What to do if wife is not supportive?

I think that this thread has outlived itself and that we should all just return to our own corners and move on.

And since I've been fortunate enough to marry a man whose passions lie in medicine, I'll never have to worry about the bills as long as I'm with him. Why torture myself in the workplace, or accumulating a string of ultimately meaningless acronyms behind my name? I am satisfied -- I am thoroughly fulfilled -- by the prospect of turning my energies toward being a really great mother.

I don't know HOW I missed this comment. How pathetic!

As a person engaged to a man with whom I'll never have to worry about bills either AND that probably makes MUCH more than your doctor husband, I STILL feel the need to get my meaningless MD/PhD. But then I'm marrying for LOVE NOT money and lifestyle. Now there's an interesting concept, marrying for love.....................

I'm real sad that a thread about a nice person like Agent came down to a one rife with golddiggers :(

LOL! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

If you keep making such ridiculous statements I'll get in trouble for the amount of noise I'm making in the office! :D

Why do you think I care how much money your husband makes? Why bring it up? Do you "win" the game of life with two lucrative incomes? :D Just remember one thing: You can't take it with you!!

A job is something to pay the bills and meet my family's needs. (That's NEEDS, not wants.) My husband's income *as a resident* will pay the bills, and then some. His potential income as a rural emergency doc will give us a comfortable living plus the opportunity to save for a long and fruitful retirement. Hence, I need to put myself in a career path, to keep myself employed and acquiring progressively more responsibility and bringing in money and generally running the rat-race, only if I feel the desire and passion to do so (or the need to bring in ludicrous amounts of money in order to live the American consumer's dream of infinite purchasing power). I do not.

Clearly you do. Kudos! Go get 'em, tiger! :D

(If I had been fortunate enough to marry a man destined to become a law enforcement agent (and the medical admissions process left us a heartbeat from that path), I'd still count myself blessed but I might feel a bit more pressure to assume a career in order to assure that cozy retirement. I'm sure I'd be able to find something I could enjoy and still fit it in alongside my primary occupation as a mother and homemaker. :) )

It was VERY mature of you to delete your last post about my previous one. :thumbup: Disagreeing on issues like marriage is one thing, but being downright hateful and mean is utterly unecessary.

Well, why don't we all learn from my maturity and move on. It is sad when people say hateful things

This thread has done nothing to help agent or any of us for that matter.

Since you know nothing about how this username came into being, perhaps you should keep your opinions to yourself...I was dubbed the 'commymommy' here for standing up for the rights of the uninsured and the poor...for supporting a universal healthcare program of some sort and for believing that equal access to quality education is something that we have to try to achieve. Many of your braniac med student wannabes here don't seem to understand the difference between socialistic ideas (or simple compassion for others) and communism and after being dubbed the commymommy I finally just changed my username.

Why don't you try .... asking next time before you attack someone you don't even know..

idiot :rolleyes:

Communists=Compassion?? LOL YOURE THE IDIOT:
"In sum the communist probably have murdered something like 110,000,000, or near two-thirds of all those killed by all governments, quasi-governments, and guerrillas from 1900 to 1987. Of course, the world total itself it shocking. It is several times the 38,000,000 battle-dead that have been killed in all this century's international and domestic wars. Yet the probable number of murders by the Soviet Union alone--one communist country-- well surpasses this cost of war. And those murders of communist China almost equal it."
