They might change it from year to year, I don't know. I don't have last year's essays, but I have the sheet from two years ago, when I was applying. They give you a list of twelve topics, and you have to write 3 essays, one from each group.
Group I:
1.Describe a situation in which you had to ask for help.
2. If you could go back in time 5 years, what aspect about yourself would you change?
3. Describe one example of when your work or performance has been criticized. How did you handle it?
4. What is your understanding of why you have not been accepted to medical school in the past, and what have you done to increase the likelihood that you will be accepted this year?(Reappplicants must answer this question).
Group 2:
1. Describe the most serious ethical problem of modern era medicine.
2. Describe the attributes of a humanistic physician.
3. Describe the criteria you will use in selecting your medical career choice, either primary care or specialty care.
4. Discuss your reasons for selecting to apply to Wayne State University School of Medicine (Non-residents must answer this question)
Group 3:
1. What is the most influential book or poem you have read and why?
2. What was your most embarrassing moment, and how did you handle it?
3. Which 20th century public person has had the most positive impact on the world and why?
4. Describe the most interesting person you have ever met(excluding family members).
