beginning of the day they kind of annoyingly give you brief bios of your interviewers....which just gives you something to obsess about, as if remembering those few facts is actually going to make a difference (kind of like vet school in general in a way).

VMSTP interview! 😀

Me too! Got the phone call yesterday during my Ohio State interview! So excited! I guess I'll meet you there!! :luck: for everyone else waiting to hear from VMSTP

I applied (3 years ago now 😱) with a Masters degree and several publications and didn't get offered an interview, but I had a very weak GPA. I assumed that was my downfall (and being a CA resident 😉) and went on my way.

Hey YAY! I guess I will see you there, then! Are you travelling far for the interview? I live just over the border in DE and will be taking the train in, so you could probably stay with me if you need a place to sleep.

And I guess you were right, they do like students who took a year off to do research 😛

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear!

I'm in DC, and will take the train up, and I think they are actually putting us up in a hotel! But thank you for the offer, that's very nice of you!
