Your "acceptance" is reported to AAMC and schools will have that information. The school that is about to offer you a seat is required to notify the school where you are holding a seat by phone. At that time, the Dean of the school who wants to make you an offer would be advised of your status with them and wouldn't (shouldn't!) make you the offer. If the rule was violated, school A could/should report school B. I appreciated your perspective. But choosing a MD offer over a DO offer even if one has already paid the deposit and started pre-matriculation programs at a DO does not put one's integrity at issue in my opinion.

@gyngyn even says that MDs can make an offer even if the applicant started classes at a DO.

I understand if you "played the system" of MD vs. MD after traffic day, then both offers can be rescinded. However, accepting a MD offer after traffic day and off of its waitlist after starting pre-matriculation programs at a DO is considered playing the system?

Don't DO schools understand that applicants are more likely to attend MD if given a chance over a DO? Serious question...

I feel like this kind of mentality is the core issue of why majority of applicants see MD > DO. If there is ever going to be progress for MD and DO medical schools to be seen as equals in an applicant’s eyes, then I think DO schools have the right to rescind an applicant’s acceptance if they deem them to have “played the system.”

The way I see it, taking an MD acceptance while starting a pre-matriculation program for a DO school is not fair for the school since they would have wasted time and resources thinking the enrolled student was committed to their program. It would be similar if an applicant were to do the same to a lower tier MD school. The point is: starting a program at an established medical school (whether MD or DO) and then suddenly dipping in the middle of it for another school could be seen as a breach of integrity. Just my two cents.

There are threads ad nauseam regarding MD vs DO and why the mentality among applicants exists, so I don't want to detract from the original post any further other than to say that a DO school can immediately fill an empty spot with another off its waitlist, the wasting of time and resources are minimal risks DO schools take into consideration when determining the insanely high deposits that they require of their acceptances, and when PDs at choice/highly competitive residencies start changing their mentality and give equal paring to a MD and DO graduate, then applicants can start doing the same because progress starts at the top of the food chain...
 
Just discovered this gem of a thread and thought I'd join. Interviewed at 6, waitlisted at 5, technically waiting to hear back from 1 but a woman in admissions kind of let it slip that if you hadn't heard back by Mar 15, you should expect to be waitlisted soooo I'm just gonna go ahead and say I'm waitlisted at all 6. Hair's not falling out at all, I'm completely fine :whistle:

I am in the same position at ECU's BSOM. I have been in contact with admissions with a few questions, and they said at this point, it's just a waiting game. They did say that offers from the waitlist slow down at the beginning of June and by July they have "released" most of the students still on the waitlist. I believe like someone mentioned in an earlier comment that they pull people off of the waitlist who keep the accepted student pool diverse and balanced. Good luck, I hope you hear soon!
 
Are there any MD schools still interviewing? Seems like most are done, confused at why all the movement happens early may if everyone has already heard decision post-interview.

Most people hold onto multiple acceptances until April 30 which is when they have to decide on one.

Some schools wait until the end for post-ii decisions. I'm waiting on UVM from late Feb they said we'd hear late April 🙁
 
My WL school said that I will be ranked around the end of May. And I still have 4 weeks to hear from my other Interview. Im gonna need to stress nap for a month after this cycle is over.
 
I was scribing the other day, and talking to another scribe who is a close friend of mine about my never ending waitlists. The medical director overheard us and reassured me, “Nobody gets in on the first time”. I told him it was still pretty demoralizing, and all he said was: “Just wait until you get to residency.”

For some reason, this has been the best advice i’ve gotten throughout the entire cycle. Whatever tough times we’re going through now is all just training for the hardest years of the journey. I hope this is reassuring for you all as well.

This is my third cycle, and through all of this the biggest thing I've learned is that you definitely need mental strength to handle the constant stress and uncertainty. It definitely takes a toll - the waitlists and rejections - but you have to remember to believe in yourself and have confidence. It might seem like taking the MCAT and applying to medical school is the hardest thing ever...but imagine studying for boards, applying for residency, and actually practicing on your own. Going through an application cycle is nothing compared to that. This has definitely taught me to toughen up and just deal with it. It really is great practice.
 
Just to confirm from an earlier topic: so if i'm on a waitlist at one MD school, and am about to begin or already attending a MD pre-matriculation program at another school, I can no longer choose or be accepted to go to the waitlisted school if they pull me off the waitlist?

I'm not saying people who get accepted right off the bat don't appreciate their acceptances, because I know they do, but this whole process and now having to wait until after Traffic Day before knowing if I get accepted or not will absolutely make me appreciate an acceptance. Also, med school is going to be balls hard and this waiting experience will be something to draw on when trying to push through
 
My friend just got her waitlist rank for a class of 60 that interviews 240. It said they rank 150 people on the waitlist. Idk why a school feels the need to drag people along like that. This thread is to give WL hope and support but I mean this as a friendly reminder to continue working on your app during the cycle, and also that you’re not alone if you get a rank and are one of these people they should have let free for their sanity awhile ago.

This is very true - I'm studying for Step 1 right now, and every time I feel a little miserable I remember how desperately I wanted this and how lucky I am to be here. I think it definitely makes you appreciate everything a little bit more.

I'm really pulling for everyone on this thread! This month is likely going to be really slow, but hopefully you guys will hear some good news in May.

Starting a new volunteering thing next week cuz my other clinical is kinda going down the drain and idk if I will be reapplying or not. Plus I like the organization.

I’m really pulling for you dude you deserve it!!! You got this. You’re super supportive on the threads and I know you’d make a great doc.

In the mean time I just graduated winter quarter and find myself with nothing to do lol I’ll be preping for the career fair that’s coming up if nothing else! My point is we gotta try and occupy our time, this month is going to be extremely slow

Yeah, you'd think it would feel like a lot of info--but really it turns out to be neither reassuring nor particularly informative.

I'm on this thread because--although I externally appear to be a functioning adult--I actually spend 100% of my time thinking about the wait list, and whether I will get off of it, and what will happen if I don't. I'm in the same boat as a few of you: accepted to a DO school, wait listed at my (first choice!) MD.
