I'll probably hear from Miami on Thursday and from FSU on Tuesday. My interview at USF is this week, so I won't be hearing from them real soon. I am still eagerly waiting for an invitation from UF.

How did you like UM? I just interviewed there last friday, I have to wait till the 25th. USF will tell you the wednesday the week after you interview, they are pretty fast.

goooooood luck.

definitely, congrats to americanangel, jbl and anyone else i may have missed, you guys are set, thats awesome, USF is awesome!

I got the " Hold Status" email from FSU, I have spoken to them about it and they say they will make a final decision in March. Anyone have an idea how many people they may actually take from the interview Hold list? I know they were waiting on my second mcat as well, although i hope thats not why they waitlisted me.

Thanks guys!!! Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear...I know you will all get some good news!!! Just be patient!:luck:

Dr. Markowitz from FAU made phone calls on Sunday to let people know that they got in.

FSU puts a high percentage of people on hold because they like to have a broader picture of who's interviewing before making final decisions. In other words, they want more people interviewed before they come to a conclusion rather then making premature decisions without seeing whether someone interviewed later may actually be someone they'd rather have.

Its not necessarily a rejection so don't look at it that way.

Nevermind...i figured out that you're a troll Paps Meer

UF gave me the oh so wonderful news of "Hold Status" today. I knew thats what I was going to get but really was hoping for something different. Hopefully either FSU or USF will give me an immediate acceptance so that I don't have to spend all the money I don't have on more interview travelling... :luck: to everyone, myself included, for the remainder of the week.

Congrats to those who have received acceptances! I have many secondaries to fill out today. :scared:

How did they let you know? I emailed Robyn and she said decisions were snail mailed.

You were put on hold at UF??? I'm surprised you suspected that would happen. With your stats, you look like a great choice. Actually, we seem to be very similar applicants (ha, except I tutor for Kaplan). I haven't submitted my secondary to UF yet, now I wonder if there's any point...

Anyway, sorry for the bummer news

EDIT: Also, why didn't you apply to Miami? You almost certainly would have heard good news from them today.

The hold list at UF is not like a waitlist. Not many people at all are given outright acceptances this early. At the interview she said only a couple would be accepted, a couple rejected, and a lot hold listed. I was expecting it. 90% of the people who get an acceptance go through the "hold" phase here they said.

Did she said when they were mailed? I wanna know now 🙁
They were mailed earlier today. Don't get your hopes up too high for an outright acceptance. Thats what I did and now Im in a really poor mood. When I asked her when they were going out she said that letters were being mailed to all applicants today. If acceptances, it would be packets, not letters. So I have a feeling not many acceptances went out, just holds and rejections...

Like Guju said of FSU, I think it's just that they want to wait to get more people interviewed. I think Guju said that Miami does something similar, but waits even longer to let applicants get offers from other places. Hopefully I remembered this correctly.

So how does UF work? I was placed on hold and not yet offered an interview. Are there two hold batches? I don't want to go to UF anyway, but I'm curious as to how this works.

If you submit your secondary and they do not want to interview you right away, then your application is put on hold or deferred temporarily. Now, if you have an interview and they do not want to accept you right away, then you are put onto an alternate list/hold list. Most kids at UF are put on this alternate/hold list because UF likes to keep the class seats open until April to give kids an equal chance who get interviewed in the spring. Then, once they have completed their interviews, they will start pulling students off the list and all is right in the world once again.

So what the point of this pre-interview hold list? It seem counterintuitive. You place people on hold, then interview and then put them on hold again.

The list at UF is not an alternate list. They have a hold list and they have an alternate list. The latter is the "waitlist". The former is simply a list that is held throughout the admissions process and reviewed every couple of months.

You have not applied to any Florida school. We have some great schools, why not apply here in Florida as well.
I really wanted to try for a large city and I had a lot of other schools to apply to and couldn't afford to add more.

Yeah I understand but I still don't see the logic in it! Oh well I guess that med school admissions!

For those who applied early to UF, did the secondary instructions document say "You may not receive notification of a Committee decision until March; please be patient."? Or is this only put on there for those who applied later in this cycle?

No it says that for everybody. Mine says that and I applied in July!

UF is like that with a lot of stellar applicants, some of whom have gotten in better schools in terms of rankings then UF.

In some cases the hold status is just so they could evaluate a few more interviewees before making premature decisions. In other cases it doesn't really change til much later and leads to waitlist.

You may still have a chance. They will probably give a lot of acceptances out around december when they've interviewed most of their fall interviewees.

AA,

have you interviewed at other places?? If so, where is your first choice as of now if you get in anywhere else???

No no I didn't say anything about Miami. I said that about UF and FSU.

Last year and the year before, UF did this thing where they put several applicants on hold but take quite a few of them off right around on december once they've interviewed more candidates. That's how it worked out for a friend who's now a med student at UF.

There's still hope but it is just a more frustrating wait.

USF, however, I have good faith will give TPR some luck.

Looking at TPROrgo Tutor profile and how UF ended up treating him surprises me. His profile is way better than their average in past years and although I think they will offer him a slot sometime later in this game of poker. They are also risking losing him in exchange for a lesser qualified applicant in the end. Good luck TPROrgo, you have great accomplishments and you will do o.k.

I had an interview scheduled for George Washington and FSU. Both of which
I'm cancelling. I definately don't want to go to DC and I'm not a big fan of Tallahassee. My top choice was definately USF. Although I was thinking about Baylor for a little while. Honestly, I don't want to leave the state especially since I want to practice here in the long run.

I'm in Heaven though about USF. First interview and first acceptance. I haven't heard anything from UF or Miami and I'm not really expecting it, since they never tend to email me back. USF is where I want to be!!!

Last year Robyn Sheppard from UF called accepted people on the morning of Oct. 15. No one here got a call? Are they just not doing that this year? 😕

Hopefully she didn't do it this year, if not none of us got accepted lol 🙁. She didn't mention that she would call anyone during the interview day; she did mention that we will know this week.

Hmm. I guess they're doing things differently this year. Well, good luck to everyone waiting to hear. But yeah, like TPR said, most of you are gonna go on hold for a while. 🙁

so angel, you decided to do USF for sure?

Rajad, If gambling was legal in Florida or we were from Nevada I would have bet that angel will indeed go to USF.

Of all the campuses I have visited I was most impressed by USF folks. The people that I interacted with during interview process were very professional and friendly, so there is a strong possibility that I will be your classmate as well. If I had only known this earlier I would have done what you did and not wasted my time visiting other campuses. Hey, how is the housing situation around campus?

that's great to hear, hopefully you'll get the same results as ameriangel and I. Housing - I have no idea, i have yet to look at any of that and any of the financial aid info. im dreading it, but not as much as I was dreading the whole application process

According to some profile on MDapplicants, he was informed by phone for his acceptance to UF 10/16. I guess all the people waiting for the letter in the mail are being put on hold. Great.

Yup great to hear : / oh well, doesn't surprise me, UF has their ways. They rejected me in undergrad while UM accepted me with scholarship lol :-D, go figure. I'm sure we will hear good news from them in the future.
