Hello everyone!

With 2016 around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to start this thread and continue the 2015 thread into the new year!

Similar threads from the past have been extremely helpful to me (and I'm sure) and many others.

Good luck to everyone taking Step 2 CK in 2016!

Sat the true beast today. Blocks were 6x44, 1x42, 1x36.

Dazed confused and worried. Did uworld twice only. Step 1 258. Score drop alert +pissed+

damn; regardless, congrats on being done. please do write some advice about your experience once you rest up.

I took mine on June 13th. I got my score today before the website crashed. I checked for my score exactly at 11:00am. Prior to checking the website, I did not receive any emails stating that my score was available. However, my permit link did disappear and the "Order Score Recheck" option appeared a few days before today.

Hey!
I've never posted on here, but I since there seems to be very few average students who post on here I thought I would let you all know my experience. I have been a pretty average American medical student through all of med school who was right at the national average on Step 1. Because of a lot of extenuating circumstances I became very nervous about step 2 and then felt like I was steam rolled after I took the test. I spent 4 weeks thinking I had failed it. Below are my scores on practice tests and the real test. Hope this helps others who felt like me!

NBME 4 (4 weeks before original test date): 198
NBME 6 (2 weeks before original date): 204, I panicked and pushed the test back two weeks
UWSA (2 weeks before new test date): 242
NBME 7 (1 week before new test date): 221, worried me but the education specialist at my school said I should still take the test
Actual Step 2 score: 238

Hope this helps/encourages some people as I really struggled with the wait for my score! Best of luck!

Congratulations on your great score.
What was your Uworld Qbank score? if you dont mind sharing

Took on 6/14.

Had 42 first, 20 questions last block. all 44 in between. Typical FML feeling walking out/Couldn't even look up the right answer if I wanted to.

Step 1: 250
Step 2: 249 (YIKES! HOW AM I GOING TO EXPLAIN THIS TO RESIDENCY DIRECTORS!?!?!! 😉)

first pass on Uworld 70%
Second pass did a 1/3 of the questions and got around 93%
Free 131 (or whatever you want to call it) - 90% written form (stupid Mac)
UWSA (about 3 weeks from the test) - 244 (I did god awful on the first block 57%, but then did well on the other 3, so not entirely sure how accurate)

Should've studied more throughout the year, but good enough? DIT (along with SUTS2) helped me get down the basics; Uworld filled in the rest.

Time for some scotch and Pokemon Go.

Awesome job! Could you tell us your study strategy/materials used? Thanks!
I used onlinemed ed as content reveiw and then went through World. I actually only went through most of world once because I didn't want to pay for it for longer, though I did redo missed questions in subjects I struggled in.

I actually laughed when I read my score because I found it so ridiculous how high it was after the way I felt coming out of the test. When I left the test center I seriously felt like there was a good chance that I would be in the low 200s. Very happily surprised today and still not sure how it happened but Im definitely not going to question it lol.

Step 1: 250-260

Uworld 1st pass: 81% (done throughout 3rd year rotations)
Uworld 2nd pass: 91%
UWSA (2 weeks out): 264
NBME 6: 252 (1 week out, rushed through it)
NBME 7: 258(3 days out)
NBME 4: 260 (2 days out)

Actual step 2 score: 265+

If you go back and read my old post the day after my exam, I was freaking out. I felt like I guessed on most of the exam and I marked >20 questions each block. I didn't run out of time on any section but I didn't have time to review all my marked questions so I would just skim most of them real quick before the block ended. As you can see my actual score was higher than all my practice assessments so luck must have really been on my side that day. Also my score report shows that while most of my categories were in the higher performance side none of them had stars, most don't even reach the end of the page.

I'm super happy with my score. Hopefully if anyone else is freaking out as bad as I was this will provide some encouragement.

By the way my study materials were MTB for step 3 the entire book except the IM part and MTB for step 2 for IM and Uworld. I didnt use uptodate except for when i needed it in my rotations and I don't suggest using it as a resource at all except to help u during rotations.

Also I made anki cards for the material I studied from MTB and Uworld, its on reddit somewhere under the same username if u look it up and want to use it.

Cheers

Congratulations. Would you mind sharing your your performance on shelf exams (and resources used)?

Great score. Go celebrate before responding 🙂

All my shelves were in the >90 percentile except for Peds and FM, which i got 75th and 83rd percentile respectively.

Only MTB and Uworld same materials i used for actual step

Would you happen to recall the actual scaled scores (at least for IM)? If not, it's okay 🙂 Thank you for this.

Hey Gregoryhouse;
I looked around for your anki cards ....could you please post a link here somewhere ,it will be really helpful!
Thank you so much!

Hey guys
I got my step 2 ck score yesterday did my exam 14 june , as gerogeryhouse, i went out of the exam freaking out , i made some silly mistakes , i wasnt not sure of many answers , i marked 5 at least in each block , i couldnt review my marked questions , and from those i reviewed i changed my answer to wrong ones most of the time
Question in the exam are vague but again i think when u figure it out u realize how simple they are , so my advice to any one doing the exam is to keep it simple , act indiffrent while reading and answering the question the first answer that come to your mind click it and go to next question , improve your mental stamina before the exam do at least 4-5 blocks daily in ur last week of preperation
Im an IMG , step 1 score 266
my step 2 CK score 276
Thanks god
i made it

I just realized I changed my username on here a while back so its not the same. On reddit its def_1

MS3 who just got their Step score back. Nothing killer, but a solid 246. Now, I'd like to do even better on Step 2 (ideally 260+) and want to make sure I do things the right way. Any tips outside of just doing well on my shelf exams? Thanks everyone.

emphasize learning rather than test scores...What you see in the floor would immensely help you on your test...

Do UWorld throughout the year once; it will make your 2-4wk Step 2 studying period immensely easier/shorter. Also, depending on which specialty you choose, you might not need a high and/or earlier Step 2 result.

Took this recently.

The change in the number of questions per block was already enacted at my testing center. The test was 7 blocks of 40 and 1 of 38. The questions did not seem at all harder or longer, the extra time made the test time-management a little more comfortable. Only one abstract, no drug ads, and several multimedia.

Overall it felt very comparable to UWorld. There were a few off-the-wall questions, but plenty of bread and butter. I had several ethics questions that were incredibly difficult and did not seem to have any clear answer choice. I felt like the test was fair overall, but I made several simple mistakes that left me incredibly frustrated after the test. I'm trying not to dwell on the questions that I know I got wrong.

I felt like UWorld and Online MedEd provided the most utility during my studies. MTB2 seemed to have too many low-yield drugs, lack of treatment algorithms, and sparse Peds, Psych, Surg, and OBGYN sections. Some questions came from a Step 1 knowledge base outside of UWorld’s Step 2 Qbank scope. I used 1/2 of Kaplan’s Qbank, but found more than a couple errors from out of date guidelines (many from ~2012). Overall, I would suggest studying hard for each rotation, generous use of UWorld during and after rotations, and supplementing weak areas with OME or a trusted resource.

Now time for the long wait till September 14th.

i saw a couple of 270+ score reports in ck..none of the had a single high performance *...i am unsure as to how to interpret this...

Hey guys,

Just wanted to post my step 2ck experience bc I walked out of the exam feeling like I bombed it. Like literally thought I failed (i.e., <190). As soon as I left my test, I called my mommy and cried her a river. Called my friends, but I didn't have any except for you guys.

Step 1: 289
Shelf Exam: All above 90th percentile
Average UW first pass: 96%
NBME 4 (4 weeks out): 270
NBME 7 (3 weeks out): 280
By this point I decided I didn't need to study anymore so I took it 3 weeks earlier than scheduled
Actual Step 2CK score: 300

I know 300 isn't that great but I'm hoping my experience can help allay some fears for you guys. Hopefully I can get into a residency with this score. Does anyone know if the NBME allows retakes?

Is it true is you passed the exam, your permit link disappears a few days before Wed, and if it doesn't...that means you failed?

I took my exam on 30th June but my permit link's still there. Does that mean I'll get my score next week instead of tomorrow or is there no way of knowing?

Is it appropriate to assume that most these averages seen on uworld are because people tend to do uworld multiple times relative to step 1?

@gregoryhouse @cabergoline2 & others, I had a question. The first time I went through UW my average was around the high 60s to low 70s. I'm going through it again and I only went up to a 75%. Now I'm slowly trickling down back to the 70s. What did you guys do or recommend where my average the second time around could be >90%. I feel that most people that did it the second time around jumped on their percentage atleast by 15 points or so, but not me.

try learning the material well. make sure to learn the content of the questions you get wrong so that you can get the remaining questions with similar topics right. that's how your percentage will go up.
