me and another friend who interviewed in january also have final decision letters (4/19). man, it seems like everyone is gettig letters. i thought they weren't waitlisting until after all interviews were done and they're still interviewing at this point. since there are still so many of us i hope that there are waitlists too (better than a rejection) or all acceptances. one can hope!

With so many people getting a letter sent, I'm willing to bet that it's a mixed batch (admits/wlists/rejects). That's just too many people to be receiving the same letter.

That being said, good luck everyone! I hope my status changes too, someday!
 
hey guys, who's the director/Dean of admissions at UCLA?
 
Seeing as how the mail is slow, do you think they'd tell us the result if we called the office?
 
i just called the admissions office and the monotone guy wouldn't tell me the decision over the phone. he also said that he wasn't "allowed" to say what type of letters were included in the batch sent out on 4/19. Grrr...i guess we'll all just have to wait.
 
Just received my letter dated 4/19 - they waitlisted me. Btw, the waitlist is unranked.

Does the letter say how many the school has waitlisted so far? What did the letter say exactly if you don't mind sharing?

BTw, I'm in shock that UCLA sent out the letters so promptly.
 
I also talked to the admissions guy, in person. My one and only question was if this batch included waitlists and rejections. He wouldnt tell me, but apparently it does include waitlists. If anyone receive an acceptance or rejection, please let us know, so we'll know what kind of letters these are. Thanks.

bummer about being waitlisted, aesculapian...

do you guys think the info released on 4/15 about applicants and their current acceptances had any bearing on the decisions sent out on 4/19?

I wonder if that means the batch was only one type of decisions then. It seems odd that he wouldn't be "allowed" to say if it were a mix of accepts, wls, and rejects.

btw I love how far this process has driven me in terms of wild, unsubstantiated speculation. :wink:
Before I was always like, "Well, we don't really have data to support that. Let's not jump to conclusions..."
Now it's like, "OMG!! The letters were sent on TUESDAY?!?! I heard that's like 65% sure it's a waitlist then. Almost definitely. Well, sort of."

so much anticipation for a bad result.
 
Last year, UCLA wait-listed about 100 people. They claim to have a so-called "high priority" wait list also, but I don't really know the truth to that or how many are on this list. They re-evaluate and take people off the list as space becomes available, so there is no ranking among wait-listed applicants. Good luck!

well, seems like this mailing was all waitlists. i'm sorry to hear about that---but it's definitely better than being rejected, and you still may be going to ucla in the fall! hang in there!!!!

for those who didn't receive a letter: i called and asked if they are sending *any* post-interview rejections this year, and monotone boy told me that he doesn't know. (surprise surprise). as far as my status is concerned, i asked and he said my file is still "with the committee" and i should know by the first week of may. basically, nothing new learned.
 
i'm writing my letter to UCLA accepting the waitlist position. who should i address my letter to?

In the meantime, anyone knows how many people got off the waitlist last year??

I interviewed February 9th and didn't receive a letter on 4/19. For those of us still waiting for a letter, could those of you who received one on the 19th tell us when you interviewed. I'm going on my 12th week of not hearing anything and am trying to figure out if I didn't get a letter on 4/19 because they're going to include mine in the next batch which will probably be rejections. you should call the admissions office and ask them if your file has completed committee review yet. if it hasn't, then there's stil hope. they should still be open.

if you check out this thread (UCLA post-interview status as of 4/19), you'd get a better sense of approx number of people who are in the 4/19 batch and their interview month info.

There's no reason to feel pesimisstic yet. Yours is with the committee probably cuz they want to give additional consideration...it may be a good sign that you haven't got a letter yet. Good luck!!
 
Does anyone know how often UCLA sends out letters? As of today there still isn't a change on my status check page...good news I hope, but I don't want to go thru another month of waiting to find out.
 
When did you interview? It could depend on that also. I think earlier in this thread someone said they were sending out letters the first week of May. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Mine was in mid January. Aesculapian interviewed in March and was included in this batch. You're right in that several of us here were told that we would hear something in mid April and late April/early May. So most likely yours will be found in the latter match.

Not me. Finally got home, checked my mails, and got that darn "you are not THAT hot" letter. At least it wasn't a rejection, but I begin to wonder if UCLA places EVERY UNWANTED interviewee on a waitlist. Folks, please post anything you know about the UCLA waitlist movement.

I guess I'll be the first to say, I was a reject from the 4/19 batch... it's for sure, at least on my end, it wasn't all waitlists. Good luck to the rest of you!

Oh no...I'm very very sorry to hear about the news. Hate to harrass you but do you feel that your interview has anything to do with this outcome? In any rate, I doubt I can get off the waitlist considering how many us are on the list so far--this thing just drags on and on, and finally says "nope" at the end. I guess I will be living with uncertainty for the next few months. 🙁 It's UCLA's loss not giving you a fat acceptance.

I thought my interview went exceptionally well, it was by far the best of all that I have had... yet I was rejected. Who knows? I did express some reservation about living in LA during my interview, possibly that was the kiss of death for me?

At least those of us rejected have no longer to endure the misery of waiting... hopefully those of you on the waitlist have alternatives and are not held in complete limbo...

to the rest of the guys in limbo -- i wonder if our financial aid gets jacked 'cuz if we are lucky lucky lucky and do get in, we'll be way behind 🙁

funny... i felt my ucla interview was the worst out of all my interviews. i think it depends i guess. sometimes interviews make all the difference. i end up saying somethings about abortion that i shouldn't have said @ ucsf -- oops, rejected. but man, my interviews @ ucsd were way incredible and i got in! who knows 🙂
 
I thought my interview went GREAT...so much for the thought. Those of you on the waitlist, are you planning on sending an update letter? How can we find out more about the waitlist movement??

Here's my story. I talked to my mother's friend which is a full-time faculty member at ucla som. He told me I should be proud of being on the waitlist but warned that the chances were not so good but at my request he said he would find out more for me. He told my mother last week that he saw my name on the waitlist and that I had a pretty good position. I won't tell you my ranking but he definitely said that I was ranked. I also have a family friend who graduated 10 years ago and was active with the committee. He told me that it is ranked internally meaning you are ranked within your group or category whatever it may be (ex: non-trad student, disadvantaged, etc.). When a position opens up they fill that position with someone from the same category as the person who dropped and this is probably what the admissions office means when they say they will review all the files when positions open up. I don't believe they do because it would be a waste of time to re-review the files everytime a position frees up. The same family friend also told me that the waitlist is only about 30 ppl each year. My interviewer also confirmed that. I don't know where the admissions office gets the # of 100 ppl but that could be the total of both the waitlist and hold list. If you want to know more try calling your interviewer and find out. I would think they are a better source of information than the admissions office.
 
How can everyone on sdn and their mommas get a waitlist and they only give out 30 waitlist? Do you think they are waitlisting more this year because of AMCAS?

Since they waitlisted only ~30 people last year, I imagine they would do the same this year. Does it mean that all the SDNers took up all of the waitlist spots?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> That's awesome but also unbelieveble!! What about the people who haven't even had interviews yet?

This is when I wish I had my momma on the admissions. <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />

On the side note, I contacted my wonderful interviewer a few months to inquire about my status, she flatout told me that she's NOT in the position to say anything about my status. So hopefully, some of you have a better luck obtaining more useful info from your interviewers if you decide to pursue the matter through them.
 
Even if I wanted to contact my interviewer I couldn't because I wasn't given their contact info. Not even a card. Nothing, nada, zilch. BAD sign, huh? Sniff...Sniff..
 
you could probably look up the info on the internet. of course i don't recommend that -- if the person didn't give you contact info, perhaps they don't want you calling them 🙂

was told same thing here. i'm pretty sure that system is gonna be a hamper for me, but i'm not complaining. hoping all the other matthew0126 wannabes got accepted to harvard... 🙂

I'm gonna vent a little about UCLA (and other schools in general)

UCLA, what a bunch of p%#sies. In my letter it says "we are unable to take any further action on your application". Why don't schools just get some balls and say what they mean. It could be like hey, you weren't a good fit for our school so we have to reject your application. And, if I'm gonna be rejected why do they need to wait more than 3 months to send my letter. I'm just not good at sugar coating things so I hate reading all the crap med schools send. That is why in all of my withdrawal schools I first flatter the school and then tell them I'm withdrawing because I liked another school better. Give them a taste of their own medicine, but like they really care anyway. Alright, that's it. Good luck to those of you waiting on UCLA.

Why do you guys want to go to school their so badly? For me, it was location, location, location and of course the reputation. However, when I visited I wasn't very impressed. It seems like a place much better for residency than med school. That's just my opinion and not because I got rejected. I had made this decision a long time ago already.

If admissions offices are any sign of how responsive schools are to their med students, then I definitely did not want to be at UCLA anyway. Okay, that's it for sure.

i have a handful of friends who have acceptances to both ucla and ucsf (apparently they like the same applicants) so i figure that come may 15 there will be considerable movement on both those waitlists...
 
A MS-1 told me that about 1/4-1/3 of her classmates got in off of the waitlist last year. Not a bad deal for us waiting. BTW, this thread was far down on page 3, looking forlorn and unloved.
