Welcome to the early release of the new Forums!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've noticed that the ability to edit one's own posts fades before an hour passes from the time of posting. This makes it impossible for WAMCers to add in additional important information to their first post, remove inappropriate content like identifying information, or to edit embarrassing typos noted belatedly. Can this be fixed?

Thank you for putting out MDApps links back!

It used to be 5 minutes. Donors get additional time to edit.

no it used to be 5 minutes before it put the timestamp for when you edited it
it used to be that you can take out part of your post or replace it with any character, even years after you posted
now you can't edit it at all after that hour. that means whatever you say is permanent which is bs

Holy crap I didn't realize this... Admins, why do you no longer want us to do this? It seems like for people who don't want to change things... they never have to. But if people have a reason to, they can. I feel like it should be left up to the poster to decide this. For some people, posts could compromise their anonymity years down the road -- however, it is better to leave the structure of the post and change a few details than it is to delete the whole thing...

So I see that we can pay to delete messages -- that's good. Can you add ability to edit at any time as a pay feature as well?

I thought he was referring to the 10 minutes vs 60 minutes for editing without a timestamp.... I tried to edit an older post and I wasn't able to... perhaps I tried too soon...

Edit: Yes, I tried too soon. Thanks!

Anyone that prefers the old-school SDN Forums, there is new style for you. See bottom left corner to select it.

BTW, user icons are in-progress - they'll be rolled out in next 24 hours.

I love the new functionality and ease of the user interface! I think it's pretty too. Thank you!

I have to admit, since the new forums aren't going anywhere, this skin is pretty sweet. Definitely easier on the eyes and I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind it as well. Now if we can just do something about the Likes I will be straight!

Hey. Gimme a chance to catch up with your likes. 🙁

Anyone notice that the MDApps ID is being displayed as if it was a number with a comma? Like, instead of 25819, it says 25,819.

Lol does it matter??

Well, of course not! But I wanted to throw it out there while the team is cleaning up the little bits that got broken in the change-over. Sorry, didn't think issuing a bug report here would be inappropriate.

I have to say, I am not at all a fan of the new layout (even after changing to the "old" skin). But I think worse than the layout is the "Like" system. As a long time SDN and Reddit user, I really really really do not want to see the Reddit effect on SDN.

On top of that, can we get the PreMed/Med/Resident/Attending tags back? It's not perfect by any means, but it helped when you had Premeds trying to post in Physician forums and act as if they knew what they were talking about.

After testing "likes" for a week, I agree - not much benefit other than allowing a member to give a "like" for a post rather than posting.

I've removed the like points so they will not display on the member's message info. But I would prefer to keep them so that members can give props to other members without having to post in-thread.

I've been working on that - I'll get that fixed soon.

Honestly, the "like" function has been superfluous for me. I wouldn't be totally distraught if it went or stayed either way. I don't think anyone takes it seriously at all.

I am more worried about the long term effect.

Thanks, Lee

i thought the like system was stupid until i got a lot of points
i still think it's stupid but now i like it more

Is the larger avatar perk gone for good?

I have decided to like your comment.

This post is to inform you of this.

The goal is to have most of the features as previously. However, larger avatars unfortunately is not available currently. We will be adding some new features for donors, such as the ability to change your name and some other cool stuff.

Fixed it!

I noticed that badges came back but new ones (since the update) haven't been awarded. Specifically I am talking about a 2 year badge that I don't have, but I assume this applies to everyone. I got the trophy points but no badge. And now the trophy points have been replaced with the old school badges.

Everything else has been great. Keep up the good work!

Cool, thanks for the response!

Oh man, I would totally donate for the ability to change my name and whatnot!
I was initially opposed to the 'Like's, but no one seems to be paying them much mind, so I stopped caring.
The trophy points, on the other hand, are nowhere near as cool as a '2yr' badge. Just saying. I was looking forward to that badge!!

I thought we always had the ability to change our name if we were a donor. We just had to submit a request and then wait for the next update of the site. I take it that we will be able to change our names much easier with the new update.

Correct, you'll be able to change it yourself.

Apologies if I missed this earlier in this thread, but is there a way to click a button to view the last unread message in a thread?

There's a little blue circle you can click just to the left of the thread title if you are looking at the list of threads in the main forum.

I never saw it on the list of perks, or I certainly would have done so by now. I joined this forum under my throwaway 'not sure I really want to be tied to this' username back when I hadn't really decided to go for medical school yet.

Also, I'm confused...why is the 2008 style so...blue? I kind of want to shift back to it just for the inter-post delineation, but it's far bluer than the 'Blue' style, which is just...weird. I mean, I know it doesn't matter. Graphics quibbles are just that...quibbles...but it just struck me as odd!

I liked the way the donor banner looked better than the little shield icon. Any chance of going back to that?

We could. Anyone else want to change back to the banner?

The old SDN 2008 template was super blue / purple. I'm working on a style that looks more like the 2012 changes - more light grey.

i think the banner looked cooler than the shields
i like the setup from before this change. this new all white background is hard on the eyes
still needs better discrimination between posts. the 2008 is better but not the best

I liked the banner as well 🙂

Thanks for being so receptive!
Yeah, the banners were pretty cool! They kept the badge system (instead of switching to trophy), but updated the display...win/win!
In the end, I think this is one of the minorest quibbles, but as sinombre said, it's really cool that you guys are so open about all of this!

Word...banners 👍 colored post headers 👍

And on that note...what's the plan for smileys? I don't care either way, just curious whether the old ones are being transitioned over or whether I ought to break down and learn the codes for the new ones!

I also think the banners look a lot better than the icons. Plus the banners take up less vertical space.

Lee-
My fez got cut off 🙁 Is there anyway to adjust the size of our avatar or something? It seems like a lot of people who had larger pictures got awkwardly cropped.
