Hello SDN Community,
I'm a recent graduate (Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, Biomed Sciences concentration, awarded Jan 2023) looking for urgent advice on post-bacc programs to prepare for medical school applications. My goal is to get into an accelerated program that will allow me to apply to DO schools as soon as possible, ideally for the 2026 application cycle (matriculating Fall 2027). I am also considering SGU as I have gotten accepted.
My Situation:
I'm a recent graduate (Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, Biomed Sciences concentration, awarded Jan 2023) looking for urgent advice on post-bacc programs to prepare for medical school applications. My goal is to get into an accelerated program that will allow me to apply to DO schools as soon as possible, ideally for the 2026 application cycle (matriculating Fall 2027). I am also considering SGU as I have gotten accepted.
My Situation:
- Undergraduate GPA: My overall GPA is 3.04 (according to my transcript, though the institutional GPA calculation may exclude some repeats).
- Calculated Science GPA (BCPM): I've calculated my BCPM GPA to be approximately 3.12. This includes all standard Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math courses, as well as Biomedical Science, Biological Anthropology, Astronomy, and Geology courses.
- Areas of Concern: My earlier science/math grades (C's and D's in CHEM I, BIOL I, MATH) are weighing down my sGPA. I have an upward trend in later science/biomedical courses (mostly B's and A's in upper-level BMSC courses, BIOL II, etc.). I also have an F in Precalculus.
- Prerequisites: I need to complete core medical school prerequisites, as my transcript shows a mix of foundational and upper-level science but not a clear, complete set of standard pre-med requirements (e.g., I have CHEM I and II, BIOL I and II, but need to ensure full coverage of Physics and possibly upper-level biology courses if not already taken as part of my BMSC concentration).
- Current Status: I am not currently enrolled in any courses.
- I took the mcat a few weeks ago after 1 year of studying. Still waiting on the score.
- No Post-Bacc Prerequisites: I need a formal post-bacc program that does not require me to have completed specific science prerequisites before I enroll in the post-bacc itself. I need the program to provide these foundational science courses.
- Prerequisite Completion: The program must allow me to complete all standard medical school prerequisites (General Biology with labs, General Chemistry with labs, Organic Chemistry with labs, Physics with labs, Biochemistry, etc.) effectively.
- Application Timeline: I am looking for programs that are still accepting applications for Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 starts. Many programs I've researched, like Agnes Scott, are already closed.
- Strong Advising/Support: Given my sGPA, I will need robust advising, MCAT preparation support, and potentially a committee letter.
- Focus: My primary aim is DO school admission.
- Are there any highly recommended formal post-bacc programs that fit these criteria (no internal prerequisites, provide all pre-med courses, still open for Fall 2025/Spring 2026)?
- Given my 3.12 sGPA with an upward trend, how critical is it to achieve a very high GPA (e.g., 3.8+) in a post-bacc to be competitive for DO schools?
- Are there any programs known for accepting students with lower initial GPAs but a strong commitment to improvement?
- Any advice on how to quickly identify programs with open applications at this late stage?
