Hi, wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on my current list of schools as well as any possible additions to consider.

My GPA and MCAT scores are listed in the title, I'm a Washington state resident.

Clinical Experience
  • Patient escort/volunteer at a hospital (200+ hours)
  • Medical scribe at an assisted living facility (recently began, projected for the next 1.5 years for ~1230 hours)

Non-clinical Experience
  • Volunteer at a homeless shelter (will continue through the next 1.5 years for ~230 hours)
  • Assistant classroom teacher at a preschool (25 hours)
  • Volunteer with disability resources as a note-taker (10 weeks)

Research Experience

  • Worked in a lab for an entire year before moving onto a paid position (~700 hours)
  • Worked as a paid research assistant for ~1.5 years (about 20 hours/week), no publications at the moment but presented research (~1540 hours)

Shadowing Experience (155 hours total)
  • NICU/pulmonary (35 hours)
  • Surgery/urology (23 hours)
  • Surgery/general (8 hours)
  • SurgeryOB-GYN (7 hours)
  • Family medicine (31 hours)
  • Pediatrics (61 hours)

Extracurricular Activities
  • Interned for a company, paid business/management position where leadership skills were demonstrated
  • Interned for a photography/design company
  • Led small group for a Christian club

Current List of Schools
  • University of Washington
  • Sidney Kimmel (Thomas Jefferson)
  • Warren Alpert (Brown)
  • Colorado Denver
  • Mayo
  • Rochester
  • Tufts
  • UCSF
  • Michigan
  • Baylor
  • Boston University
  • UCLA
  • Perelman (UPenn)
  • Feinberg (Northwestern)
  • Pritzker (UChicago)
  • Stanford

I know Mayo has a really low acceptance rate, and that Baylor/UCSF/UCLA tend to favor their own residents--feel free to leave your thoughts on those schools too. Thanks guys!

You have several reach schools as you already know. Add Washington State and a few others such as Hofstra, Einstein, Cincinnati, Miami, Tulane.

I'm thinking UPenn, Feinberg, Pritzker, Stanford are my reach schools, do you feel like others on my list would count as "reach"? And should I get rid of a few?

I would highly suggest getting rid of a few of the reaches (you have >5) and adding some more mid-tier schools that are more OOS-friendly. Ex: St. Louis, Temple, MCW, VCU, Albany, Oakland Beaumont...etc

Note: Applied this cycle and my stats are very similar to yours, have had success with several mid-tiers
