Speaking of housing. I know there is a housing listserv, but in case some of the other classes are not on it....

I'm looking for a house (3+ bedrooms) to buy. Probably in the Christiansburg area. Must have at least some type of yard (I have dogs and would LOVE to put in a garden), does not need to be fenced (I can do it myself). It is okay if it is sort of a "fixer upper" my husband is pretty handy, but no major issues please. 🙂 Prince range under $120k. If you selling your house or know of someone who is, PM the info and/or send some pictures! I will be flying in to the area the first week of March to line up some housing, so I'm starting to get a list of available places together to check out. 🙂 🙂 Thanks!!!

I just got the call today for an interview for febuary 8th. i have no clue which airport i need to be flying to so i can book my ticket and which affordable hotels are around. i will really appreciate it so i can get my flight booked. i'm coming from texas. i appreciate any input.
thanks.

You'll fly into Roanoke, VA (ROA), about 35 miles from VCOM.

The Courtyard Marriott is very near VCOM: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/roabl-courtyard-blacksburg/

The Inn at Virginia Tech is also close and on Tech's campus: http://www.innatvirginiatech.com/

Roanoke is the closest large airport. It is only about a 30 minute or under drive, but you will need to rent a car to take to Blacksburg (or get someone to pick you up, take a cab, etc). There are many places to stay that are cheap around here. When I interviewed last year I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Christansburg - they offer a VCOM rate if you ask for it when you make your reservation. It is just down the road from the school and has a pretty decent free breakfast.

if you fly iinto the roanoke airport, you can opt to get a hotel nearby (a lot to chose from and they are pretty cheap too)... then from the airport, you can take a smart bus (part of valley metro) to the front door at VCOM... the smart bus runs every hour and has free wifi access (only $3 one way)... good luck at your interview!!!

Congrats korsibor and Allface!

Has anyone decided for sure if they'll be attending? If not, how's the decision process coming along?

Thanks ELftown! This is one of my top choices. I still have an interview at LeCOM (Erie) and am still waiting to hear from PCOM. PCOM is my number one, but VCOM would be great too. I live in VA so it would be more convenient for my family. I'm still not in the complete decision making mode as of yet. Yet, I am very VERY happy this school would take me.

thanks everyone for the reply. am a country gurl who never really had to deal with metro and all that stuff. lol. i guess i will have to learn. i will probably rent a car from roanoke and get a hotel at blacksburg. 8am is a lil early to start catching a bus in suit and not knowing where am going.

i wish VCOM had student host. that woud have been really great for me🙂

You might be able to email Megan Price and see if she can set you up with someone who is willing to house an interviewee.

Or PM me 'cause my next seat neighbor says that he is willing to house someone. 😀

Got an email from VCOM today saying that they have put my application on hold before a decision about an interview is made. Has anyone else had their application put on hold? What should I do?

will definite prefer a student female student host. i will try if i can find someone.

i will really like to know the hotel that provided airport pick up and a shuttle to campus. this might be the best option saving me on car rental

never mind. found the information i needed on their website.

Hey cSquared117,

My application was initially put on hold, and I ended up getting an interview at the end of March. I was waitlisted and given early acceptance for the class of 2014. So def don't lose hope. Good luck!

Hi Everyone! So, i just got my interview date for feb 8. Hey, Class of 2013 here, just got done with our 2nd block. Much better than the first. This school is amazing, each school has their flaws but the one good thing about VCOM is the administration wants what is best for their students. Even though it may seem like chaos, it is organized chaos and they are trying to prepare us best for the boards and I have full confidence they will do that.

In response to how to prepare for the interview, in a few short words.......be yourself. Out of all the schools I interviewed at, this was the MOST relaxed. If you have gotten an interview, you are already a student in their minds. Just have a blast and have confidence. If you are confident in your ability they will know that you can succeed here.

I will be patrolling the board the next few days as we are on our break this week. If there are any questions about the school I would love to help.

Good luck to you and you will do great.

i will have my interview here monday, is it fair to say i will hear something by wednessday as to an acceptance or rejection? how often does the adcom meet? and usually what are ure chances post interview?

Last year they met every other Thursday, which seems to be the same as they are doing this year. So basically, you will know by the Thursday after your interview or a week from that Thursday. They call the people who are accepted, and if you don't hear from them by the afternoon you can call to find out your status.

hi everyone! this is my first time posting on here! everyone that has an interview coming up, good luck! my file was complete this tuesday and i got an interview call that same day! my interview is set for monday, feb 15th and I am nervous as crap! would love to hear some questions that they asked you at your interview so that i may be prepared. i know 2 people that are currrently attending vcom and they both love it there. i love how the school seems to really care about you and care about your success. anyone else have an interview for monday, feb 15th??

Try calling again on Monday. We are on break this week, but as far as I know we are still in class on Monday (ie everyone else should be in their offices as well). According to the weather reports it seems that the snow shouldn't last more than a few days, so I imagine the later part of the week will be clear. Maybe they will hold an interview day later this week to make up for any cancelled interviews.

Made it to Blacksburg. Lets see how it goes.

Congratulations on the interview...the day consists of 3 individual interviews, usually held by professors. I can only speak for myself but in my experience only 1 out of the 3 had an actual question and and answer format. Questions were pretty specific to my application and my experiences. So expect to be asked about volunteer work (they love that) and any clinical experiences. I also got the question of 'why DO?' Be honest about it and maybe pull up some facts. For the most part they just want to get to know you and you will find that there are times when you are just chating with them about current events for like 10 minutes or more...I think they want to see your perspective on things and your positive attitude towards issues happening in the world/country etc.
This school is very layed back and everyone is extremely nice, expect to have a good time! Put your best foot forward and just be yourself....🙂
Hope this helps and Good Luck.

thanks! i had to apply late in the application season so i truly hope that not all the spaces in the class are filled! anyone interviewed and got that impression??

waitlisted.....is there anyone is the same boat? I know they explained on my interview day (2/3) that no more acceptances would be offered unless there was movement with previous offers. Was anyone else confused on how many offers of acceptance they have already made?

I interviewed on Feb 3rd, and I got waitlisted too. I couldn't remember when they said they ranked the waitlist. Though I didnt understand how many acceptances they have out now, isnt it only like three weeks to accept/decline offer?

Hope everyone received the e-mail that accepted student's day is March 20th!!!! It's exciting that time is slowly coming up to be headed to VCOM. Also, if you haven't done so join the facebook group VCOM Class of 2014. Even if you have been waitlisted or aren't sure if you are going to VCOM feel free to join and ask questions on there as well.

Hey guys, I was also waitlisted for the February 3rd batch of interviews. I was wondering if anyone else was waitlisted who had an interview before this date, if so, were any of you guys guaranteed a spot for next year's class or is that an offer that is usually given for people wiatlisted later in the cycle. Any posts would be greatly appreciated!!

I hope there will be movement in the waiting list, I really want to go to this school, and I'm not sure if I should send in my deposits for other schools as I am really hoping VCOM can reply before then with good news 🙁

Hey frosty13,

I was waitlisted in March for last year's cycle. I received the offer of a guaranteed spot for next year's class in May after they were done interviewing, and the waitlist was formed. Someone else on the forum can correct me if I'm wrong, but VCOM does rank everyone on the waitlist. They only rank the top 10. If you are in the top 10 you will receive an e-mail letting you know where you stand. Last year had quite a bit of movement. I did not get in off of the waitlist, and took the offer of early admission to the class of 2014. VCOM was my top choice, and I even had acceptances that I turned down because this is where I wanted to go. Hope this helps you out a little bit. Good luck!!!

Thanks for responding danaling12.

Man, I really do not know what to do right now, I really want to go to VCOM, but from what the email informed me of, I do not know if I will even be guaranteed a spot for 2015. I was hoping for a sooner response as VCOM told me that they are waiting for offers to be turned down so that they can offer me a spot. danaling12, if you don't mind me asking, did your waiting list response back in march say why you couldn't be accepted at that moment, i.e. all acceptance offers had been given out?

Thank you so much for helping 🙂

My response said I was waitlisted because all acceptance offers had been sent out at that point. At my interview day, they told us that there was probably only one acceptance left. I know one girl was accepted, and I know two other girls from my interview day received the same offer I did. After I got waitlisted, I contacted Megan and she said that I would hear about my waitlist position after the final weeks of interviewing were over, which ended up being the first week of May. After the first week is when I got my e-mail with the offer of early admission if I was not accepted into the class of 2013.

It is a tough position to be in. I had an acceptance to PCOM, and was going to go there until I interviewed at VCOM and fell in love with it. I held off on my final decision until mid-june, and then decided to take a year off and wait to go to VCOM. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!!

Oh I see, so it seems like you were in the same position as I am. Yeah, this is a tough decision. So far I have been offered a seat at DCOM, which I think is a great school. I just think that VCOM fits me so much more..

Haha, basically I'm just speechless and pretty depressed at this point... but for the time being, I think that I should pay my deposit to DCOM and wait to hear from VCOM..and.. it seems like the wait will be a while. thanks dana 🙂

had my interview today. definitely sad that it sounds that either we will get rejected or waitlisted due to no further spots being available... ugh

I wish both of you the best of luck with getting an acceptance. Frosty13 I know exactly where you are coming from. PCOM is a great school, but I just felt that VCOM was the better fit for me, which is why I decided to take the year off once I received the offer. I think you guys will luck out a little more because a lot of people might be holding multiple acceptances, and are going to be making their final decisions soon. Hope all works out for the best :xf:.

I am waitlisted and I cant imagine that 190 people have been granted an acceptance and even more so paid their deposit. I could be wrong, but I just cant see how the seats can all be reserved with people only having a few weeks to decide whether or not to hold their spot.

Thanks for responding danaling12.

They told you they were going to offer you a spot in the email? or you just got an email saying you were waitlisted?

a month ago they told me during my interview they had 70 seats. so they must have offered 70 acceptances since then?

they must have. they said they have offered enough acceptances to fill the class but have yet to get deposits from everyone so they have to wait for that to occur and then rank the waitlist to determine who else gets in. they said that sometimes they get lots of movement and other times there is hardly none. bummer :-(

I got a call today about interviewing on March 8. I've already sent in my deposit to LMU-DCOM and am pretty set on going there, but I may just go ahead and interview at VCOM. We'll see.
