Did they say how many scholarships they're offering this year?
No idea unfortunately. They aren't sharing much information with applicants. A bunch of us applied in November and went way past the 1 month application scoring and selection timeline so hopefully it's different for people applying now. Office staff haven't been helpful, so all the alternates are waiting for an update/decision mid April and will not recieve anything until then.

I thought it was just me! I also applied in November and didn’t hear anything until March where I was placed on alternate status. I don’t think it’s rolling admissions like it was before, it sounds like they’re changing the way they handle apps.

Nope pretty much everyone who submitted before the end of the year had that happen! I guess we will find out in the next couple weeks. I know the va is going through some changes in terms of hiring, layoffs and funding so that could be affecting the program. Hopefully we hear good news!

Hello! Good luck to all of you applying this cycle. You've got this! When you get accepted and think, "holy **** how do I pay for all of this now??" and discover the VA HPSP, feel free to ask questions on the Facebook page. The program is still young and there are several things we still don't know (because no one who has received this scholarship is an attending yet), but we will do our best.

I was awarded the scholarship on October 28. Applied at the end of March, so it was about a 7 month wait. I honestly thought I was ghosted! I've heard they're been particularly slow with reviewing applications this year. My mentor who works at the VA says election years usually screw everything up and they move even slower than usual.

hello! is there anyone else who has applied in the march cycle that hasn’t heard back yet?? I keep emailing and keep getting a response to wait for a decision to be made but it seems like other people who have applied in march have already heard back on a decision 🙁 so idk if i should keep emailing or just wait at this point

Hello, I got put on alternate status today. I think I applied in September 2024. Has anyone been put on alternate status and receive the scholarship?

How long does it typically take them to take you off alternative status
Also just heard back today and got placed on alternative status.. is anyone thinking of keeping their application in and waiting to see if they get off or looking at other options?

Also received alternate status today, from looking through the previous years in this thread, quite a few people get off of the list !

I will say that sadly I’m on academic probation until this upcoming December. So, if I end up getting the scholarship, I will probably have to turn it down unless I can work something out with them.

Could you link last year’s thread if it’s not too much trouble? How long does it typically take them to get off?

I’m a re-app from last time. I was put on alternate status and ultimately denied in April. Now I’m looking for funding for 3rd and 4th year and alternate status again, this time with more As and in top quartile. I’m not hopeful but there’s no downside in staying in and seeing what happens

Can anyone talk about what the onboarding process is like? For example, what are some of the other documents we need to submit? Do I need to upload a new transcript again? Do you have to do this every school year and maintain a 3.0 gpa? Thanks!
