I talked with the financial aid office last Friday so maybe I can help you out.
1) I'm not sure, but the financial aid lady I spoke with told me that, by chance, I was one of the first applications processed and my award wasn't mailed to me until June 21. I'd call and ask.
2) Well, I would go into the financial aid office first and sign all the forms you need to (Master Promissary Notes and Truth in Lending statements for any loans awards by the school). You will have to find a lender for your subsidized/unsubsidized Stafford loans. The lender might be a bank, credit union, or a loan service. You then need to sign up for an installment plan - this determines whether you will be billed once, twice, or quarterly throughout the year. You can do this at the Bursar's office. They suggested the two payment plan (with 4 payments you might forget one). After everything is set up (don't forget to go to the loan-by-web website on the UTH financial aid website and notify the school of your lender), your finan aid check will be given to you - most likely 7-10 days before school starts. Tuition for the two installment plan will be due on Aug 12 and Jan 2. Like tution, your financial aid check will be split in two. When you're awarded your package, the dispersement schedule with $$ amounts will be listed.
3) The scholarship should be available for pick-up from the financial aid office (22nd floor in UTC building - it's the really tall one on Fannin) on the first day of class. The scholarship should show up on UT Link (under financial aid tab) once your award has been determined.
4) As Seabass pointed out earlier, you can charge your tuition by credit card before you receive your finan aid. I have a Citi Dividend Platinum MasterCard which gives back %1 on ALL purchases, with a max refund of $300. I just called to increase my credit line and so by charging my Fall tuition, I should get over $50 back. Free Money!!!!woohoo. That's about the best card out there. I know of other cards that say they give %1 back, but it's actually a pro-rated system in which they first give you %0.5 back. When you reach certain amount, say like $15000, THEN they'll give %1 back.
In order to make sure your tuition gets paid by credit card before your financial aid check automatically pays for your tuition, the financial aid office suggested that you pay (by credit card) before Aug1.
Let me know if I said something incorrect. Didn't mean to post so long, maybe I should stop being so glib (like Matt Lauer
).
