yeah yeah vdub. I'm sure you're sorry. You'll have to make it up to me and help me with my unpacking. Just kidding.

Does anyone need a desk? I have a solid wood desk but I never use it. I'm antidesk. SO if anyone is interested please let me know.

2 weeks and I'll be in the hills of chino with you all.

Steph,
I am looking for a wooden desk....lets e-mail and see what you got going on over there....I really need one..and am having trouble finding one I like..

How funny that is...NICE!!!

Hi everyone!

I'll be headed back to Pomona on Tuesday and Wednesday so if you are around, I'd like to meet some of you, maybe for lunch? It would be nice to put some faces to all of you.

In any case, I will be at your "getting to know each other" picnic to help out with the games and what-not.

hope you're having a good summer....enjoy it while you've got the time!

is the parkin permit that we need the yelllow rectangular one????

Arnold,
I am in SAPP next week...but after class...I'd love to meet up and chat with ya.....

Let me know what your schedule is....

hey so is the parking permit the yellow one, does it say 2001-2002, cuz jeff who is sellin one has one saying 2000-2001

Hey Vdub- Yeah, I think I've seen one of my friends have that yellow parking permit. It's sort of rectangular and looks cheap.. like laminated paper.

lanny, any idea what yr it has on it, i need to seeif i should get it from jeff

Vdub- Well, my friend has a new parking permit for this upcoming year so I assume it is 2001-2002.. maybe all the parking permits look basically the same. I'm not sure about it.. sorry.

I came back from the LaVerne LA Fitness.. not too bad! Unfortunately, it closed a bit earlier than I thought it would (the website said 11pm and it closed around 10pm), but it seemed like a good time to go.. not too crowded or anything. I think it is statistically the closest one to campus. I'll check out the Diamond Bar one sometime too.

How's everyone's moving-in going?

Arnold, will you be staying up in Pomona till school starts again? If so I guess I'll see ya in a week or so.

Lanny, I might be up again Sunday and move in my bed/desk/and most of the other major things. My roomie has the place setup mostly. I'll call you if/when I come up. Otherwise I'll see you and everyone else once I move up by July 24 or so.

HEY all...

I met this girl today...at the post office, and she told me that San Diego was ~40 minutes away....she HAD locked her keys in her car(clue #1 not to invest too much in her cognative ability)..

I offered her a ride to her house(CLUE #2..people in NY get killed like this..hmm....19 year old blonde..~125LBS..MEETS 6'4", 270lb stranger..let me get in his car..and take him to my house where no one is home, so I can get my keys(cue up some 70's porn music...or at least some "this chick is gonna get murdered" music)..

and drove her back to her car...(Clue #3..she tells me that she is a waitress at this local retaurant...and tells me to come by..???Ok..she is 19...me 29...my YOUNGER sister is older than her...)

Lets recap....locked her keys in the car, got into my car(cute as I may be...I am a stranger), takes me to her house where no one is home...and then tells me where she works...?????? Maybe I am a cynnical New Yorker...but that is SCREAMING for trouble...or at least a stalker...

Anyway...with all these glaring problems, bells and whistles...I still feel comfortable believing that San Diego is 40 min away...even after having driven to Newport Beach with Lanny...which is about 35 minutes away, and is NO where near San Diego....

so I hopped in the olde rental(as my car is being shipped cross country as we speak) and took my mom to the ever-famous San Diego Zoo....ok....so now its 3 hours later....still in I-5...

I was ready to kill someone....needless to say I finally got there....I spent a good 4 hours at the zoo...and happily returned to the Hills of Chino....ahh....

But wait...The damn Giant Pandas were sleeping in their air conditioned cave...so I didn't get to see them....I was like...ARE YOU FOR REAL???

It was like Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Vacation when he got to Wally World and it was CLOSED!!! Except there was no John Candy to greet me....

I am back home....no worse for wear...

Till Monday...when the ole SAPP crew gets together...

YOSH,
You, for a New Yorker, were taken too believing that SD was only 40 minutes away.

Okay all. It's Saturday night and I'm at home playing with all my new electronics. I'm must be a real nerd (DONT LAUGH AT THAT). No I just had to learn how to use all this stuff before I move and I have to start packing because the wicked witch of the world won't leave me alone. Stepmothers can be such a pain in the a--.

Well off to make my bed.
Steph

yosh

Gotta say.... What an adventure you had there.... I'm sure that's some story to tell for the rest of your life :D

From your colleague at DMU,

Hey Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while b/c i've went back home after moving my things in my apartment. Its nice being back up north in NoCal and away from the annoying train tracks. See everyone in several weeks.

John,

...you sure she was 19?

Yosh, if the grass is green, play ball!! :D

LOL, just playing. Good luck everyone!

wyldstyle2000

Yosh, congrats on the adventure man :D but umm...i'm 30 miles north of SD and it takes me 35 mins to get there. just to get an idea...it takes me 1 hr 40 mins to get to pomona if i take 15N. and 15N is one mile from my house. yeah so umm...u sure she was 19 and not on drugs :D haha i'll see ya soon...might be comin up today to drop of a few things...

I have survived another day in SoCal...and am almost done setting up my stuff...Tomm starts SAPP...uggh..school...

I need to get my room set-up....it gets frustrating....

I am ready for Sex and the City and Six Feet Under tonight...and getting my clothes ready for my 1st day of class....

BTW..the girl from yesturday..said she graduated from Chino Hills High...home of the Bulldogs...last year....

I am gonna go "visit" her this week.....

See some of you all tomm...

I need some advice and I know you all have discussed this before, but I can't find the thread.

Banks--which bank are you using? any have better deals than others?

Cell phones--When I was out there, I noticed Version and Cingular had terrible reception. ATT was good, but deals stink. How is Sprint? I think I might go through them...minutes + long distance.

Steph

Yosh,

I'm not surprised...just like at Sharky'z.

So, did all you SAPPers finish our assigned coloring? Shame on you....and me.

Well, since Yosh said last year's students learned more by coloring during the class session, I would do the same.

See you all tomorrow...and Lanny, make sure to introduce us to your fellow ISACers.

-Rob

Yosh, good story. I feel your pain with the Giant Pandas, they wouldn't come out when I visited them a couple years ago.
I see they haven't become more extroverted.

I think I'm keeping my bank with Wells Fargo, that way all I have to do is tell them my address change. I hate messing with all that crap.

I finally scored my apartment though, in Diamond Bar. I suppose I could have waited until I got out there to do that...moving right along I am  Am I the lone one out there, since it seems like all you other guys are in Chino Hills or the Plaza.

Hi everyone,

I will be at COMP on Wednesday, so I'm hoping that I can meet some of you. I will be in the MS-II room doing some work on my laptop. Come by and say hi...maybe we can go out to lunch or something.

Arnold

HI all. I'm starting to go crazy. My house looks like a maze. Don't walk around without the lights on....ouch.

Hope SAPP was good today.

Does anyone have a Washington Mutual checking account? Good, bad, indifferent about the bank?

VDUB--Do the apartments have the ability to have two phone lines per apartment? We need one for talking and one for computer/fax, etc.

No more questions right now.
Steph

HELP!!!! I have a friend who is in desparate need of a roommate at COMP! Her roommate that she had bailed out on her and she needs someone ASAP! Please email her: [email protected] if you need a roommate or know of someone that does.... She will be a first year Pharm student and is a super-great person! :D
We both thank you!!!!
Nothing new going on with me, except for that I saw Sonal and my place last week and am anxious to move in on August 4th---it's coming up!
I wish all you SAPPers good luck and if any of you have Tina as your TA, please tell her I said hello!!!!! She's the best!

Hey..what's up kids?

Made it through the 1st day of SAPP...and I am exhausted...I am a little out of the school loop...and sitting in a lecture hall all morning and part of the afternoon was hell...I kept nodding..as well as others around me....

The program seems like it is going to be good...we have a quiz every morning..and at the end..two days of lab practicals...good practice for the fall.....I'll keep ya all posted.....

Arnold...

I'll swing by and say hello on Weds...Just one question...where is the 2nd year lounge? I feel like a freshman all over again....

I am off to get a DESK tomm..and resume my coloring.....UUGGHHH!!!!

Slehrner[/B
I think it would be better to get a hyigh speed internet connection such as DSL or Cable. They wou;ld not tie up phone lines, two or more computers can surf the net at the same time much faster than say a dial up, Lectures or PDF files that are way big to download would download fast, and it could actually cost each person with their own dial up the same.

For example earthlink dial up is $21 a month vs earthlink DSL which is about $50/ by the two or more roomates= $25 a month...plus everything needed for the install is free...then some small expenses to network the multiple computers together.

SO
What does everyone think about failing SAPP?

Eric,

I was planning to do some work on my laptop around 10-10:30 am and going until about noon or 1. But I heard that the MS-II classroom won't be ready for internet hookups. I'll have to ask IT about that today or tomorrow.

By the way, the MS-II classroom is upstairs from the MS-I classroom.

Arnold

Well, since there are no hookups, I will be in the MS-I room instead. Hope to see some of you there!

And it was nice meeting some of you today. Sorry I didn't chat with you long, but we can make up for it tomorrow.

Arnold

Hmmm...
Thoughts on SAPP

If I had any less of a clue today..I would have been in another building...people seem to know this stuff...

I am gonna start studying tonight....I am just glad I got to see this now..

FYI:
Make sure you know the bones before the fall...because they expect us to know them...and you will need them for anatomy...I don't know them..and I already feel behind others....

Wish me luck...here's to 3 weeks in the OMM lab.....

Fellow SAPP-ers...

Study for tomm's 8am quiz...

Yosh- you are not the only one who thought they were in the wrong building! :)

After two hours of anatomy....I feel quite justified in checking my e-mail...

Welcome new SAPP person...although I am not sure quite who you are...we apparently were lost together today..

I appreciate your taking the time to commiserate!!!

Come and say hi tomm....

Hey Yosh...don't worry about it.

Just study as much as you can while you find your " swing" (what works for you the best!!!), so that way you just need to layer on the new stuff in the Fall

Does anyone know what time the library or study areas at school closes tomorrow?

Hey folks,
Sorry I haven't been posting for awhile. It's been encouraging to meet some of the SDN'ers I didn't get to meet before and chat with the ones that were able to make it out to D&B back awhile ago. If some of the ISAC'ers don't seem that talkative, it's probably because we are all prepping for that big exam on July 23rd (next Monday). Afterwards, we'll be a lot more relaxed.

wildpanda86- Lyzander, there are pretty much three places you can study.

1) The HPC building (where your classes are) closes at 6pm and usually isn't open during the weekends in the summer (they made those changes a few weeks ago on us).

2) You can study in the building where your labs are.. that is open till 9pm I believe. They have study rooms in the old library downstairs and you could go study in the computer lab upstairs as well. This building is open on weekends from 11am-7pm or something I think.

3) I think for the summer, the new library closes at around 8 or 9pm on weekdays. I forget about the weekends, but you can easily ask any security guard about the hours.

You're right about finding a "swing" that works in terms of studying habits and paces. That was something I had to get used to fast.. I'm still working on it, but I think it is coming along. We'll see how the last exam turns out.

Teloola- hey SAPPer. How did you end up hearing about SDN? Maybe we should advertise for SDN somewhere on campus like the computer lab.. heh.

Yosh- Hey John.. just keep up with the class and you should be fine. There are definitely some people who have more previous anatomy experience going in... try to use their experience to your advantage!

Aecuenca- Hey Arnold.. ok, I finally remembered your face from OMAC and then I find you in lab today.. awesome! I will try to stop by tomorrow and chat.

Smiles- I don't know of anyone who is currently looking for a roommate.. sorry. You might want to try and e-mail Shannon (baileydo) at [email protected]. There might be a chance she hasn't decided on an apartment yet. Is Sonal doing SAPP btw? If she is, I wonder if anyone else on here has met her yet. So you'll be here Aug 4th? Awesome.

Slehrner- Hey Steph, yeah.. my apartment still has random boxes lying around that I will stub toes and kneecaps on when I walk around in the dark. I have been tripping over some anatomy books recently too. I'll have to clean up once ISAC is over. I don't remember much about Washington Mutual except I think the checking acct is free. I have Wells Fargo which is pretty convenient although I have to pay ~$5 monthly fee, but haven't had any problems with them really.

I think you can pay to have another phone line installed in your apartment, but wildpanda86 is right in that if you split the cost of DSL or cable internet per month (about $40-$50), it'll probably be close to the same as getting a second phone line in terms of cost and you get faster internet access as well.

Is anyone thinking of going to Vegas sometime?

-- I just had a tip from a friend at Pomona College. If you're looking for furniture, you might want to try one of the numerous thrift shops located in Pomona. I've heard of some good deals.. I will be checking them out in the next few days hopefully.

Halcyon- Hey, I met Divakar today and he is the same one my lab partner knows.. what a coincidence. We exchanged phone numbers and all.. all's good. Hope you are resting up before you drive up here for a few days.

--Opps.. I forgot to mention that I had done a little research on finding rock climbing gyms in the area. In addition to having a rock climbing gym in the Claremont Colleges somewhere, there is one called Hangar 51 located in Upland so it shouldn't be more than 15 minutes. Just thought I'd throw that in in case anyone is interested. I'd also like to try out racquetball sometime.. probably best to go in the mornings to the YMCA/LA Fitness or after 9pm at LA Fitness since there are still quite a few people around then.

Alright think that's enough for this post!

IF ANYONE IS COMING TO VEGAS THEY BETTER COME SOON. I LEAVE IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS.
(or you can stay with my mom)

Off to stumble into boxes.
Steph

Lanny - thats cool you met Divi. kinda funny how everyone knows one another in indirect ways w/o knowing it :D (i think that makes sense) i gotta call him today to see how sapp is going. as for me...i have this wedding ceremony thing i gotta go to on the 26th. and so i prolly won't be up in plaza till evening on the 27th. but from then on i'll be up in pomona. gotta go buy a few more things for our place...

i'll see all of you in a little over a week.
take care

prit

there's so much happening, and school hasn't even started. i wonder how many of our fellow classmates know about this forum? anyways this month is so empty that im bored from all this vacationing... dang this weekend im going to palm springs... to another waterpark... again. what a hard life. :D :p

Have fun now.....school is seeming like intensity will be a key "motif"...lots of stuff...

I am off to class now...and fell asleep at 9:30 last nite...No studying!!!

Nice eh? I am gonna bomb the quiz...

Good luck SAPPer's, hope your quiz went ok.
Hope the ISAAC people are hanging in there too.

Question: Since we have covered golf and raquetball, does anybody ski? I'm trying to figure out if I should bring my ski's, at this rate it looks as though I'm bringing more stuff to have fun with than stuff to enhance my medical education. ;)

Hey SammyK- You probably could just bring your skis as long as you'll have room to store them somewhere. Being in Pomona, we are relative close to a number of things such as Las Vegas (3-4 hours) and mountains to ski in which aren't more than 2 hours away and maybe less depending on traffic. There will be PLENTY of distractions now that you will be living in California.. hehe.

It's finally the weekend.....YAHOO!!!

What does this mean?

Drinks? Loose Women? Smoke filled bars?

Hm...how about...the upper forearm's origins and inervations...the superficial transeverse perrineum anyone??

This crap is FINALLY starting to make sense....so I will study tonight....

and tomm...STUDY GROUP!!!

Is it July? I know I am not spending my summer before med school...in on a Friday nite studying???

Hmm....Can't wait till Saturday nite...I'll be at the "local watering hole"...pitching lines to locals and whoever else will listen(if need be)..

Any of you that have been to Pomona....you know that IT IS A WATERING HOLE!!!!

Have a GREAT weekend..eat drink and be merry..for August 13...we shall all die..

(at least socially)

Enjoy!!!

It's been such a long time since I last posted anything on this forum. :D

Took me over 2 weeks to settled down at my new place. (I'm still trying to finish up my wooden floor.)

It was really nice seeing you again, Rob and Lyzander. Hope to see all the others I met at D&B and other new faces I haven't seen yet.

Good luck all the ISAC'ers and SAPP'ers!

Don't forget me when school starts and my anatomy knowledge proves to be "nada". :D

hey fellow sappers, what are the assigned coloring book pages for next week, thanks
see ya
faiz

Hey Faz,
I see you have misplaced the syllabus! Plates 63-81 (cardio sys) and 130-153 (nervous sys). Don't forget 91-94 too!
Happy coloring!

Arnold,
Your postings are great! It's helpful to see what's to come... THANKS!

Anyone know about the Natinal Health Service Corp Scholarship...? Like how much do we get? I applied and have yet to hear...

Thanks!

Hey Docmartin- I guess you're in SAPP too? Have I met you yet? It's been kind of awkward trying to meet some of the other SAPP'ers who aren't on SDN because our lunch breaks don't always coincide and with the last Monday exam coming up, things are sorta hectic. I hope to hang out with you guys after this is all over as I know a couple ISAC'ers are going back home for a week or so.. and I'll still be here in Pomona. :/

Hey Melancholy,
Actually, I don't think i have met you yet...but I have heard your screen name from Yosh...I am a sap..err...SAPP'er...Honestly, I have been pretty busy with reviewing, moving, sleeping, and coloring...How is ISAC going? I really wanted to do that program, but never heard from the coordinator..were you guys "hand picked"? An elite group, I suppose :p Anyway, good luck on your exam manana!

DocMartin
Not that I don't LOVE to see my name up in writing, but I dunno that I even know who you are???

Hmmm...how's about a "little" hint???

DocMartin- I guess I am just as confused as Yosh is on this. Well, there aren't more than 20-25 people in SAPP so this shouldn't be too hard to figure out who you are.. right John?

As for ISAC, I think quite a few people were sent ISAC applications.. I think there were a lot more who were qualified to take the course, but in the end, it came down to whether or not you had the 6 weeks to spare. A lot of people still have things like work, families, moving, etc. to deal with. I'm sure the course instructor would've loved more ISAC'ers since that would hopefully increase the number of facilitators.. and that is good for our entire class as a whole I think.

As for me, I will definitely be glad to help out whoever I can in anatomy. I probably won't be making the cut as a facilitator, but that doesn't mean I can't help out outside of class or in lab as well.

I'm glad to see we are all making friends. I can't wait to put faces and voices with names.

Packing is a pain in the ass...my stepmother is a complete crazy woman. She tried to take 3/4 of my kitchen supplies.

I can't wait to see you all. The count down has begun 10 days til pomona.
steph

my count-down has begun as well...my precious car left on a train for pomona yesterday and as of august 2, yosh won't be the only new yawker to spice up your lives.

as for my summer, i decided to cop out of the summer programs, but i don't mind sitting around and watching all four rounds of the british open in its entirety. just getting my fill of tv time before Monday the 13th.

peace yo.
