My school is also having record low movement of waitlist. I'm willing to bet that it has to do with the fact that applications are up this year. Also, I think SDN is a good cross-ection of Pre-meds as a whole, so there would be no sampling bias. Also, there are more posters this year on SDN than last year, so if anything the numbers last year are underreported compared to this year.

Awwww...say it ain't so Jalby. Maybe they'll have a record setting July too of the highest number to be pulled off the waitlist in one month! 😀

anybody talked to the office of admissions recently? I've run out of good excuses to call them. heh heh

Has anyone tried calling USC to find out where you are on the waitlist? I know that Davis lets you know whether your in the top third - middle - or bottom third of the waitlist so has anyone tried finding out from USC?

to answer your previous question...i've decided to go to UCI. USC's fin aid was a bit scary for me.

Thanks byrodini. I interviewed back in february (the 17th maybe?). Actually when I first got the invite the web calendar said the earliest date available was April 2nd. Thought that was way too late so I called up and asked if I could sneak in earlier and they hooked me up right away.

Remember July is when a lot of the movement happens...especially this year!!

So keep calling the office....sending Dr. Quinn those emails...and writing those letters of intent!

another week of non-existent waitlist movement at USC 🙁 🙁. on the bright side though, the ucla waitlist thread shows 4 ppl got offers just during the end of last week. if school's like ucla keep moving like this that should undoubtedly lead to show movement at keck.

how many emails and LOI's did you send in? i ask because i get the distinct impression that quinn and co. is on the verge of irritation with all my updates etc. i haven't sent in anything for a little over 3 weeks now.

I'm not actually the one to ask about letters of intent. I only sent one true letter of intent along with quite a few emails and phone calls. Camstah is the master of the LOI though.
LOI's should be fine as long as they add something new to your app or reiterate some point you think may have been missed in their initial review or address just how incredibly much you want to go to USC!

I'm glad Dr. Quinn called me because I had almost resorted to writing a top ten list (a la David Letterman) of reasons I would be a perfect match for USC! Don't know how well that would have gone over. 😀

Just remember that last year there was movement even up to the first day of classes!

One question that I'm just realizing and is probably a bit late. Does it matter whether a LOI is sent by email or does it have to be by postal mail to be considered a real LOI (possibly for a signature?). Thanks!

i don't think it really matters actually...at least once the waitlist has been set up...before that, maybe a letter and email would be good, because i don't know if the committee reads them or not...after the waitlist is set though, I have a feeling that the committee no longer meets to discuss applicants, and so it wouldn't really matter....an email would get read by Dr. Quinn...and i think they print out the emails anyway, so, yeah.....either way.....i think content is more important than method.....

i agree with camstah. although initially the waitlist might have been unranked as they said it was, at this point it seems that it is ranked, because i managed to get it out of them where i was on the list...... approx. not exact or anything. i also am pretty sure that they aren't reading anything anymore. unless you get lucky and get an email directly to quinn that is. that might actually help i guess.

All they told me was that there are still about 100 people on the waitlist and that they accept people all the way up to the first day of classes, which is aug 9th

we have officially only 17 more days to find out now. this thread is getting really depressing. camstah, i have a feeling i'll be in the same position as u were last year at about this time........

today the admissions office told me they have only taken about 10 ppl off the waitlist this year and given them offers. given that there's only about 2 weeks left, and typically they pull between 25-30 ppl, that's a huge drop. as usual they wouldn't say how many more they think they'll be pulling, but obviously it's gonna be way way less than other years. she said maybe a couple more btwn now and august 7, maybe not
