So I have an interesting situation. This is my first time applying and I've gotten 2 acceptances (MW-AZ and LECOM); however, I'm still waiting for UTHSCSA (first choice: interviewed back in October). It is my state school and only about 25k a year whereas my out of state choices are ~50k a year. Would y'all do a masters and re apply next year if you didn't get into a state school? I'm only 20 btw (3 years in high school + 3 years in college) so I guess I'm still pretty young for entering dental school. I guess what I'm asking is should I take my chances and apply again for a state school position, or should I not gamble and pack my bags to go out of state?

Thanks in advance for taking time to read my posts! I've really enjoyed lurking on SDN this past year and what I really like about this forum is how brutally honest us predents can be with each other. Best of luck to anyone else who is still waiting for an invite or is in a similar predicament!

I personally wouldn't gamble, and I'd go to one of the schools that accepted me. But then, I'm a second time applicant, 23 years old, and already have a masters. Last thing I want to do is spend any more time out of school before starting dental.

if it gets down to the wire, put a deposit down for mwu az and hope for the best from UT. mwu az is a great school, and it would not be a good move to turn those acceptances down and reapply. what happens if you don't get in next year? gotta take the offer while it's hot.

Ya I agree, the cycle next year is going to get more competitive. If you attend this cycle you'll be a dentist a year earlier than if you wait and that should help somewhat offset the cost difference.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I think I'm going to go ahead and pay the deposit. I don't want to have to pay for another year of undergrad schooling/ apply for a masters program.
It is what it is!
