Hmm.. any opinions on that biochem review session? Definitely good intentions, but not as organized as it could've been and a lot of questionables that just made things more confusing and frustrating for so many people. Even though it is difficult, such reviews are better accomplished in smaller groups.

I think the intention was good...but DISORGANIZED.....and too many people...

Maybe the next one will be better????

Next one??

Lanny...looks like just me and you on this board these days....

Remember this tutor thing is one of many new things at westernu.

The handout was good though.

Well it is time for a boring day of class with too many breaks in it.

Everyone enjoy their weekend. Don't study all of it.

Steph

Yosh,

You're not alone. We're still here. So, where's the party this weekend? You guys helping out at OMAC? I think I'm gonna hit up the lab this weekend and start the brachial plexus dissection. You down for that Melancholy?

-Rob

Hey Rob,
I'll try to wake up so I can head down to the lab Saturday morning.. if I don't make it in time, George Wang (the facilitator) will be there from at least 10-12 and he seriously knows all his stuff. I have to review my materials because I don't remember a whole lot about the brachial plexus.. once you find it, it's easy to clean it out. My best guess would be to look at Netter and Grant's dissector for instructions on how to get down to the plexus.

I know Yosh is helping out with the OMM licensing thing tomorrow.. Jay is going to help out with OMAC.. not sure who else. Wait.. are you going into the lab and then straight to OMAC?

im not havin fun no more

anyways, whats this omm liscencing thing??
ill be in HPC n the mornin too, so let me know whats goin on. 2 of my boys will be coming to OMAC cuz they are applying, tom and george, so take care of em 🙂

anywyas, im down for whatever tomm..

Hope you all had a great weekend. I know I did....(oh and I did a little studying).

See you all bright and early monday morning.

Steph

Hey all,

For all those who went to the Off-Campus last night, that was a good time, and I'm glad there are some photographs to capture those Kodak moments. Although I must say, Yosh lost some huge credibility in his campaign for rec. chair with all the talk about setting stuff up and getting all silly, and then bailing on us.
I still am trying to figure out what was in the Adios.
All I can say is bless the bars with no cover.

I am applying to Western/COMP and I wanted to get your reasons for chosing COMP. Do you know what the COMPLEX pass rate is? Thanks. (It seems like you all can study hard and play hard at COMP :cool 🙂

Hey Gator,

Here are a few but not all of the reasons why I chose COMP as my first choice school:
1. location, I'm an LA local, and there's no better place to live/party/study than in beautiful Southern Cali, even though it is in Pomona which is still way safer than ghetto town USC Med
2. the osteopathic 5th year fellow opportunity: COMP is one of the few osteo schools that conducts research in OMM
3. rotation sites: 3rd year students mainly rotate in S. Cali in large and small hospitals, 4th year students have the flexibility to choose any rotation sites in the US, with the approval of the preceptor of course
4. the relaxed and friendly attitudes of my colleagues...just check this thread and you can see how relaxed some of us really get

COMLEX: don't know exact numbers, I will try to get and post them on Monday.

As far as being 'relaxed', I think that term is misleading to the undergrad mind. Medschool is grueling and most people are very serious about it... take being in Gross Anatomy Lab on a Sunday morning, review session afterwards, and then more review of Embryo, Micro, etc. It's a real challenge, but people are generally cool and umm... 'relaxed' about it.

Just dont try doing this while moving into a new apartment. YIKES!!

COMP also has great rotations in So.Cal and out of state. Our student body has alumns of some well known and prestigious universities... (this one for example www.lasierra.edu ) and great residency placements. Hope that helps.

hey everyone...

ok first, i have a slight bias here...but my definition of southern cali is SD 😀 this is central cali and its HOT! anyways yeah we are in biochem...so i'm payin lots of attention. oh and i'm still around on this board.

Hey Everyone! "Tex" here. I particularly like COMP because compared to students at other med schools that I have talked to, COMP students really seem well rounded with a lot of interesting backgrounds and life experiences. Many students here, including myself, come from previous backgrounds in the health care industry. Everyone I have met at this school has an interesting history and it seems as though everyone gets along. I also like the high-tech features of our school, the numerous clinical opportunities, and the many things to do in the Southern CA area.

By the way, any COMP students here like to play raquetball(at a relatively competitive level)? I am looking for someone to play raquetball with once a week(exam permitting) at LA Fitness? If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Well we are into our third week. How is everyone doing? Life is good for me. I have to say organization and time management are helping me get everything done.

For those wanting to go to COMP,
1. The people that go to COMP have very unique backrounds (ethnic, work, religious) which helps people learn in and out of the classroom.
2. The support system between students is great. We study together and party together. The second years are also a good source.

Well off to listen to class.
Steph

COMLEX I pass rate for my class is around 95% (first time taker, June 2000).

If you think Pomona is hot, try living in the San Fernando Valley! I am dying out here doing IM in Woodland Hill--the weather, not the rotation.

Thanks for all the responses. I like everything I have read so far about Western/COMP.

Kirk- what time are you thinking about doing racquetball? I haven't played yet still but I have an extremely vague idea of the rules.. do you have an extra racquet or should I go grab one at Sports Chalet for 15 bucks? Probably best time to go is before rush hour (if we get out early on a day we don't have lab) or a bit later in the evening.. around 8 or 9ish. Sometimes the waiting lists for those courts can be long depending on what LA Fitness it is.

I'm still wondering about organizing/playing basketball. A few guys were playing at Memorial Park (where our picnic was) in Claremont today...

kirk im down to play, only if i can use my tennis raquet

Melancholy - I don't have an extra raquet, but you can probably get 'em pretty cheap at Sports Chalet or something. I would be interested in playing whenever, right after lab or on a weekend or something.

VDUB - If you want to meet sometime at our apt's tennis court to smack the fuzzy yellow ball back and forth, that would work too. I am better at tennis than I am at raquetball.

Let me know what works for you guys. Back to the books..........

Kirk- I used to play a bit of tennis and some ping-pong so I figure racquetball will be good fun. I'll try to pick up a racquet in the next couple of days.. do you wear eye protection?

Nope...probably should..but then I don't wear 'em in anatomy lab either...heh heh.

A word to the wise....always protect the eyes...

I know many a woman that was never the same after battling the evil "Pirate's Eye"

Becareful out there...and ALWAYS wear protection...even if it SEEMS safe!!!

Hey folks..
just wanted to hope you're all still in the thick of things. I commented to Smiles today on how she doesn't post anymore. Wow.. no one's posted on this in awhile, huh? Well, you can tell I don't have much to talk about. Hope everyone takes a few study breaks during the long weekend.. so we can make the big push for "Black Monday" in a week and a half. See some of you guys at the bbq tonight..

Melancholy - What BBQ?

It's a little late because that bbq is from 6-9pm tonight (Friday), but it is hosted by Dr. Wong for the Asian American Health Professions Association or something at his residence in Diamond Bar.

Just got done playing lacrosse with Jay though.. what a great workout. Time to take a shower and head on over for the food!

How hot is this robert castillo guy? my friend went to omac and met him and she said that he is one of the cutest med students she has ever met!

I think Rob will be printing out this page and posting it up on Blackboard pretty soon 😛... heh I can see where this is going. Rob is definitely an outgoing, friendly, and cool guy who likes to stay involved with school activities. I guess we should have him speak at more conferences, huh?

OOOOhhhh robb has a special admirer.... how sweet....the cutest guy in the class, i dontknow about that, i think i take precedence over him...

KOstar you should have seen him during OMM rippin off his shirt for all to see

lol

why don't we hear from the infamous RobbC himself? 😀

big time embryo final coming up!! study hard, party hard. enjoy labor day weekend.

peace!
~j

hahah...ok good luck on your test kids!
If you guys want a break...my friend is throwing a labor day party at the century club in LA tonight...you guys are all welcome to come, especially rob 😉

Why thanks for the invite KoStar, but unfortunately it seems we're gonna be a bit busy these next few days, weeks, months, years, etc. I'm sure we'll find time somehow...we always do.

On a second note, I'll have to agree that VDUB takes precedence over me. He's one of those guys in touch with his feminine side too...he loves listening to Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. So who's your friend anyway...just curious.

Oh yes, I remember the Century Club...used to be one the cool hangout spots up until we all started med school. Oh, those were definitely the days.

So how about those brachial arches, or was it branchial plexus, whatever...just screwing with your minds. 😀 😎

robb you bastard,,... why are u making me look bad.... get it right, its NSYNC i like...

comon now, everyone says i look like chris and joey...

oh **** i know there names

Ummm Rob...I cant really tell you her name...she would kick my ass...she doesnt even know that I posted this up for the entire premed community to see!!! But if you were to guess... 😉

Carefull with RobbC ladies, you know what they say:

"Once you go Filipino..........you become a nympho"

Just playing, good luck with the first test and stay sane cause i think i'm losing it.
And also anybody gain that 10 extra pounds already beside me????????

Rob is quite the ladies man...He had all the Koreans after him at dinner on Sat nite...free Kim Chee for all of us...good lookin'out!!!

I am off to do more Embryo, geez for one credit...they are sure getting their money's worth..

Who is this "Puppy Luv"?

hmmm???

sure i continue w/ more embryo or go to more rewarding(?) gross anatomy?

way to go w/ the ladies rob!!! you THE MAN!

good luck to all of you on tom's final!!

Hey folks,
Stay cool with the exam tomorrow.. just get some sleep and take your time with the exam.. you have more than enough time to go over strange questions and take a nap. Conserve your energy for the rest of the day including micro lab for some of us and anatomy lab. Let's all rest up before Black Monday is upon us next week..

Who knew OMAC would have been a version of the Dating Game? Robb, I'm jealous. Apparently we gave different tours...

I think SammyK set the precidence at the 2nd year party that Friday, a few weeks back...she seems to have gotten herself some prime meat..but that is only what I heard.

She was the "talk" of that nite....She showed RobbC the way apparently...

Rumor has it that she had the guy wearing her hat and everything!!!

🙄 (NY Eye Roll) 🙄

How was that little gathering at "Characters" yesterday? (Tuesday) Sorry I didn't make it.. I probably should've stopped by for a nightcap before I went to study for the night. At any rate, we get two hours of OMM today plus a surface anatomy lecture.. woohoo!

yea RobbC is good lookin, i hate him. i think its the hair. its very N'Sync. lol, jk Rob, you tha man.

that OMM was good learning experience, but i dint much like the surface anatomy cutting into my dissection time. I wanted to find that Posterior Interosseus N. and get a gold star sticker!! phoooey! 😛

Hmm...Black Monday is approaching....one test down and two more this Monday...oh the pain....it hurts so bad....

The gross practical went well....happily...so we'll see what happenes...as it seems no one had any time to visit here anymore..

Good luck on Biochem and Histo(uuggh)

Just keeping us up there.. study hard and party hard Monday night!

Luck folks..

mmmm...monday night...

~pyo

Oh yeah.. just wanted to give a shout out to all of you who are getting involved with our class, clubs, and everything else (unlike me.. heh). Of particular (and humorous) notice are SammyK and Pyoj who were mysteriously "appointed" to do such things as be in charge of voting for class officers and keeping the class informed of the progress of our MS-II CD's. Other shout outs to our numerous reps for class officers and the rest of us who have been supporting them the rest of the way.

Ok just wanted to get that goody-goody stuff out of my head.. time to study again. 😛

Who is practicing OMM these days? I have been practicing with one other person right now and it really helps to practice OMM as a "study break" with other people. I even tried to practicing translating my cervical vertebrae while waiting at the grocery store... good stuff.

How glad I will be when Black Monday is over. Not that it really is such a relief with anatomy coming up.
Lanny- I completely understand about the translating vertebrae in the grocery store. My roommate is wondering when I will be able to start diagnosing her back pain. I told her my receptionist would get back to her.

Incidentally, has anyone figured out or met TNT aka Doc Dynomite??

I know it's probably pretty late to be checking this if you're an MS-I, but I just wanted to wish you guys good luck tomorrow. It's going to be a long day. But hang in there, and just remember all the classes before you have gone through the same thing. The good thing is that Merkel & May are both pretty straightforward from the notes and try not to pull any punches. So kick some ass on these tests tomorrow and be ready for Anatomy next week..... Eric
