Hey folks,
Sorry I haven't been posting for awhile. It's been encouraging to meet some of the SDN'ers I didn't get to meet before and chat with the ones that were able to make it out to D&B back awhile ago. If some of the ISAC'ers don't seem that talkative, it's probably because we are all prepping for that big exam on July 23rd (next Monday). Afterwards, we'll be a lot more relaxed.
wildpanda86- Lyzander, there are pretty much three places you can study.
1) The HPC building (where your classes are) closes at 6pm and usually isn't open during the weekends in the summer (they made those changes a few weeks ago on us).
2) You can study in the building where your labs are.. that is open till 9pm I believe. They have study rooms in the old library downstairs and you could go study in the computer lab upstairs as well. This building is open on weekends from 11am-7pm or something I think.
3) I think for the summer, the new library closes at around 8 or 9pm on weekdays. I forget about the weekends, but you can easily ask any security guard about the hours.
You're right about finding a "swing" that works in terms of studying habits and paces. That was something I had to get used to fast.. I'm still working on it, but I think it is coming along. We'll see how the last exam turns out.
Teloola- hey SAPPer. How did you end up hearing about SDN? Maybe we should advertise for SDN somewhere on campus like the computer lab.. heh.
Yosh- Hey John.. just keep up with the class and you should be fine. There are definitely some people who have more previous anatomy experience going in... try to use their experience to your advantage!
Aecuenca- Hey Arnold.. ok, I finally remembered your face from OMAC and then I find you in lab today.. awesome! I will try to stop by tomorrow and chat.
Smiles- I don't know of anyone who is currently looking for a roommate.. sorry. You might want to try and e-mail Shannon (
baileydo) at
[email protected]. There might be a chance she hasn't decided on an apartment yet. Is Sonal doing SAPP btw? If she is, I wonder if anyone else on here has met her yet. So you'll be here Aug 4th? Awesome.
Slehrner- Hey Steph, yeah.. my apartment still has random boxes lying around that I will stub toes and kneecaps on when I walk around in the dark. I have been tripping over some anatomy books recently too. I'll have to clean up once ISAC is over. I don't remember much about Washington Mutual except I think the checking acct is free. I have Wells Fargo which is pretty convenient although I have to pay ~$5 monthly fee, but haven't had any problems with them really.
I think you can pay to have another phone line installed in your apartment, but
wildpanda86 is right in that if you split the cost of DSL or cable internet per month (about $40-$50), it'll probably be close to the same as getting a second phone line in terms of cost and you get faster internet access as well.
Is anyone thinking of going to Vegas sometime?
-- I just had a tip from a friend at Pomona College. If you're looking for furniture, you might want to try one of the numerous thrift shops located in Pomona. I've heard of some good deals.. I will be checking them out in the next few days hopefully.
Halcyon- Hey, I met Divakar today and he is the same one my lab partner knows.. what a coincidence. We exchanged phone numbers and all.. all's good. Hope you are resting up before you drive up here for a few days.
--Opps.. I forgot to mention that I had done a little research on finding rock climbing gyms in the area. In addition to having a rock climbing gym in the Claremont Colleges somewhere, there is one called Hangar 51 located in Upland so it shouldn't be more than 15 minutes. Just thought I'd throw that in in case anyone is interested. I'd also like to try out racquetball sometime.. probably best to go in the mornings to the YMCA/LA Fitness or after 9pm at LA Fitness since there are still quite a few people around then.
Alright think that's enough for this post!
