Lots and lots of synthwave. And the occasional death metal album.

Qbank = nothing

Anki = Something that sounds good but won't distract me, so I can't like it too much. So basically old favorites for the most part.

Low yield lectures = whatever I'm feeling

I listen to mainly electronic music, so think James Blake, lovibe, Clams Casino, etc

Do you recommend listening to lectures with some music in the background to get through the boringness and pauses/jokes. I've never tried it but it doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Nah, I just skip through that stuff. To clarify, I only listen to music when I'm running through the slides. When I'm watching the actual recordings (I know, gross), I use the video speed controller extension for chrome. It allows you to skip forward by hitting the x key.

Usually nothing. I am a bit of an audiophile and get really into the music and sounds, so music distracts me.

Do you play an instrument?

In my experience, people who play instruments are less likely to study to music. My guess is they intrinsically appreciate the tunes more than I do, so their attention goes to the song rather than that spacebar.

Yeah I play a lot. I was a professional musician for a few years before med school.

Any time before dinner: Above and Beyond
After dinner (9-11): Daniel Caesar
Its definitely a big contrast...but I don't hate it.

God-Emperor be praised.

Wave music is my go to as well - skeler, brothel, barnacle boi, CHVRN, Øfdream, Deadcrow, sidewalks and skeletons, etc. Qualifies as probably more hardwave than anything but I'm down with it all.

A range of instrumental music mostly (explosions in the sky, timecop1983)

The sound of my future wife asking why the hell I have 350k in loans

Primarily instrumental music (Lots of Jazz - Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus. Classical - Chopin, Debussy, or Vivaldi) or nothing at all. If just passively flipping through flashcards, maybe something different like jazz with vocals (Chet Baker). I occasionally add in some rock or metal because why not have some fun? Lol. Dream Theater, Karnivool, Tool, you name it.

Do you listen to M83 at all?

I've only heard their radio stuff which I wasn't super impressed with so not so far. Although I do know a lot of the time an artists radio played stuff may not be a good representation of their body of work. Worth a listen?

I like them. I figured if you like s&s you might like M83, but I also like We Own The Sky and Midnight City by them which were their singles so maybe you wouldn’t haha.

Recently, I've been vibing to some lofi hip hop (instrumental) playlists on spotify. User ChilledCow curates two great playlists.

I'm surprised I'm not seeing any/many people using classical music for the whole Mozart Effect.

Didn't work for me as a baby, not counting on it now.

I don’t have Spotify. Can you suggest a couple artists? I am intrigued.

24 hour live stream of mostly instrumental (occasionally a sentence or two, some car sounds or birds) lo-fi hip hop study music. I have this running in my background constantly when studying

Just search youtube my friend

Searching lofi hip hop will get me results, but I wanted suggestions for something good I should look up. I'm sure there's a lot of garbage, just like any genre. I don't want to listen to the Nickleback of lofi hip hop.

The musical template of lofi hiphop is such that one could click essentially any of the links and it would achieve the same results versus say looking for a specific Joe Bonamassa track instead of accidentally clicking Creed.

If it weren’t for fading in and fading out, I’d have no idea a new song started.
