Are you doing anything to prepare for these interviews? I have a call in to Miss Cleo, but I'm sure there are some other things I could do.

I would appreciate a typed report on the appearance and personal information of mementoxi upon your return. It should be easy to figure out who he is, how many BME's from UTK could there be? Since he knows who I am its important I figure out who he is.

Hey guys. I'm still waiting to hear from UT. They absolutely have to tell me if I got in by April 1st. I'm so sick of waiting.

superior city...heh. You know, it occurs to me that Memphis and Ktown have something in common- large, metallic, geometric shapes in their downtown sky lines. You have a golf-ball thing and we have a pyramid...both equally useful.

The drink sounds good. I'm going to have to track down menemotxi, not just for you, for all of us.
 
I interviewed in early Feb and then I received a letter 2 weeks later saying that they had not made a decision on my application and that they would notify of my status in writing before April 1st. Thanks for waiting til the last minute UT. I'M DYING HERE!!

I'm in Knoxville at UT by the way.
 
at least you got something in two weeks that mark past for me yesterday I still haven't heard squat

That blows....not really a waitlist...not really a rejection. Sorry man.

I thought I had it bad just waiting 2 weeks. I'm so watching my mailbox everyday. I'll do the same tomorrow...and maybe the next day. Common big envelope!
 
Oh and TN aaron.....UT took 9 months to send me my secondary and interview invite. I had my AMCAS in by the middle of June. Now thats waiting a while.

BTW its great to see so many UTK people here.

No news for me yet. 🙁 It's been over a month since my interview and I haven't even received a note saying they are undecided. Do you guys think I should call and find out what's up? Or better to wait til Apri 1? I don't want to sound too desperate.

Thats cause we are all stakedout with camping gear, beer, soda (for those that don't drink beer), grill, hot dogs, burgers, mini UT go big orange flag, and whatever religious icon you need in front of our mailboxes. 🙂

much like a tailgate but with more stress than a UT-Florida game.

For those of your wondering, the committee met last Friday and Dianne will be mailing out letters this Friday the 26th.

Gives me a few days not to stake out at my mailbox 🙂
 
Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear... I can remember the feeling all too well. I just hope you all don't have to undergo the torture of the waitlist... ok... well I guess it is better than a straight out rejection.

But really, I know many of you that are planning on starting UT this fall are in Knoxville or Memphis, but is there anyone in Nashville? I would love to get to meet some of my future classmates before Aug. 9th. Anyway, if there are, just let me know.

I wasn't very happy with my interview, honestly. It wasn't nearly as good as my first interviews, both of those interviewers were on the committee, though, and may have spoke up for me.

Much to my suprise, they did give me one of the scholarships, and congrats are in order to you too, are they not?

I think I know who you are...surely you know who I am.

Have you decided whether you will be going to UT?

What are your stats?... I'm just curious to see what kind of people Nelson et al. were choosing for the scholarship interviews and the subsequent winners. I was more than capable of receiving a scholarship interview, but I'm neither from Tennessee nor do I have UT alum connections... hell I haven't even received a decision yet, and I interviewed in December.

I really enjoyed my visit to UT, and I know that I impressed the hell out of them, even with my candid interviews... grr state school politics.
 
Congratulations are in order. I thought my interviews were not nearly as good as my first ones as well. They threw some tough questions at me that had nothing to do with medicine. They asked my opinion on America's foreign policy, dependency on foreign oil, my favorite Shakespeare play, my definition of a well-educated person, etc. The only medical related question had to do with some strange kind of socialist medicine proposal in Oregon. Did you feel like your interviewers were out to get you? I sure did.

To top it off, my interview lasted a mere 30 minutes. I thought they hated me. Everyone else was in there for the full 45 minutes and some went over. I haven't decided where I'm going yet, waiting for Emory to show me the $$$.

Again I extend the most august congratulations to you. :meanie: :horns: 👍
 
I think we had the same interviewers...I was asked about how I would become involved in politics, what I thought constituted a well educated person, and quite a few things about my undergraduate degrees, etc. So, will you be coming to UT if Emory doesn't throw up the dough?

Anyway, touche on your last line, but let me proffer you my most adamant gratitude. :meanie: 😉

Everyone's stats were excellent, I think, many merit finalists were holding acceptances at places such as Northwestern, Vanderbuilt, Emory, and Wake Forest, to name a few.

They were looking for experience and character more than anything, though. I thought everybody I met was extremely likable, and most had a unique or very interesting background.
 
I'd have to agree with Asclepius. Many people had great stats, but there was a least one with a sub-30 MCAT. Everyone I talked to had something very unique about them. At least two I talked to were waiting on Hopkins and Yale for financial aid packages.

Nearly everyone was extremely likable, one was a Division 1 athlete, another volunteers on a cave rescue team, one was a Rhodes finalist, etc.

I may be a Tennessean, but I have no alumni connections. I'm not sure how they pick folks, but I wouldn't blame state politics. They are very tough on out-of-staters because they are required to take 90% of the class from in state. There were several out-of-staters there interviewing for the scholarship however.
 
Out-of-state addresses were given for a few of the scholarship finalists, but I'm pretty sure that most of them had residence in TN and gave school addresses.

yeah...one of the guys grew up in a missionary village in Kenya.

memotxi, do you realize that everyone that interviewed with our interviewer group got the scholly?
 
My buddy Adam got one of those scholarships. He doesn't know if he is going to take it though. He has a full ride there and I still haven't heard if I'm in yet or not...

Actually, he's one of the people that I really didn't get to talk to very much. There was a little bit of a UT/Kingsport circle there at first since several of those people knew each other beforehand.

I guess he's thinking he may get some money elsewhere. I knew one guy already signed on for the Army and won a scholarship.
 
I'm still waiting for the financial aid package to roll in. My EFC is a big fat 0, so I'm hoping for something good from Emory. That CoCa Cola money should be good for something.

You definitely going to UT Asclepius? It sounded like at least three winners were still leaning towards other places.
 
Anybody who interviewed after March 1st heard anything? I heard that the ADCOM didn't meet on the 12th so people may be held up. Anyone heard any news?

yeah, menemotxi, I'm def. going to UT. I'm from Memphis, and while I'd actually like to leave, I have a house here already and my wife has a job here, so it's really easy now that I have a full ride. So, if I'm not one of the three that's leaning to go somewhere else, who is the other?

I know atleast one of the people that didn't get it wanted it pretty bad.
 
They mailed out their last acceptances/rejections today. I talked to Diane a couple of days ago so expect something in your mailbox next week.

Do you guys know if they only chose to either accept or reject applicants at this last meeting? Might some people have gotten waitlisted?
