Lanny--
This is sad but I still have no idea who you are. I musta drifted off to sleep for a moment at the time you said your name and got coated. I did, however, get to meet a lot of other people who post on here. I also met a lot of the ISACers and they seem like a pretty cool bunch of folks--after all, they're gonna be helpin my strugglin butt in anatomy.

Everyone in our class that I've met seems pretty nice and approachable, so I'm pretty happy about the class of 2005. Then again, everyone's prolly on their best behavior since everything is still new.

Blast off is manana! Put on your helmets and stunt gear.

Peace

I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK to all the MSIs starting out tomorrow. I've enjoyed reading all the posts and remembering the excitement and anticipation of starting my first year. As a fourth year applying for internships, I am starting to get some of the same feelings I had when I was applying for med school. I really had hoped that that stuff was behind me, but it's not. Just remember that, although I agree that the environment is not cutthroat like it was in pre-med, you still need to work hard, because you want to put yourself in a competitive position 3 years from now. The best way to do that is to help each other out. There are always people who have more knowledge in a particular subject. Use their knowledge, and don't be afraid to share your own. Remember that there are enough internships in the AOA and AMA for everyone, so it's not like you are competing for limited slots. You have nothing to gain by shooting a fellow student down. It's going to be some of the toughest years of your life, so help each other out, and you will make it with flying colors!

Best of Luck!!

Brian

(ps if you have questions you can e-mail me at [email protected])

Brian,
Thanks for those encouraging words. I had all those thoughts in my mind that's you've just mentioned. Our class so far seems pretty cool, and I'm sure we'll be helping each other out.

Well, I couldn't sleep, so I figured I would post a couple of things...

VDUBPOWER - or anyone else wanting to go see American Pie II...I am interested, haven't seen it yet....but I did see Kiss of the Dragon this weekend with Jet Li....VERY good movie....all the blood and gore really gets you excited about Gross Anatomy...just kidding....heh heh.

BEACH TRIP! - Anyone interested in a trip to Huntington Beach this weekend, let me know. I would like to get some people together to have some fun at the beach Saturday(to kind of celebrate completing our first week), (like we need a reason though). I would like to get there kind of early on Saturday(not too early), so that we can get a good spot with enough room for everyone...let's bring the ice chests, volleyball, boogie boards, surfboards, whatever, and spend the day in the sun! If interested, post a reply or drop me an e-mail and we'll get a list started. See everyone in the morning...(yawn)

1:30 in the AM

Few Hours till our lives change,

stifler rulzzzzzz

see u in the morning

can u dig it

Nice Job fuzz...

I am pondering the weekend...might be studying..we'll see

Hey..
I love this intro. to gross anatomy lecture... can't you tell by the time I am posting this? 🙂

Anyway, that trip to the beach sounds like a good deal. We could probably go mid-afternoon.. so we can catch a few hours of sun but not get too burnt.. and then relax later with a little bonfire action. This could turn out to be promising if we get the word out early and plan ahead of time a bit.

Anyway, I am sitting here watching jb023 aka John Yasmer wait for his SDN web page to load up. Hopefully, IT and the bookstore won't be a horrendously long wait because it'd be nice to get out of school relatively early today to do a few things before the ice cream social. You guys/gals all coming?

Thanks for the software Rob !

Lanny's already helping this one student in anatomy. Way to go Lanny! Keep at it!

Well, the first day is over and it was rather innocuous. The quiet before the storm I suppose. Also, I've met more cool and helpful people... we have a good group.

Beach trip sounds nice... voleyball, relaxin, umm... networking. Gotta run and learn some embryo and gross. 😎

BEACH TRIP INFO: Anyone who wants to go to Huntington Beach Saturday meet at Steph and Vince's apt around 9:30am so we can get there early enough to find a good spot. We are going to get a spot around the pier at Huntington Beach on the North side of the pier so that we are close to the volleyball courts. Bring ice chests, boogie boards, sunscreen, etc. for a day at the beach. If interested, e-mail me or Steph or call Steph at 909-489-0123 or me at 909-994-0243.

If 9:30 is a little early for you, then call us and we will let you know where we are at specifically on the beach and you can just meet up with us. Hope to hear from you!

Also, anyone who wants to go see American Pie II Fri night, we are trying to get some people together for that. Show starts around 7:00pm and afterwards you can come over to our apt to hangout. BYOB.

I had a chance to skin the cadaver today. Woo hoo!!!

Lukily, Lanny's in my table. 😀

Thanks for helping out Lanny!

Gotta go home and have me some real meat.

9:30am for the beach? Wow.. I wasn't planning on going till a bit later (perhaps mid-afternoon). How late are you planning on staying at the beach? I figured some people might feel better if they got some studying done Saturday morning/afternoon before they headed over to the beach... just a thought. I guess you could study after the beach, but that would be studying on Saturday night too!

Hey guys/gals,

You know this little quiz on the net for anatomy, is it really worth any pionts, or is it optional? I figure when most people are falling behind later on, they won't do the quiz. what do you think?

The school really expects alot from us, or should I say highly of us. It's not graded but he checks to see if we've been doing them when it comes down to knowing why some of us are not passing...then he can use it as a possible reason on why some of us are not passing.

TNT- hey dude.. have you met any SDN'ers yet? I forgot about trying to find you because you haven't posted the last few days.. opps! You'll have to find some of us so we can meet up during a break or something.

The quizzes aren't worth anything, but they seem to be a good way to motivate people to do minimal review for the lecture material the day/night before the actual lecture. Dr. Younoszai is experimenting with these quizzes.. so he looks at them and gets a feeling for how much people understand certain areas.. and what areas he needs to clarify more on during his lectures. I think it also gives him an idea of what % of the class keeps up and how they are doing with the material. He does know who submits what, but it's not a big deal.

Opps.. just wrote what RobbC wrote. That could also be something he might consider using the quizzes for.. in case you're borderline passing, it could be another indicator of your progress and how hard you are trying to keep up with the course. Of course, I know that all of us here will do just fine in the anatomy course though.. we have a good support group I think!

Well, shoot.. I took a nap after lab and it's already 2:15am so I'd better get some rest so I can get up and grab a seat tomorrow. I've had this painful ear infection to deal with the last few days so headaches are pretty common for me right now. Sleep seems to help though. 🙂

Kirk- Nice job with the e-mail to everyone regarding the Huntington Beach outing. I wonder if we can put a little plug in for SDN sooner or later ;D.

Is anyone considering going to that med student dinner at the Marriott in downtown LA?

Hey Melancholy - I RSVP'd already for that dinner in LA, and Yosh is planning on going too.

Hey!

I met some new ladies who seemed QUITE excited to meet the infamous YOSH!!!
Apparently they no longer peruse the site..but I will get them back..I WILL!!!

Deep back lecture starting...so I gotta learn...I don't want to "barely" pass...with the "C"..as he lectured about earlier

Actually, I met a few girls who were briefly on SDN who just _had_ to meet the infamous Yosh too...

Hi everyone, I wanted to gauge peoples impression on the Superficial Back Dissection. ...any thoughts, comments, rants, raves?

fat is annoying, 'nuf said...

~pyo

In other words...

fat=~PHAT....(Pretty Hot and Tempting)

but when is it ever????

Hmm....becuase I shouldn't be studying right now?

Yeah, fat is annoying but just a fact of life in anatomy lab. One of the ISAC'ers had a ton of experience dissecting and TA'ing in anatomy and spent most of his time in ISAC trying to pick out fat because he had a big cadaver. The main thing is just try to do the best you can under the circumstances.. the profs and facilitators know how much more time it takes to dissect when you have fat all over the place.. it's harder to identify things deeper in the cadaver! I can suggest finding some innovative methods of scraping or picking off fat.. and you can always grab paper towels to soak up some of the mess after it melts some.

Just remember that if you are going to reflect or take something out in the future and it still has fat on it, unless you want to make it look really pretty, don't worry about spending time to take out that fat. Move on to more important things.

Anyway, it's nice and quiet in the MS-I lecture hall at 9:30pm tonight.. I think I'll get some studying done tonight.

Melancholy,

I don't beleive we've met. I actually am just doing my own thing most of the time. I didn't go to the school pic-nic, so most people formed their own cliques before I got there. Now that name badges were taken away, its hard to meet anyone.

TNT- If you look around for me today (Friday), I'm an Asian looking guy with a black t-shirt and khaki shorts wearing the old school ID tag (it's white, not the credit-card one you guys have).

This is for my "lady" friend whom I spoke with this afternoon...when you read this...let me know..

As a MINOR correction...appaerntly one of my "new" lady-friends had an issue about what I wrote...and then tried to tell me that Yoda Pagoda was gonna defend her..

Can we say..."The blind leading the naked??"

Ok new ladyfriend....Yoda is ALLA YOURS!!!

The papers are in the mail...

Best of luck...

To all you "regular" SDN-ers...these ladies don't post...they just read...so I have been informed...

What do we think about this??

I say War at the Keg tonight!!!

First person that can't remember their name WINS...

Everyone...EXCEPT Steph Hurl(aka Quid Pro Quo)

Ask her...."Who got the keys to the Beamer??"

Haha.. I know I'll get some weird looks for posting right after coming back from the MS-II party tonight.. but... ooh.. I'll just have to leave the details for later. Monday morning should be interesting for sure. 🙂

On with the beach for tomorrow!

I gotta reiterate how cool everyone is in our class. I got to meet a lot more new MS1's at the party and we got some people that would make good class officers. The MS2's also seem like a really good bunch of people. Whatever we do, we gotta make sure that when we become MS2's we make at least a good impression on the MS1's of next year as the MS2's of this year have made on us. Don't you all agree?

all i know is i will never view a few of the peeps in the same way again after last night 😀

prit

Prit,
what are your trying to say? would you like to elaborate? I liked how Mr. Yoda jumped in the jaccuzi in his tighty-whities. We'll see what everyone says come Monday.

Prolixless,
I agree w/ you 100%. I actually think we should do something for our 2nd years. Maybe we can come up with something. Until then...

-Rob

I agree with Prit.. I saw some things that will slightly change how I view some people... *smirk*.

It's all good tho. People were just lettin loose. Med school is about to bust our ass (in fact it's already startin to bust my ass) so I can understand seein our classmates doin some off-the-wall stuff. It's all in good fun.

Wow, now I wish I had gone to the party...hmmm, hope I hear more details soon...

For all you second years who read this forum, and we know you do, thank you for a great party on Friday and thank you for the mounds of paper you gave all us 1st years. It will be very useful.

I also want to thank all the 1st years for making the last few weeks great. Lets have a great year with lots of studying and enough partying!!!

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend (I know I did) and see you all this week.

🙂 😉
Steph

I thought the party was GREAT!!! Met a of interesting people....and had a good time....

Keep on smirking!!!!!

I kicked in $10 for that last keg!! Because I needed MORE beer???

I will most definitely keep on smirking! Anyway, it was enjoyable sitting in for the ACOFP lunch intro today.. esp. with all the free goodies. I was reading my Western U email today and noticing all the various upcoming events with free food for dinners/lunches. It was funny how in each bulletin, the word free would show up in bold face. 🙂 Anyway, I guess this will save some money on food for me.. I won't always have to scavenge for food every afternoon or night.

Well, at least we only have 1.5 more lectures left today (Monday).. we'll have a good ol' time in gross lab the next couple of afternoon. Remember to ask if you need any help!

Ok time to get back to Younoszai.. I was going to do the vertebral online quiz during the lecture, but it seemed like a lot of work so I will forego that quiz today.. heh.

hey if anyone reads this tonight....do we have omm in the lecture hall or the omm room? my bet is on the omm room.

Steph

that's my guess.
~j.p.o.

I'll be dressed for tomorrow regardless of where class is.. nice and casual 🙂. Wow.. we're doing landmarks tomorrow.. how exciting!

Hey.. did everyone have a fun experience with OMM/landmarks today? Any strange experiences y'all wanted to share with the rest of us?

This really seems to be slowing down...since school has begun....inevitable...but alas....all good things must come to an end...even the not so good things...

I am off to once again ponder Anatomy..how I long for the days when thinking about how much L.A. sucked was my most profound thought...carefree days of Boba Tea...sunning by the pool..and long nites..that ending at 1am...ya know...LAST CALL!!!

Later..

OMM was cool...there were 2 guys ans two girls in my group..and the girls paired up...leaving me and the other guy...

Hmm...There certainly need to be some adjustments made.....

We'll see what happens....

OMM was cool....

Yosh,

Always thinking about those angles!!! Happy OMM!

SL

I think I will want to do a lot of practice on different people.. considering how much everyone stresses practicing OMM (including many MS-II's I talked to) and them stressing it during the lecture, I'd like to develop my skills as much as possible... take advantage of the opportunities we get as DO's at this school.

So where ARE those angles? ;p

Yosh,

Don't worry you aren't the only one... I've always had a male partner since I've been here. There were times when my whole group was male (including my TA & fellow), talk about sausage party! LOL So you aren't the only one...... Eric

what are you guys doing!!!!! get back to studying!!!! 😀

is it just me or did nerves, arteries, veins, etc of the upper limb just blow right by you?

mmmmmm...beeeeer...
~pyo

Eric,
Nice to see you back around....I am glad to see the MS2's still interested in what is going on....
That was one hell of a party you guys threw....I had a good time...and from the pictures I saw....they do indeed confirm that good time...

Tomm is elections...so lets all get out to the polls and vote..!!!

Remember the great speech from today?

Never mind the "photos" that were shown during my speech....all propaganda....I tell you!!!!

Better to Party Hardy....rather than Hardly Party!!

Till tomm...
