How realistic it is that YOU. ME.

SOON.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,

Most of us out there on Planet Earth reading this blog are (obliviously)

HEALTHY,

or

I'M TIRED OF THE NIGHTS UP ALL NIGHT. I'M TIRED OF BEING ON CALL ON HOLIDAYS.

YEP.

I hear every one of those, because

I've lived EVERY ONE OF THOSE.

Enter Norm Wu, aka

His contribution to this site is mind blowing.

OFF THE CHART.

He was robbed of his life for reasons I can't comprehend and have problems coming to grips with.

WHERE ARE WE?

Makes you think.

Where we are.

And how short a time we are here.

I think it is important to, considering what a relatively short life span we all have,

TO RECOGNIZE SURROUNDINGS AND TO BE THANKFUL.

I want all of you to

PUT ASIDE YOUR STRUGGLES....YEAH I KNOW...I'VE GOTT'EM TOO...

and

please

TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE

THANKFUL

I have tears at this moment since

I HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR.

Please tell me yours.

Beautiful, intelligent, driven wife (finishing her internal medicine residency). Awesome dog that is always happy to see me. Baby on the way soon. These are the things that give me balance and make the hard work worthwhile.

My family, every day.
Everything else pales in comparison.
Though I'm quite thankful to have the chance to positively impact the lives of so many sick children, children that will never remember me or my contribution to their lives, that's just fine.🙂

Cheers!

My kids, my wife, and our good health. Seriously, there is a moment every day that I thank my lucky stars for each. I resolved, a few years ago, that at the end of my life I did not want to look back with regret because I had taken for granted these truly important things. It really changes your reaction to situations when you stop and use this metric with seemingly mundane things like agreeing to read one more book at bedtime, or letting one of the kids come along to run an errand instead of leaving them at home. You get the idea.

I consider myself one of the luckiest and blessed individuals on earth . a wife who will go to bat for me, a daughter that has changed every fiber in me , a career that is doing well, thankful for being a happy person.

A healthy, happy family including a husband who is incredible and puts up with my craziness and actually loves me more for it, parents who are in good health and living life after spending their entire 20s-40s putting all their energy into my brother and I, kids who lift me up each day just with their smile. And when not with said family I go to work with incredible and fun people to do something I truly love. Thankful each and every second.

Too much to list. As a start: I have an amazing wife, 3 amazing (healthy) kids and the opportunity to pursue a career doing what I have always dreamed of doing... I have great friends and family, and a reason to smile everyday.

AND, since I took Step 1 I never have to look at the TCA cycle again!!

Good thread. It's always good to remember that you don't have to look far to find somebody who is experiencing a harder time than you... and it doesn't take much to help brighten their day.

A beautiful, loving and supportive wife now prego with our third and the baby seems healthy. 2 beautiful girls (3 and 1) who find everything interesting and run up to me when I come home. My overall health. Despite the controversies associated with a career in anesthesia, I still love what I do every day.

🤣🤣🤣

If that's real, you have to be amazed that someone got funding to do that study.

I'm thankful for a myriad of things. I have a selfless, loving wife; a healthy, amazing daughter; the rest of my family and friends; and the opportunity to pursue an intellectually engaging, challenging, and rewarding profession.

It's real. That's a remnant from my studies for Part 1. Probably from Chestnut or Miller. My guess is Miller, 'cause I sincerely doubt I explored Chestnut.

On second thought, probably not even from Miller. Like I've got time for that. I'm gonna go with Faust.

Despite the fact that I haven't been home enough this week, when I got home last night, my kid wanted to be sure I went to bed early so that, before he went to bed, he could set up a nice Father's Day surprise for me for this morning!

You were right the first time; I definitely read it in Chestnut on my OB rotation, and promptly laughed, because I recognized it from the sig...

im thankful that there are young women are willing to get naked for money at the strip clubs...

Find faith and you will not fear death.

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion;respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Interesting, generally speaking my religious friends fear death significantly more than I and my atheist friends. In fact, there is pretty much a direct correlation between the degree of their religiosity and the level of their fear of death.

I suspect the correlation is, those who fear death more will seek to encompass themselves in thicker layers of religious protection from death to the point that the most religious believe they are not going to die if their faith is strong enough. "People of God it is time to arise and proclaim to creation we're not going to die."

Thankfully, I don't need the promise of an afterlife to assuage any concern regarding the end of this one.

And I am thankful for my Saviour Christ Jesus, thank you very much. Not real worried about dying. What I can do something about is living.

👍 That's great. Just pointing out that this statement

Find faith and you will not fear death.

from an individual who is looking increasingly like a internet troll d-bag, and who can't be bothered to give proper attribution to the actual author of the bulk of his post (Chief Tecumseh 1768-1813), is in fact not ubiquitously correct.

TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE

THANKFUL

for.

I'm still trying to come up with a good response to that question dude... and I have like a billion different answers as I'm thankful for a lot.

I'm thankful for the sun coming up everyday and powering life on this amazing planet...
I'm thankful that "I think" and therefore "I am"...
I'm thankful for every breath I share with loved ones (wife, mom, dad, bro, friends, dog, cats, etc)...

and the list goes on...

Really though, I'm just thankful to be alive....

I hope to continue to evolve as a person and leave my mark on this planet before my time is up.

Being truly loved by my family and significant other, and having the opportunity to do my residency in the field I wanted with wonderful benefits.

These two little angels, born 3/7/2012.

They were born at 31 1/2 weeks and had an extended NICU stay. My little one (in the back) got septic with staph aureus after the PICC line was placed, but thank God the infection was caught quickly. The whole experience was scary as hell and there were many sleepless nights. They're now pushing 11 1/2 lbs (each!) and are too cute for words. I can't help but be very thankful each day I get to wake up to their silly antics, coos, and cries! I don't think I'll ever wonder about the meaning of life again.

👍👍 They're great! I can't imagine going through that NICU time... it must have been hell. I have 14 month old twin boys, let me tell you... it gets so much more fun over the next year! Once they started interacting with each other, it was like a whole new ballgame. Hilarious!

Congrats!

Thank you!

Everyone says "oh, enjoy it now, it gets so much harder.." They can kick my butt all they want, I'm just happy they're here. Any suggestions on what to teach them this early on? I can hold their attention trying to show them how to count fingers!

I have to disagree with that, in a good way. 🙂 After they can walk and are out of diapers, they're so much more interesting and fun. Kids are better and better the more they can do. Mine are coming up on 15, 13, and 11 now.

Of course, the girl (nearly 11) isn't a teenager yet ... so maybe I should bump this thread in 5 years to weigh in on whether or not I want to wring her neck then.

Agree. I didn't much like either of my kids until they were 14-16 months old. Not much personality until then, but at 5 and 3, they may have a little too much 'personality'.

I have to generally agree with pgg and bertelman. I stayed home with the boys the summer between M1 and M2 years. They were ~1.5 months to ~3.5 months old at that time. I was pretty miserable. I love my kids, but it was really rough. I was not meant to be a stay at home dad. I think the worst thing was that I never got a break. With just one, you get a break when the spouse gets home, but my wife (who is amazing) could only really take one at a time. Now that they are a little bit older, it's a blast. My 4 year old daughter rounds out the fun, too... although she might have a bit too much "personality" as well.

The boys will play peek-a-boo with each other, laugh at each other and dance together. It is really fun to watch.

powermd - as far as things to teach your twins? We just worked on sign language, same as our daughter. It makes the 1-2 year old range a lot more enjoyable b/c it gives them some simple ways to communicate. We just did the basic signs (food, more, milk, water, sleep, please, thank you, all done) and that seemed to really help ease the "terrible twos" with our daughter. Other than that, I found I really enjoy teaching my kids anything. They are just so eager to learn, especially once they get a little older, it is incredibly rewarding to watch them learn. We sprang for a bit more expensive of a daycare center that focuses on early education... I think that has made a huge difference. My daughter comes home and quizzes us on things she learned during the day - "who was the first person to walk on the moon?", etc.

Sorry for the rambling post, I tend to be a little too wordy. I do agree that it gets easier as they get older, although once they know how to form arguments it gets a bit difficult. 😎 Enjoy it!

Great advice. There's a pre-school around here that has a multi-year waiting list which we hope to get on soon. I think they do lots of educational stuff with the kids. I'll have to learn more about sign language. I would guess you just start pairing the sign with the activity, right? How do you get them to tell you "I'm crying because I crapped my pants" as opposed to "I need a burp" or "I want hugs" or as is always the case with my (not so) little one "MORE FOOD!!!"?

:laugh::laugh: I dunno... your nose? 😎

As far as sign language goes, yeah, we just use the sign with the word and activity. You will be surprised how quickly they catch on... at least once they are a little older.

Parenting is one of those activities where you just hope you aren't messing up too much. 😀 Nobody can tell you exactly what to do, at least they shouldn't try! It's a learn as you go kind of thing... you'll get it all figured out, just in time for round 2!:meanie:
