What computer games do you premeds play?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Diablo II several years ago, but Starcraft on and off. I've wasted so much of my life on these Blizzard games.

I have a strange feeling they have a giant, dedicated division of world renown psychologists finding ways to make their games more addicting.

I play Football Manager 2008 & 2009. It's so addicting hours goes by.

Im sure most of you dont know what this game is 😀

unreal tournament (99, 2003, 2004)
...it is the only comp game i've played. technically have never bought/owned one either.

online games: text twist, anything soccer/world cup,
smart phone games: word mole, wheel of fortune.

I played World of Warcraft my freshman year of college. Completely decimated my GPA and general attitude towards academics in general. Somehow, over the summer, I quit. I still don't know how.

Two years later, while my attitude has surely changed, I'm still working to repair the damage done to my GPA. 🙄

haha woa! this is exactly the reason why i never started to play it! My brother was on that game prolly 12 hours a day...
Lol this is so funny, whenever I think of WoW, I cant help but think of south park..
But I play Warcraft 3..

and CANNOT WAIT FOR STAR CRAFT 2 OR DIABLO 3!!! ( But im pissed that they will likely come out while im in medical school:scared:

Friendly fire will not be tolerated!

<====COD4 addiction

I know! After playing the demo, I deleted it, knowing if I bought the whole thing, the game would consume my life.

What I love about myself is that I will easily get bored with games after playing them for more than an hour to the point where I will not play until a week later 🙂
But with that being said, I play:
-Starsiege Tribes (an FPS that came out 1998, amazing game, and was the pilot to all modern day FPS games, like CS. And even then, I still haven't found a game that compares to the fun of this game)
-Starcraft from time to time
-World of Warcraft. Played this my freshmen year. It didn't affect my GPA, cause I didn't find this game so great that I wanted to make this my second life. lol. Can you believe this, that people use that game as a dating service? Well, they're paying $30 every two months, so they might as well, lol

I competed all over the southeast in Counter-Strike when I was in high school. We pulled in some great prizes (PS2s for the whole team back when they first came out 🙂). I still play sometimes, but I'm way out of practice.
I've played World of Warcraft since 2007. I raid pretty consistantly, and it hasn't taken a toll on my GPA or graduate project. I suppose it just comes down to time management.

I've been playing one massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) or another since EverQuest back in 1998. For me, they're a great way to relax, unwind, and simply escape reality for a while. I've been able to prevent them from interfering with my responsibilities, though, so I suppose I'm lucky.

I just overhauled my computer and have been playing COD4 again. It's so much better with 4x as much RAM and a much better video card 🙂

this has to be the dorkiest thread ever...

that being said, i play HL2 and a little bit of team fortress...

id say its less dorky than the threads where they ask if they should drop a class they might make a B in ....

as for my games, play some counter strike but really suck at it. also like playing poker. I really love MMO's (Everquest my personal favorite) but i just dont have time for them now 🙁

Counter Strike Source 👍.

I am a huge Civilization fan as well, but I play it rarely since I like to play till the end and that usually take like 50 hours or so. Plus, Civ is so addictive that I end up playing till 7am and that totally screws up my sleep cycle. The beauty of counterstrike for me is that I can play for an hour here or there whenever I get a chance as opposed trying to complete a game of Civ.

Second on both counts, though I haven't picked up CS in a while

Civ4 though, that game nearly ruins my life every quarter without fail. It really is a black hole of free time and lost sleep.

Oh, another dangerous one is Eve. You start playing sometime in the late afternoon, then look up a few 'minutes' later: "Sunrise? Didn't that thing just set?" 🙄

i know a guy who met his fiance on WoW...

Age of Empires
Civilization
Champions 1 & 2 on PS2
The Sims 1
The Sims 2
Sim City

I love all things Sims.

winning eleven, warcraft 3, dota, red alert 2, osu, anything on newgrounds.com/kongregate.com...

any type of games that are easier to get my hands on

COD4 -- there is no better game! After college I spent 4 months straight playing this game.....Literally 4 months...like seriously I didnt do anything but play this game. It was my only friend haha

I play Wolfenstein 3D and Super Mario Bros. Can't seem to make it past World 7-3. 😉

Computer games are good for you 😀

I started playing with my roommate sophomore year and it was my best semester thus far, GPA-wise. Granted, I was never "addicted" - when the level cap was 60 I got to level 49, and when the level cap was raised to 70 I got to level 60. But my roommate, she'd play right after she got back from swim practice every day, raid until almost bedtime. Eventually sold her account for $400 on Craigslist, but it took up a lot of time until then.

Now she's a first year at UCLA Dental, and I didn't get in my first application cycle. Maybe if I'd raided more...

Used to play Age of Empires, Caesar II and III, and Civ II and up. I don't really play those anymore though.

I have picked up playing The Lord of the Rings Online though, and it's a blast. I swore I would never play an MMO like WoW or something (and I've still never played WoW), but LOTRO is fun. The story is in depth and engaging like the books and movies. If you like games like WoW, you might like this.

I think a better question would be what haven't I played? That would be a much, much shorter list...

I play Wolfenstein 3D and Super Mario Bros. Can't seem to make it past World 7-3. 😉

ARGHHHHHHH!!!!! I wanted to be the first one to say I play Wolfenstein 3D!!!

Sadly it isn't too far from the last computer game I played. I loved games back then--King's Quest, DGen, and of course, Oregon Trail. I think I got Cholera about fifty times. But that's not as bad as the dysentery...

Just in case, lest I not be viewed as a fellow honorary nerd due to my lack of gaming, I took quantum chemistry for fun, watch Monty Python movies, and run Linux on my computer (dual-booted with Windows, so I can still watch Netflix online movies 😀).

And I was a D&D enthusiast until high school (hey, I stated dating a cheerleader!). Now if that (the D&D part!) doesn't make me a nerd for life, I don't know what does...

Left 4 Dead.

Zombie apocalypse. So good.

GTA4
World in Conflict- great game if you haven't played
Halo series

I used to play alot of video games but just don't have the time any longer.

TF2, Diablo 2, Left 4 Dead...

But nothing beats SSBM! (except Earthbound)

I salute your nerdiness (and am slightly envious of it). 😉

Agreed. Diablo II was the only Blizzard game I seriously played, definitely wasted too many hours of my life on that. But Blizzard games are like crack - I played Guild Wars for a while, but it just wasn't the same. Some friends got hooked on WoW, but I dodged that bullet.

I'm proud of myself, haven't played a single computer game in college. I've played a lot of Fifa '05 / '07, Madden, and NCAA Football / Basketball on Xbox with friends, but it's nothing like the time sink computer games can be. Diablo III will be hard to resist.

I know. I've never played it, but it seems like everyone in England does.

Lol, I thought I was the only pre-med who played computer games. This thread is reassuring.

Counter-Strike fan since the old days of CS 1.5. Now I play Source on a (almost) daily basis.

😳
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum
Hospital Tycoon 👍
Airport Tycoon 1 & 3

😳

Anybody play hospital tycoon? 🙂

Haha I used to LOVE that game while I was in HS.... It was hilarious how one of the most common things in the beginning was when their head was like inflated and you had to deflate it. lol. now I play Sims 2, Spore, and World of Goo

Halo 3
COD4 and COD: World at War
Starcraft
Command and Conquer series
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (I LOVE this game)
Fallout 3

I play Halo 3 and COD almost nightly. I've restarted my character like 6 times in ESIV and it doesn't get any less addictive.

👍 to those who play sc.. not enough recognition for the best game ever! also high on my list is sims, worms, and I guess yahoo graffiti, if anyone still plays that. Oh, and those time-management games on bigfish (fish tycoon, farm frenzy, etc.!)

...oops - guess I didn't leave time to study, did i 😛

How could I forget the Metal Gear series? *shakes head*

Empire Total War!
I liked Shogun & Rome & Medieval, but haven't tried Empire. Is it really that good?

I was disappointed with Sims 3 so I haven't felt the urge to update yet another franchise. (Let's assume I read the reviews... 🙂)

Its worth it just to try the naval battles. It's a lot like medieval II. I still prefer the simplicity of Rome though.

The naval battles sound so complex. Moving an army in formation is hard enough without wind and water.
