I have yet to meet the Doc O' Dynamite....

Eric...Once again good lookin' out for us....

We need to get some people together and get a little drinkin' going after Anat...not all of us 1st years are are cutthroat and crazy..

Some just like to get RIPPED and ****-canned...

Lets see what we can organize...

Estas listo?? Ya me voy!

I didn't think people in our class knew how to get ripped up, oh wait, I do remember a party a while I ago, I think....

Hope today went alright for everyone. I'm glad those two are done, now its time to spend some quality time in the gross lab.

I see dead people.

Hey, guys!

Aren't we all glad those exams are over!

Just have to deal w/ the anatomy now.

I want your opinion on something. What do you guys think about our school not having a cafeteria?

I've come from a big campus undergrad where we had tons and tons of food choices to choose from.

I'm not trying to complain or anything like that, but it'll be really nice to have some Panda Express, King Taco, or something like that as I had back at my college.

Man's gotta eat, right? 😀

I was really feeling it today (well.. technically yesterday) during lectures.. I guess the fact that we had access to the internet and all the news sources didn't help either. I don't know how many of you were affected by the tragedies, but I know we will support each other however we can and get through this. I haven't kept in touch with a lot of college friends and I am sure some of them were working in the financial district.. hopefully not too close to the WTC. I'm still trying to get in touch with some friends who are doing rotations around NYC.. especially some NYU students who might even be doing a rotation at Bellevue Hospital, one of the main sites for injured victims.

On another note, I had the chance to go to one of the sponsored OMM workshops today and it was very interesting and great practice. The topic was on functional technique, which supposedly isn't in the curriculum, but it seemed very practical and something I could apply right away. Dr. Seffinger (who I hadn't previously met) is a very nice and interesting guy who seems to have a passion for OMM. It was somewhat inspiring watching him treat some of the second year students who went to the workshop. At any rate, I guess the point is in the future, I think it would be a great opportunity to go. I know the next one is this coming Monday which is unfortunately the same day as our anatomy exam, but there will be more in the future. There were not many people there today and that made it even more valuable as we had more interaction with the professor and the second years who were there.

On a much lighter note, in response to Eddie (opps I thought it was Faiz.. it's that innerpower vdubpower thing..), I think it'd be great if they had some sort of a cafeteria, but I don't think it is a necessity.. and I think there are other options such as bringing more vendors into the area around Antique Row perhaps. Maybe they will build a food bar or something after they plan the construction of dorms and the vet clinic in the future.. who knows. In the meantime, explore the local area for more food.. the area around the school actually does have some good food if you know where to look (and have the time).

if you're hungry, outta 4th ST, make a left and Yoshinoya will be on your left side on Garey Ave. Their Beef Bowl...mmmmmmmmm......

lanny , comon now, there is a difference between the incredible vdubpower, and innerpower. tho i do agree with him, we do need a cafeteria on campus. hey who is inner power anyways

peaceoutpops

Who is vdubpower? 😀

Hey, PuppyLuv,

I'm very familiar w/the yoshinoya on Garey st. Thanks anyway! 😉

I love that place also. I used to have combo bowl 3~4 times a week in my high school senior year!

I was just wishing that we didn't have to go off campus to grab something to eat.

I myself like to go off campus once in a while, but I was just thinking more of on campus cafeteria.

I apologize for cutting in but I have a quick question. When does West/COMP start interviewing students and how do they contact students for interviews? Thanks. 😀

I haven't seen any interviewees come by yet...but as far as contacting for interviews....they called me(I was interviewing at LECOM actually), schedueled the interview(with a choice of dates) and then sent me a letter also.
I interviewed last year in late October...and I was the "second" group through...

If you are really interested in COMP....and haven't already, I would consider attending the OMAC(Osteopathic Awareness Conference) that COMP has...

I believe the next one is Oct/Nov...it worth attending and mentioning...I attended the August one last year...wrote and spoke about it...and was accepted two weeks later....

Best of luck...

Gator,
I don't remember when COMP starts interviewing.. probably in October or so. As far as I can remember, I received phone calls to schedule an interview. I wasn't home when I got the call, but luckily my answering machine caught it. They won't pass you up because they can't reach you by the phone just yet.. but you will know when you get that call. I think after that, they also sent me the info. packet for my interview date.

The OMAC conference that Yosh is referring to is definitely something I would recommend, but if you are not from around the area, it can be a trek to get here. That being said, if COMP is one of your first choices and you would like to get a weekend in to really learn about the school and Osteopathic Medicine, OMAC is probably something you would want to consider going to. I think the webpage www.westernu.edu has information on the upcoming conference.

I also recall mentioning the conference and talking about it with my interviewers (one of whom happened to be a physician who demonstrated OMM during the conference) and I think it really showed that I had been paying attention and was sincerely interested in their school.

Anyway, good luck.. feel free to ask more questions.. the thread is slowing down a bit since everyone is studying for anatomy, but there are quite a few of us that still read even though not all post messages.

Good luck on the gross anatomy exam folks!!!!!!!!

I actually got interviewed late march this year. (it was the last day of interview i think). COMP didn't call me at all, i found out when i called them, gotta scramble for plane ticket and everything (i got the interview package thru fax the day before the interview). It was actually just me and this girl that morning that got interviewed and the cool thing is one of the interviewer was a student. But.......I got off the waiting list late june....So Best of Luck!!!!
ps. don't expect to see any good looking people at COMP, well except maybe this dude RobbC and if you have catarac maybe i'll look good too!!!!

Thanks for all the response. I am interested in attending the conference that you all mentioned but traveling would be difficult (I live in Texas). I was thinking that I could go to the conference if it happened to coincide with an interview 😀 (I hope!). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to bring up during an interview (and what not to)? Are there tutors or study groups available at West/COMP? Thanks 🙂

PuppyLuv
Come on now...you've got to be kidding. Cute guys and gals are a dime a dozen, but finding someone cute/fine/sexy/handsome with a great personality is hard to come by. Have you checked out the other colleges yet? I'm sure you'll find a few here and there...hehe. By the way, can you give us any hints on who you might be. I'm sure the COMP SDNers will figure you out if they haven't already.

Gator
As for your question about interviews. I remember having mine the first week of October, so I'm pretty sure you should be receiving that phone call sometime in the next few weeks. Good luck.

I must admit, RobbC is one of the best looking medical students at this school by far. And probably one of the best looking ones i've ever seen. I know of about 20 girls in our class that are absolutely madly in love with him, although they all hide it. Damn, God didn't touch him with the ugly stick. You go Robb!

Gator - Great! We need more Texans out here!..heh heh. They were pretty fast with my interview request, so be on the lookout after your secondary is in. I never went to the OMAC, but I read about Osteopathic Medicine and heard about it at my undergrad university. Aside from mentioning how I heard about Osteopathy in my personal statement, they never asked me about it during interviews or anything. Good luck and e-mail me if you need any help or have other questions.

Gator- To answer your questions, there are study groups that you can make yourself.. and those seem to be pretty helpful. If that isn't your cup of tea, you can always study alone or study with other people but individually (which is what I usually do).. if you need help, at least there is someone around to talk to. Usually studying at school is a good idea because there will be classmates around to chat with and to brainstorm with. They also have a center set up for academic help and I know there are tutors available for whomever needs them. Some professors and TA's will also hold study sessions once in awhile. For OMM, there are opportunities a few times a week to go in during lunch for extra practice and when there isn't official sessions, there are usually MS-II's there who are happy to help with OMM.

What to bring up during an interview? There are plenty of things.. the more interest you show the better I think. I can't think of everything right now.. I'll try thinking later when I have a functional brain. :/

RobbC- Hmm.. I can sort of identify with what you're saying about finding someone with the right "qualities". Any ideas who PuppyLuv and TNT are????

Puppyluv- Who are you?

TNT- ditto.

Heh I'm just tired.. sorry folks. I'm heading to bed.. g'luck studying tomorrow and make sure to get your study breaks in to keep your sanity.

Thanks again for your responses (I can see how helpful COMP students are). I guess I will just sit by the phone and wait 😀 .

Just a quick side note...the RobbC calandars are almost complete....those that put in your orders will get an e-mail as to when they can me picked up....

Again...thank you for all that supported the MS1 "We love Hot RobbC Calandar" fundraiser....we may not have CD's to sell...but apparently A$$ is all we need to get ca$h....

If you haven't placed your order...

Boxer Shorts Robb: $20
G-String Robb: $35

Get your MS1 Calandars while they're hot!!

Hey John, I want to change my order.

I now want TEN copies of that "Rob Calendar". 😀

Consider it done...the demand is out of control.....

Robb is quite the hot commidity....

Sig Ep is outta control!!!!

Interesting thought Yosh,

I know you've got more than a few admirers of your own...and some of them not secret. I wish I got to drive around in a woman's "shanazzy" ride, or hook it up here and there. So it seems like you're the ladies man. I guess it's a Sig Ep thing...ya know.

Hello everyone! I am 😛 EXTREMELY 😛 happy to say I have an interview at COMP on Friday 10/12! I am really juiced with this one as I am looking at COMP as my top choices.

Where do you all recommend staying/flying in at?

I'd (ideally) like to stay out there for a few days to learn about Cali (I'm in Pennsylvania)... Any suggs?

BTW, any East Coaster out there now? How was the transition?

Thanks in advance!!
-A

Congrats on your interview...I am an East Coaster..from NY actually...and I am now a MS1 here at COMP...there are a bunch of us..we stick together and keep the East Coast alive.
I really like the school...and was fortunate enough to be interviewed around the same time as you...
As far as flying here...fly into Ontario...its about 15-20 min from the school...verses L.A. which is a good hour and traffic is HELL..
Places to stay...I stayed at the Claremont Inn in Claremont..which was about 10 minutes from school...or I am sure if you needed somewhere to stay...you could crash with one of us....
I know what it hell is and rememeber all too well...

If you need a place to stay...e-mail me and I am sure I can help ya...

I am the Social/Recreational Chair for the 2005 class....so I am all about being friendly...

Best of Luck...and congrats

I am putting together a list of 1st years that are willing to put interviewees up for their interviews at COMP...

Take some stress off...and be able to talk to and stay with students...

I'll keep ya "potentials" posted..

E-mail me if you are interested

What a nice class! A Social/Recreational officer? The class of 2005 really knows how to have fun. I don't think we have one in the class of 2002.
Anyway, I am living next to the Westernu campus--the Park/Plaza appartments. If any interveiwee want to talk to a senior med student, I am in the neighborhood.

Hi everyone!
I just got an interview at Western on the 12th!! I was just wondering if you guys had any advice as to what the adcom is looking for and what kind of questions they ask. Also in your opinions...what is the best/strongest attribute of COMP? Thanks a bunch 🙂 Also yosh...can you PLEASE hook me up with that list you are compiling...also any of you guys down to party that night?

For you guys that are interviewing at COMP, ask around for RobbC. You gals will fall madly in love with him.

By the way, lets have a poll. I know of several gals in our class that have the hots for Joe Brown, our biochem TA. Who do you think is better looking, Joe Brown or RobbC?

I think RobbC BY A LONG SHOT.

Just checking in to say hello....

Kostarringme,
I have another person who is interested in hosting also....I'll have her contact you? I am hosting another student that day....but maybe we can all get together that evening???

Let's see what happens..

I need a drink..........

C'mon man, RobbC over Joe Brown fo' sho. I'll even take any of RobbC's slopy seconds...............(or Joe Brown's).

The class is half empty for this physio, and I'm here physically but as you can see.... 😀

Oh! Count one more vote in for ROB the MAN!!!
😀

Drink? Did someone say saki?

Oh wait, that's going to be me in 1 hour.

Please tell me we have sushi lovers at COMP?

-A

I was looking forward to sushi...unfortunately, it was closed...Closed on Mondays.....oh, well....a tasty burger, fries, and a beer never fails......

I'm getting tired. I'm stuck in my wall. But I'm still smiling!

Hope everyone is surviving.

Steph

Rollin'...rollin'....rollin'

For sushi lovers,
Try Sushi Koyo in Diamond Bar (behind Alcapolco). Mr. Hiro makes good quality sushi. His salmon skin roll is the best!

Pei
COMP MS4

I am ALWAYS up for good sushi....thanks for the heads up!!!!

Yosh...you're joking right?

What street is that sushi place in Diamond Bar on? Thanks.. I don't get out much =p

I'm a gonna beat your ass Tex!!!!!

I think the sushi place in Diamond Bar is on Diamond Bar Blvd.

I'd say it be hard for NY to beat a Texan, but Kirk is quite the domestic housekeeper...
I don't know who I'd put money on for that one.

Sushi Koyo is on 868 N. Diamond Bar Blvd, 3 miles away from Pomona. You may call ahead and order out too: 909 861 6537.

The sushi is a little pricy, but it is soooo worth it.

Mr. Hiro (the guy who own the place and make the sushi too)is a funny character himself.

Pei

This weekend even feel SLIGHTLY less stressed? I hope so.. well, at least in terms of a pending exam. Practice your OMM and keep up with some of the other classes at the same time.

Too bad I couldn't find my combination lock, Jay. If you ever find it, 12-2-16.. haha.

How was the softball game?

Work is slowly progressing with the class website.. I'll let you guys know when I have some more work done on it.

melancholy - Victorious!!!! Softball was a lot of fun. It turned out to be more of a first year thing, because only two second years showed. But hopefully we will do it again and get a better showing out of the 2nd year class. My team was down like 12-4 at the 3rd inning, but fortunately thanks to our esteemed president(j/k Prez), we came back! 19-17....what a game.

P.S. You should have seen Yosh run. That boy can move!

That's only when he decides to actually go after the ball instead of watching it go by. 😉

And the Thundercats kick off the year with a win....

Hey BEEF,

I am getting that hostile vibe again...Hmm..do we really want to open a can of worms AGAIN??????

You are gonna be in over your head!!!

TRUST ME!!

Hey.. I am sure Yosh can pull his weight when it comes to sprinting. How do you think he survived that long in the city? 😛

Well, it's time to sleep before the OMM exam.. hope I wake up in time. Woe to my partner if I wake up late and sprint down to the OMM lab sopping wet like Mel is when she bike rides to school. Oh wait.. I wonder who her partner will be.. hope she doesn't hose herself down in the bathroom before.. hehe.
