  • C in genetics
  • Upwards trend
School list:
This cycle, I only applied to UCSF, Tufts, UB, and Roseman, but I am now refining my list (based on the ADEA OG Dental School ‘23-‘24 list) since my DAT score was pretty low.

I am looking for schools with AA 5-95th percentile ranges of 18~25, OOS friendly, and no minimum DAT scores/cutoffs.

I would appreciate any suggestions on schools I should apply to with my stats! I did not take Anatomy or Micro so I know that disqualifies me from some target schools I could’ve applied for.

please fill out a full WAMC template...

I converted my scores and got a 18AA 20TS (18BIO 20GC 21OC) 19PAT 18RC and 13QR 😭 This is my first time taking DAT. I only had 2 months to really study due to personal reasons (not trying to make excuses) and couldn’t finish studying for QR. But I gave it my best despite my circumstances!

I feel that I have a well rounded application and have been told I’m a strong applicant by my advisors/mentors/professors (well…that was prior to taking the DAT😂). I also have a masters (3.8gpa w/ full tuition scholarship), and 2 undergrad degrees in bio and chem (3.49 gpa bc I had rough 1st semester but retook and got As). I have done 3 research internships (I even contributed to 2 Nature publications!), honors in biology, dental assistant, volunteering, some leadership, lots of shadowing, etc.

I know my score is low and it’s late within the cycle, but I already submitted 2 apps early July and now I’m not sure what to do. I’ve seen people get in with low scores so I know it’s not impossible. But Ive also heard schools can screen you out if you don’t score well in a section? I just feel like something has to give at this point :/

was your MS an SMP?
what did NYU admissions advise you to do?

I did a MS in oral biology

I don’t have a prehealth advisor as a MS Student in NYU. My undergrad prehealth advisor/mentors/professors all said I was a strong applicant but that was prior to taking my DAT. I don’t know how they’d feel now and my advisor retired. My previous employer suggested I retake but I would need to be unemployed for another 2-3 months and that just doesn’t feel possible right now.

is "UB" buffalo or boston?
how did you come up with this list?

i'm not asking about advisors or mentors...
Oh you asked what did NYU admissions advise…so I thought you meant what my NYU advisors said regarding my apps… I don’t plan on applying to NYU so I didn’t talk to their admissions. Can you clarify what you meant?

i meant what i said
"what did NYU admissions advise you to do?"

thanks
you get interview invites and acceptances from mission fit
"stats" are not mission fit...
have you interacted with the national dental school organization that matches your minority group?

Welcome to the forums.

Roseman doesn't make sense and probably isn't a great fit with your undergrad metrics. Let's see if they weigh your MS performance better. But it's hard to argue wanting to go all the way out to Utah as an OOS/private school student. UCSF also feels out of range.

Is there a reason you did not apply to PR dental schools like Ponce, UPR, Mendez (new PR school); how about Touro NYMC, Rutgers? Did any of these schools network with you at the HSDA conference?

Yes, but they are essential 🙂 So I first picked my schools based on what I qualified for with what I have, and then refined my list based off of fit. I have a longer list on my laptop that I plan on applying to next cycle.

Yes, I interacted with my mentors who are from the national orgs that match my identity.

Hi! I have a longer list and these are just the 4 that I didn’t mind applying to this cycle. I plan on applying again next cycle if no luck this cycle. I chose Roseman because according to ADEA OG they had 81% OOS enrollees, my stats are within range, and I liked the school. UCSF is my dream school so I didn’t mind applying this cycle to see the outcome.

I didn’t apply to schools in PR because they’re not OOS friendly, but I will consider it 🙂

Yes, I have Touro and Rutgers on my list but for next cycle.

FYI Per the latest version of the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, Roseman had an OOS enrollment rate of 69.3%. However, OOS-friendliness does not equate to OOS enrollment rate; instead, OOS-friendliness equals the OOS acceptance rate relative to the OOS applicant pool, which was ~ 7.39%. PHSU (in PR) was actually more OOS-friendly than Roseman, (~ 8.5%).
