Uvm Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for calling eena.

I can't believe it is possible that they haven't tapped into the waitlist yet! :scared:
How discouraging.

Eena, we'll both end up in AA at this rate!

Cheers to us!

So, they haven't tapped into the alternate list? you mean nobody has been pulled from the waiting list?
Is this an assumption based on the fact that there has been no movement in the list? or is this something you got from UVM admission office?

Anyhow, I agree that it is a bit discouraging.

SO, I GUESS I AM CALLING ON WEDNESDAY!

Who is calling on: please sign up
Friday (5/27)?
Monday (5/30)?

Well, this is my first post here, thought I should post the first mixed good news I've gotten. Mary said that there has been movement from people dropping off the waitlist, My spot (somewhere in the top 3rd) was not effected, but other people will be. Also, she said she was very very optimistic that people would be coming off the waitlist maybe in the next week or two, and that she said this is similar to last year.

anyway, good luck, I hope things start picking up soon, and I hope to see you next year at UVM!

i talked to mary campbell this morning and she said the same thing....things should be picking up in the next week or so. be patient guys and hopefully all you top and middle-tiered will hear something soon, while i wait for my turn (in the bottom tier 🙁 ).
anyway, ms. campbell also recognized my true identity from my postings and i thought it to be funny....hi, ms. campbell!
have not heard from eena in a while....i hope she's not taking my advise too seriously and became a chronic alcoholic! 😀
eena: got sober?

So, has there been a few people accepted from the waiting list this week? And, should we in the top tier expect an acceptance letter or a phone call?

Do you guys know if the office could let us know where we are in each tier? I read from past UVM threads students saying they were in the top of the middle tier or bottom of first tier.

Just been busy with other things this week. Don't worry, I got my drinking under control. But yesterday, I realized that drinking beer a few hours before a Yoga exercise is not such a good idea. 😀

St. Pius V, gotta drop this kind of messages. Lets get our focus back to UVM wait list. Please.

This entire process has taught me not to expect anything - especially not an acceptance letter! (lol) Let's hope for good news though. How's that? 😉

It depends on how you look at it. You are playing with words! You are playing with your mind. In this process good news means "acceptance".
It's all in our head. But, hey, if this helps us cope with the waiting and the posssible bad news, why not.

She recognized you? That's too funny... I wonder if she knows who I am. Mary, if you're reading this- hi, and thanks for always being so helpful on the phone! Now if I could only thank you in person while dropping off my signed declaration of intent to matriculate form... 😀

eena, Mary said that there was yet to be movement from the waitlist into the acceptance pile, but that there had been movement off the waitlist completely, mostly from people in the 2nd and 3rd tier. in a week or two she seemed hopeful that actual movment into acceptances would start.

So its a mixed bag,

gardez votre bâton sur la glace! (Red)

They are already taking people off of the waitlist completely--from the 2nd and third tier (meaning no chance for acceptance)? Will they let each of us know this as well (i.e., if our status changes)?

Hi guys, I've been lurking on this thread for quite some time, but this is my first post. I have a question, and apologize if it's been asked already - I looked through old posts and couldn't find my answer...

Have you guys on the waitlist already filled out the UVM financial aid forms? How does that work when you're waitlisted? I had the FAFSA sent to them when I filled it out in Jan, but that's all I've submitted. If we get off the waitlist, do we then learn fin. aid package? I've been offered a generous scholarship at Emory, but I LOVED UVM more than I can express....I was hopeful when I heard I'm in the top 1/3 but suddenly I'm terrified that I totally screwed up and should have filled out UVM fin. aid forms long ago. As much as I loved UVM, money is a huge issue for me, and I'm having nightmares that should my wishes come true and I get a UVM call, I'd have to end up declining. Of course that's all based on a huge "if"...

As a general rule, you should always fill out the financial paperwork for a school when you get waitlisted. This way, they can send you your award letter if/when they offer you a spot. This, in turn, makes it easier for you to decide what to do if you happen to have another acceptance already.

BUT, I think that UVM only requried the FAFSA. I'm not sure, because I don't remember exactly, but I don't think UVM had a separate form. And, that's because they have basically no financial aid to offer other than loans (unless you are a resident, of course).

Hope this helps! :luck:

Kc123, you sound confused (or maybe I am misinterpreting you). But if you are indeed confused: you seem to think that UVM is removing people from the bottom of the waitlist? All anyone has said here is that people are taking themselves off the waitlist. Mostly people in the bottom two tiers, which makes sense.

while we focus on our admissions, let's not get too wrapped up with who-is-not-what-when-we-get-in prototype. while it's good to focus, it's not wise to prime yourself up and encased yourself into a box with a tunnel vision. there's REALLY nothing we can do BUT WAIT. speculating and worrying about the unknowns won't help. be patient, keep yoga-ing, loosen up a bit- just wait, live a little, laugh a little....
what's the worst that can happen? 😉

Gotchya....yes, I was definitely confused.....I was reading "but that there had been movement off the waitlist completely, mostly from people in the 2nd and 3rd tier" to mean that UVM was taking ppl from the 2nd and 3rd tier off completely (which wouldn't make any sense, as you point out).....Thanks for clearing that up! Makes sense that ppl would take themselves off though....I need some sleep, I think!

can we call the financial aid office and inquire about our financial aid award even though we are in the waiting list? You know just in case we get accepted because dont we have 24 hours to make a decision (to accept of decline)? It is helpful to know the school's financial aid package before making the final decision. Someone said earlier in the thread that UVM sends the financial aid letter within a week after the acceptance letter, isn't that sort of late?

what do you guys think?

I don't think that you can call them and ask about your financial aid package because you don't have a package until you are accepted. My understanding is that they only make one for you when they decide to accept you. And, this late in the game, they send it to you along with your acceptance.

I believe that people currently have a week to decide. But, that time decreases as we get closer to August. I think that people who get off the waiting list very late or who are holding another acceptance only have a couple of days to decide. I'm not sure how accurate that info is though...

i did talked with ms. corrigan on this issue and she said to submit the financial aid application even if you're on the alt. list. the package will only be sent upon acceptances and grants are limited, very limited especially if you're an out-of-stater. when accepted, everthing's going to fall into place.
i wouldn't worry about this financial aid thing since i know plenty of people that got last minute acceptances (a few even were accepted 2 weeks after the start date) and their financial aid was ok. that's why uvm have experts like ms. corrigan (she's very sweet too) to handle this matter. if y'all have questions about financial aid, just talk to ms. corrigan- she's just a joy to speak with.

Anybody else called besides eena?

News? Can't get through myself

I called on Wednesday and left a message, but didn't heard back. Perhaps Mary is on vacation?

When is the official panic day?

Will anybody else from the waiting list pull out this month or next month?

Who is tired of waiting?

Who will be reapplying to UVM this Summer?

Hi there, guys.

Put me on the bottom third of the list. I sent them an LOI and my PI is writing me up a letter of recommendation for the places I'm waitlisted as well as for what's looking like an increasingly likely reapplication process, but it sounds here like that's not gonna do me much good.

Damn shame too. Not only have they become quite a force to be reckoned with for primary care, but Burlington seriously is awesome. I'm not giving up, though. I'm hoping my persistence will pay off.

Good luck, KhanDHV! :luck:

I haven't called UVM in a while, but it seems like there is no movement anyway. 🙁

I have set a deadline for myself. I'll withdraw from the wl on June 15th if I haven't heard back by then. It actually brings me a certain sense of relief... 🙄

I've withdrawn myself from the waitlist. I just mailed the letter on Monday so it may take a little for it to formally register with them. I realized I'd made my decision, and the only reason for waiting now would be to be able to have something to turn down, which would be rather selfish and petty. (Also, having it not formally decided made it hard to fully commit to where I am going to be next year, because I could continually second guess myself and go "But what if UVM called today, would I really stick with that decision?")

I feel much calmer now having made up my mind. (And though my ever-patient, ever non-pressuring man didn't want to admit to it initially, for fear of it being a sort of retroactive pressure, he is pretty darn glad I made up my mind, too). Hope things work out for everybody else.

Thanks Lady Grey for informing us.

I hope that this will create some movement in the list......There has not been any movement in the list for the past couple or so weeks.

i called mary earlier this week..she said that ppl have withdrawn from the list however, there has not been any one taken off the list from them..and they dont really anticipate ppl being taken off the list..but said to stay hopeful...so ill continue to send them letters and calling...good luck everyone

Jiggaman, Where are you on the list, top, middle or lower third?

So nobody will be taken off the list?????? why is this?

im on the top...i think what she said was that they just have had no movement right now so no one is being taken off... im not sure why this year seems to be slower than most with movement

Who else is pulling out from the alternate list? :meanie:

They probably offerred too many acceptances and got fewer rejections/withdrawals than anticipated !!!....so maybe all the withdrawals are only reducing the number of accepted students andnot opening up slots for alternate students......

this is a very hot theory... what do you guys think? 😕

Certainly possible. Med schools do tend to accept more people than they can accommodate, anticipating that a few (or many) will go elsewhere.

I thought that by law, state schools were not allowed to do this....at least, at UMass, they can never have more than 100 acceptances out at any one time.....maybe the law is different in VT.
