And many small details would be mentioned during the slices ID show. DVD video camera is just for your convenience. Just pop the disc into your computer and watch... click onto the navigator bar of your computer's software to rewatch without any hassle of rewinding your DV tape.

Do you carry your digital video camera to class in record histo lections?! 😱 You must be joking

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't that study material be included in textbooks? Seriously, I've seen people carrying voice recorders but camcorder :scared: ?!!!!!!!

yes, they are in textbook, but the slides that he has on exam are almost identical to the ones he shows in lecture...so if you want to make it easier for yourself, record those slides!

let me get this straight one more time... to record the slides, you can use a personal camcorder? 😀 - if so, how often you need to do this?

DDS2BE said:
think... you can download a full length DVD movie in under one minute 😀 A very very very fast data transfer 🙂

daaang! 😍

Basically every General Histo class for about 10-15 min each. So for us, every exam, we would have recorded about 2 hours worth of slides info.

Let me correct you a little 🙂 A gigabit network is only available via physical connection (RG47 coax or some other kind of cable) and almost 1000 times as fast as DSL working at 1.2 mbit/sec... you got the idea right?! 😉

On the other hand, a maximum wireless network speed today is 58 mbit/sec.

The moral of this boring story is that you don't need a gigabit network to check your email wirelessly while sipping on a cup of espresso 😀 , but it is very valuable for a large data transfer, like movie download 😛 😛 😛

My bad, I meant the backbone of the wireless.

hahaha I think our class had invented this idea. During the slide ID show after the fist test, you would have seen 30+ people with digital camera, video camera, movie recorded digital camera. Trust me, I had 5 Histo books but my recorded video was the best resource.

My bad my man. We should let them find out for themselves after the first Histo test...hehehehe

It's cool, anything to give them a push in the right direction is good!

The Misketeer, how was the party last nite ?

If you guys didn't mention the camcorder... I would just end up doing things the old fashion way 😀 .

So, what kind of camcorders would you guys recommend? - old school type, or the latest Sony type?

It was very good, lots of ppl showed up....everyone got drunk obviously!

It doesn't matter, what ever device that can record video is sufficient. Don't bother spending money on a new camcorder as you only need to record slides for this class.

Oh, and about the recording the slides....because we have basically cracked the professor's lab portion of the exam (by recording the slides), don't be suprise that he might switch around thing a bit. Usually, the professors usually don't bother to do this, but just in case.....

so case students... what are your thoughts about pocket pc's? helpful/not? many people have them?

Hey guys,

I have an alternate list interview in March for case....(I applied late in the process, should've known better 🙁 ). Case is my number one choice, but it seems my chances are pretty slim as they interview about 100 people for the alternate list and very few people off that list make it in. My stats are average, is there anything I can do to up my chances?? Is there a particular person in admissions I should bother to speak to? Anything would be helpful. Thanks.

Unfortunately, March interviews are really late in the process... However, I would still go, even though the chances of making it to the DMD class is very slim. Attending the interview will allow you to look at the school, and meet students and faculty... an oppertunity for you to show how interested you are, which will pay off if you end up applying again next cycle.

To give you an idea, I applied 2nd day of the cycle (May 19th, 2004), got my interview mid-August, acceptance letter Dec. 1st.

Case is all about applying early (if you meet their average stats)... you will see what I mean.

Why is CASE your first choice, may i ask?
Good Luck

Nah.. I haven't seen anyone yet using pocket pc for his/her school's purpose.

Keep in touch with David Dalsky and Babara Schulli (sp) frequently on your application process. Good luck. What is your stat ?

Yeah, use your existing one. If you have to buy a new one, try DVD camcorder from Sony. It was my best investment so far, not just for school but for other purposes because of its convenience and its compatibility with some video editing softwares of Sonic, Ulead and Adobe.
👍 👍

Cum GPA 3.3
Science GPA 3.2
DAT 19sci/19overall/22PAT

I was told earlier by someone in admissions (a male, im guessing either Brian Sherman or David Dalsky) that ppl have been admitted with lower stats than mine for the coming fall, and that if i had applied earlier (may/june) there was a large liklihood of me gettin in (provided my interview went well). What luck eh? Arghhhhh 😡

But thanks for the advice HuyetKiem. I think its so great that u and musketeer are helping the incoming class so much, says a lot about the students there!

Hey fellow Torontonian, hope you will get in somewhere is year! Where else have you applied to?

Has anyone received any sort of scholarship from Case? i know they are limited but I am not sure if they send it out with you acceptance letter or after your deposit.
Thanks

From what I've known, they usually send out with your acceptance letter.

hey bets3: have you decided which school to attend this fall? - is it Case? 😀

The financial aid lady at Case told me that all the scholarships have been given out already. They are normally sent out with the acceptance letters.

I've applied to a few schools...BU, NYU, Case, Tufts, Mercy, Nova, and Marquette. Like I mentioned, I applied late (mid-Sept) so that kind of messed up my chances. But I have been accepted to BU, got an interview at NYU, which I cancelled (cuz I personally think BU is better than NYU-and a little cheaper). I have yet to hear anything from the other schools though. I really don't want to go to BU, primarily the money issue, so I'd love to get in somewhere else....but like I mentioned Case is my first choice... 🙁

wait, so you don't want to go to BU because of money but case is your first choice? isn't case right up there with some of the most expensive schools in the country?

on another note, I sent in my withdrawal to detroit last week, maybe you'll get offered my spot 🙂

Biogirl,

Congrats, I've been following this thread, nice to know u got into Detroit! I realize Case is expensive, but its about 10-12K cheaper per year than BU. In addition, I think I'd be gettin a much better quality of education at Case vs. BU. Regardless of where I go, I'm going to pay a lot, as Im Canadian and won't get state fees anywhere. I just dont think BU's tuition justifies the quality of education I'd be getting there.

wow, I didn't realize BU was that expensive! I agree with you that I think though case is expensive it will offer a good education and a more or less enjoyable experience.

I'll bring mine in 👍 Thanks for the tip Musketeer 😀 I had just recently purchased a top of a line Panasonic 3 CCD mini DV camcorder that I finally get a use for 😛 😀

Give us more tips, Case d-students! I don't wanna be in position on finding out shortcuts by myself... I'd rather have someone else doing it for me 😀

I didn't apply to BU but I can't believe they cost that much, I visited there a few years ago and that the place was a dump, and all the students were like "you don't want to come here."
I agree CASE is expensive but I feel I will come out with a great education/experience.

Is anyone done with SEALANT program? (Case students) What can you actually do after only 70 hours of class work to those kids? What was difficult about this program and what did you like most?

72-hour course for the sealant program:

1. CPR
2. dealing with some emergency situations
3. Ergonomic
4. Child psychology in dental setting
5. flouride
6. assemble and disassemble portable dental units and chairs
7. medical conditions and medications
8. caries detection
9. applying sealant on the extracted teeth and classmates
10. oral exams (with perio and dental anatomy classes)
and some other minor infos.

A thread in the dental forum got me curious: do students in the DMD program have an opportunity to experience lasers and/or electric handpieces, perhaps as a 4th year elective or something like that?

Case acknowledgement of deposit states... the coming year's (2005-2006) basic tuition to be $40,285/yr 😱 (which 50% of it is due by July 1st). Then there are the additional costs; instruments (~$9,500/yr), books (~$2,500), insurance, living costs (~$15,000/yr).... all in all - sums to around $69,000-$70,000/yr. Easy over $270,000 when you get the DMD badge.

I am wondering what the monthly repayment plan will be after graduation, and for how long?

If it's 10 yr repayment plan, that's a big chunk coming out our (future) paychecks (easy $4,000-$5,000/mo - including interest). Maybe 20 years would do it... that's still crazy. 😀

Just think of this little Dr. next to your name 😀 Dr.Mo007 or Mo007, DMD

9500 for instruments, good grief... the website and all the papers I got say 7500... they must have raised it.
all the other schools I applied to quoted me around 2500 for instruments. does anyone know why case is substantially higher?
when do we get our loan checks... or, will loan money automatically be sent to the school in time for the July 1 deadline? I've never had the dubious honor of taking out loans before 😕

Wow $9500 for instruments 😱 😱 ? must be some new toys ? 😍 😍 😍 There were 200+ items in our kits in several boxes. Cost for instruments for our 2nd,3rd and 4th years will be reduced. For books, I have spend around $600 for an entire year.

Don't worry about that. If you fill your loan application before July 1, Case will know about it. You don't have to do anything.

Hi guys, I was just wondering. Class of 2009, have you guys recieved your financial aid packets in the mail yet?

I wanna know too 😕 😕 . 2 sets of low speeds and 2 sets of high speed in our kits would cost more than 2500 in the market.

nope. I am not sure what they really have to send us though, since you fill out the fafsa online and I think you fill out the case-sallie mae one online too. we got a lot of finaid stuff in our interview folders and mooo7 said the confirmation letter quoted the exact prices for our class...

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am also a another girl that got accepted. I think its a great idea that we meet before school to get to know each other. A bit of info about me is that I am from San Jose, CA and it scares me to death moving to OH all by myself. Hoping to get to know anyone locally if possible before making the big move.

Congrats for getting into Case!!!!
I am also scared to death about moving to a city by myself. I have never been alone before. I went to the same school grads K-12 and I went to College and lived with my best friend from high school all years in college. So this will be the first time in my life that I know no one :scared: Feel free any Case students to pm me or im me at grinningrice.

Welcome to the club, angeleyes! More and more people are finally showing up. Two weeks ago I was thinking that I was the only one SDN member that will be at Case 2009 class 😛

I think it’s a good idea to meet before school and get to know each other as we will spend 4 years of our lifetime together working towards the same goal.

A bit about myself, I graduated from Mayfield High School in Cleveland and then got my BS from Cleveland State University. I moved from San Francisco to Cleveland 8 years ago, but originally came from "cold mother Russia" 😀 Feel free to PM me anytime 👍

L@@king forward on meeting all of you!

Moving from Cali to Cleveland is like moving from Paris to Hicksville  But don't be afraid 😀, assimilation process won't take long, trust me 😀 😛 🙄

welcome and can't wait to meet you! (and everyone for that matter 🙂 ) I'm from Michigan so I won't be as far from home as you guys from CA, but I'm still scared to death to move to the big city! I'm sure our class will get aquainted pretty fast though and in no time it'll seem like you have a whole new family in OH (for better or worse 😉 )
