hey guys, do you know if Wayne State Screens, and what do they screen based on?
Thanks

They do screen..but I dont know what their cut off numbers are. When I applied last time I was instate, had a 26 MCAT, and a 3.9 GPA and I received a secondary.

They screen the initial AMCAS applications before sending out secondaries, which explains why few people have received them yet.

I just got mine, wow, I mean my GPA is really high, but my MCAT is totally not that hot

in-state?

From searching other threads it seems that Wayne only gives secondaries to 1/3 of applicants. To my knowledge they do a numbers based screen but I think some consideration is given to other parts of the app. The secondaries are also given out on a rolling basis and they like to interview like-minded people together.... The first group of interviews will all have 3.5+ GPA and 10+ on each section of MCAT. They then interview until February I think.

thanks for the info, please keep me updated, if you know more about this school. Also, i'm not from MI, i'm from CA, which is not a (+) point for applying to out of state med schools.

They only accept ~20% out of staters... If you got a secondary this early it is probably a good sign.

How do you know that they only give out secondaries to about 1/3 of the applicants??? It seems really low, considering just over 1000 in state people apply based on MSAR stats, and over 200 matriculate...that would mean only 333 out of the 1000 in state get secondaries!!! I just got one last week from Wayne State with just a 3.7 GPA and a 28 MCAT in stater...

A few people posted it on a thread from previous years... I have no idea of it's validity.....

oh man, I totally hope so. I think it's because of my essay, I was looking at their essays, and they actually value hardships, and man, I have not had two many, but I had two, and dude, they were bad. (One of them was living my country at the age of 13, well, not living, more like my family got kicked out because we were not muslim, and the second one was my mother's health condition about 3 years ago).

I'm in-state and my GPA average (i have a strong upward trend though and a 4.0 in a master's degree) and so is my MCAT so hopefully this helps those out who don't have a high GPA

Have any of you guys submitted your Wayne State secondary yet???

Does cdn stand for Canadian? I heard they give some preference to residents of Windsor... no idea where that is though. If your in-state those numbers will probably give you a good shot. The school has a huge class (290 students per class... that's over 1000 medical students on one campus) so they have a large range of GPA's and MCAT scores.

I'm not a resident of Windsor but I've heard the same thing. I actually moved to MI back in December and have to live here for a year to be considered in state so by the end of this year I'll be a MI resident.

Will tomorrow 8/9...

Who hated writing that second essay?

And isn't it a little weird they let you choose what topic to write about?

Crazy Wayne!

I'm in state, i just recieved it last Thursday...I probably won't send it out until the end of this week...I just submitted UIC, Northwestern and Loyola today, I'll work on Waynes essays later.

from MI, got mine a week or so ago, I've got northwestern and OSU due dates breathing down my neck, so I havent had a chance to submit... though my essays will pretty much be recycled from other apps.

32 MCAT, 3.7 gpa, in state.

Don't forget your parents are alumni and you will add diversity!

(sad to see no legacy info listed on the secondary... sad for me as I listen to tiny violins playing everywhere)

And on the topic of that... the option of the diversity essay actually defined diversity as "persons from backgrounds different from yours." So.... some immigrant from Asia could write about us Americans? Sounds a little funny to me... I don't think they intended to mean it like that though!

Crazy Wayne!

which one did you pick?

I liked the fact taht you could pick cause that way you could recycle answers from other applications.

My mom went to wayne for her undergrad and masters, my two uncle's went there, my aunt went to wayne, my cousin went to wayne for his undergrad and PhD in Biochemistry.

So none if it is to the medical school, but hopefully they take that for what it's worth.

Did anyone go to their Pre-Med Open House day??? I was planning on mentioning how much I learned about the urban setting and the experiences their students get from it...which was mentioned a lot at the Open House day.

But how would they ever know if you didn't bring it up?

Also... If you go to their website and watch the video of the speech the Dean gives, it pretty much gives the answers to the urban med school question!

I totally picked the other questions: The with the hardest challenge you've ever experienced and the diversity question and unfortunatley I have to answer teh reapplicant question

What were your stats last year when you applied??? And why didn't you get in...I've heard Wayne is very good about telling you things to work on

You should write about how you turned in your application earlier! And how you actually got a secondary this time! That would be an awesome essay!

From experience, they interview at least through March. And I think that I saw pre-meds in for interviews as late as late april/early may.

usually

not that all of those students are ever "on campus" at the same time. fact of life is that the third and fourth years are scattered all over the place (most hospitals in metro Detroit, away rotations out-of-state, private offices, etc) doing rotations.

ChymeChancellor said:

very true.

can some of you post the secondary questions? I'm a late applicant because of the August MCAT and I wouldn't mind starting to think about them...

they're on the official questions thread

I mailed mine in a week ago, called Friday and they had not recieved it yet. I will call again tomorrow to see if I am complete yet.

When do they start handing out interviews again?

thanks... do they ask for misdemeanors on the secondary? any other non-standard questions? (sat/act)

gapotts2003 said:
Nope. They just want your money, your pre-req grid, a photo, and the essays.

👍 nice...

anyone know the stats for OOS applicants to Wayne State such as acceptance MCAT/GPAs?
