Has anyone received any sort of scholarship from Case? i know they are limited but I am not sure if they send it out with you acceptance letter or after your deposit.
Thanks

Yeah, Dalsky sent me an email about a scholarship offer just a couple days before I would have had to mail in my deposit. (I had received my acceptance letter about a month prior to that.) I ended up turning it down.

Anyone have any good recommendations on where to stay during the interview. I have one coming up in March and I was hoping to stay close to the school. Thanks.

We stayed at the Glidden House. It was really nice and within walking distance from the dental school. I think it is on the expensive side though.

edit: oh ya i forgot to mention... they were gracious enough to extend my checkout time at no charge when i explained that I was interviewing at Case.. so I didn't have to bring all my stuff with me to the interview. 👍

i also stayed at the Glidden House. It's very nice. And like biogirl said it's within walking distance. Although it's a bit pricey...i think i paid something like $140 for the night, i guess it's worth the convenience.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Just got word from David Dalsky that I've been given the academic scholarship at Case!! WOOHOOOO!!! 😍 :hardy:

Congrats! 👍 If you don't mind telling, what was the amount (or PM me)? I'm just curious if it could be the one I turned down....... what was I thinking?!?!?!? I'm wishing I were going to Case now, but it's too late since my deposit deadline has passed and Dalsky told me no exceptions are made for late deposits. 🙁

I PM'd you 🙂

would you mind telling me your stats?

How are students qualify for the scholarships at Case?

Thanks 🙂

Congrats.

About a month ago, the admissions office told me they gave out all the scholarships... you must have got yours after someone who got the same offer decided to go to another school.

Either way, you earned it. 😉

at the interview they told us that they start giving them away at 3.8+ and 20+ on all sections. I have the GPA but several of my DAT sections were somewhat below 20 (PAT 17, math 17, bio 19). I, like Mo007, called around a month ago and was told they were all gone... plus I recieved mine this week rather than with my Dec. 1 acceptance letter... all of which supports the hypothesis that someone else recently turned theirs down (whoever it is, thank you!! 😍 ) and I was next in line for it. 😀 As an aside, a friend of mine at my school received an identical scholarship the same day. So i guess if you have good stats its never too late to hope that someone will change their mind and you will receive a surprise in the mail 😀

So Mo007... i noticed your sig changed... where else did you get in? congrats and g/l making your decision 🙂

Has anyone done the application for the Case Signature Loan yet? I just finished my fafsa so I thought I'd go ahead and get started on this one too... anyways my question is, when you sign up you have to pick a campus from a drop-down box and the only campuses listed for Case are "Case Western Reserve University" and "School of Medicine". which one am I supposed to pick if "Dental" is not listed? case students who did this last year, do you remember?

also,... where can I find the "student/spouse affidavit of 2004 Income" which my instruction sheet from Case says I have to fill out if i'm not filing taxes this year?

Are you doing the Case signature application online? What is the link for that? I thought that the financial aid office said that it wouldn't be ready until the 18th of this month.

the case signature loan application and the case application for federal aid are two totally separate things (ya its confusing!) the website for the signature loan as listed on the gold-colored sheet in our interview packet is www.laureate.salliemae.com. the website for the case app for federal aid is what they are supposed to send us this week.

here is how i slice it: when you fill out fafsa, fafsa sends a report of your expected family contribution to case. then case looks at the fafsa report and the case app for federal aid and they decide how much federal money you should get. THEN, sallie mae looks at your case signature loan application and figures out how much you need to cover the rest of cases stated budget (budget-federal loan amount-EFC) and that is how much they offer you for the signature loan (assuming you meet credit requirements or have a cosigner). then case and sallie mae get together and offer you a package that they figure should cover you for the year.
clear as mud 😉

You should select Case Western Reserve University.

After receiving your Case's in-house application,FA office will send you the form to fill out.

sorry to bug you again but.. what do I pick for the "choose a private lender" one? (student loan funding, 5/3 bank or bank 1)

Stop! Don't go any further from this point. You will receive more instructions from Sallie Mae. Just finish up your fafsa and Case's in-house financial application.

Case Western Reserve University recently submitted an electronic application that is currently available for you to complete on the Web. This is an important step in securing a student loan for your education. In order to complete the loan application process, you may access the application on the Web at: http://finaid.cwru.edu/rd.aspx?476C. Once you have completed your portion, we will be able to continue processing your loan request. You will need to sign and mail the promissory note or, if available, electronically sign the promissory note via the Web according to the directions that you will receive during the application process. If you do not have access to the Internet, please contact us toll-free at (888) 799-5118 for further assistance. If you do not plan to attend Case Western Reserve University, please contact the school's Financial Aid Office to cancel your loan request.

Thank you for your cooperation.

For those who go to Case, do all the professors give you notes to follow during lectures? Do you have to buy textbooks? If so, for which classes did you find it helpful? I hope to not buy too many though...

Most of the professors will give you notes. Some ain't, you have to show up in class to take notes (General and Oral Histo).. Only Gross Anatomy books were helpful. Many other books I have bought purposely, just to carry them around and show off to those hot dental, medical and undergrad girls ... and my thick eyeglasses    (seriously). 😀 😀

Any CANADIANS heading for case??

Do you guys know if we poor canadians can get any bursaries or student loans or anything?

Watching the exchange is painful... ha haa!

None what-so-ever. Your best bets are credit line from banks (RBC has a good one), Canadian government loans (petty cash though), and CanHelp (though not recommend unless it is the last option).

I'm assuming that none of these are... interest free loans though, right? i would assume that an institution would be interested in lending money to health care professionals interest free until they graduate. i guess not?

Just wanted some confirmation that there really wasn't anything... and not that I wasn't looking hard enough.

Unless you are rewarded a scholarship, the only thing that come close to an interest free loan is the Canadian Loans where interests only begins 6 months after you've graduated. Otherwise, I don't think any corporate or private company would be dumb enough to lend you money without much incentive for them. You might be able to beg companies to see if they would be interested to give you some sponsor money.....

Did anyone get the link for the finacial aid, I thought they said we would have it by the 18th, or am I the only one who didn't get it. Maybe I'm jumping a little too soon here, and just need to settle down. Sorry if I seem a bit anxious.

whatever happend to Mo007?

this guy was very informative about the application process... you can watch but you can't hide Mo!!! 😀

For those of you that are planning on attending Case was it your first choice or did it become your first choice after visiting the school. I know it is a top notch school (I even had an interviewer from Arizona talk about how great it was) but do you feel that it is worth the money over many of the state funded schools? I haven't had my interview there yet (March 23) but I am pretty encouraged by the school from looking on this thread. It seems that many people are very excited about Case and I was just a little curious at to why. My wife is a little more excited about living in Cleveland instead of Buffalo (the only place I have been accepted so far) as well, even for the extra 100K in tuition.

it was actually my second choice after my state school but i didn't get into the state school and i think this was a very good next choice. I was not that excited about the area, but i liked the actual school a lot, definitly more than the other schools I visited. The school was the most modern I saw other than marquette and the people at case were much more friendly than those at marquette. I think i will get really excellent clinical experience at case, this is the positive aspect to being located in a less than nice area. also throughout the application process the "customer service" at case has been the best combination of friendly and efficient of the schools I have dealt with and i think this is probably a favorable reflection of how they conduct other business at the school. sooo.. that's why i'm excited to go there 🙂 about the money... yeah it's expensive. i was pretty bummed about the cost too and that is one of the main reasons why the state school was my first choice despite not liking the actual school as much. can't help ya there..

hey, for those going to case next year - i called the financial aid office today and she said that instead of just having the case signature loan, she is putting together a larger variety of alternative loans this year and that we will get more info about those sometime soon. she also said the main financial aid office had told her the application for aid would be out by the 18th but they haven't gotten it to her yet, so that is why we didn't get the email last week like we were supposed to. just thought i'd pass along the latest info in case anyone was interested. 🙂

Hey thats great. I wonder if that means we'll have more funds available to us? Since I'll be trying to support a family, I need all the clams I can get.

thanks bioG, I was about to call Case today but then decided to give some one else a shot... 😀

hopefully, this whole financial aid process won't take much time... i hate paperwork crap.

anything financial aid related barbara will take care of for you, in terms of telling you what to fill out, when to fill out, etc. and thank goodness too, bc i know very little about those matters...in fact, i had arrived in cleveland 3 days before orientation and that's when i sat down with her to apply for the signature loan (extra money on top of the unsub/sub stuff). so DON'T WORRY 🙂

No man. The past several posts have been on this topic. CASE SDM is still waiting on the stuff from the main office.

So - when it the financial package expected from the financial aid office?

Have people decided to look for apartments yet? - and is anyone here looking for a roommate? 😀

by the way... I finally decided to attend CASE over OSU. 😉

Hmmm....let's see... CSU=$140,000 vs Case=$240,000 and on a top of everything else leaving lovely Columbus 🙂 ?!!!! You must have very good reasons for that change to come. Please.... share with us.. 🙄

You are going to ask me that question in front everybody?, I thought you was going to PM me or something man!

I thought CASE offered more of what I was looking for in dental school than OSU, even though OSU is the better deal, I personally think CASE produces highly confident clinicians. The dentist I shadowed with was a professor from CASE... I learned more about the school through her, which lead me to choosing CASE. Cost of tuition is something that eventually takes cares of itself... but choosing the right education is one that sticks around forever. 🙄

Your turn... How about you? - why did you turn down OSU interview? 😀

I am pretty sure the financial aid package doesn't get offered until sometime over the summer just before school starts... we haven't even gotten the info about the case application or the alternative loans yet, so i think all we can do for now is send in the fafsa and our w2's and tax returns. also i think we are suppose to turn in our parents w2s and tax returns if we put their information on the fafsa which is recommended. the rest of the paperwork should be getting sent to us sometime soon.

I'm going out there with a friend who will also be in our class to look for apartments in a couple of weeks. Hopefully if not much is available since kids are still in school I would be able to get on a waiting list for when people start leaving in the summer. My hope is to get something as close as possible to the school.

so mo007 - looking forward to meeting you in the fall. 🙂

faaaackk... just got accepted to michigan... back to the drawing board on decisions 🙄 i've always wanted to go to michigan because of the location and proximity to my home, and cause it is rediculously inexpensive for residents. but seriously i think case has much more to offer program wise. ugghhhh!! 😕 😕 😕
