Is there anyone out there going to NYU...

I see alot of acceptances but who is actually going to be there in the fall??

Just curious... cause it looks like I'll be on that boat...

so who's gonna be with me?

I'll be going to NYU too.....I'm excited and nervous at the same time....moving to NY....it's going to be amazing. I know it's a big class but I hope we get to know most of our classmates and won't be competitive with each other.

did you guys get your housing packet yet and have you decided if you're gonna live on or off campus? I was considering on campus myself... pretty pricey, huh??

I live 20 mins from NYU so i'll be living with my parents. Saves money! 🙂
 
How do we get our housing package??

Did u request it? or did they just send it?

Also have u guys received this medical health exam package??? If we're supposed to fax it, why did they send an envelope??? 😕 😕 😕
Am I missing something?

When did you guys interview and how long was it before you were accepted?
 
my interview was on feb 2 and I was accepted about a month later.
 
interviewed march 1
accepted 2 weeks later
 
Thanks for the input. I'm still waiting to hear back from my interview last week. I've made NYU my #1 choice. I fell in love with the school and the city!
 
i haven't received a thing from nyu since the acceptance letter. i sent in my deposit for $500. 😎
 
call amy knowles and make sure that they have recieved your deposit!
 
I'm new to this site, so forgive me if my inquiry is misplaced. It looks like everyone replying to this thread is a future NYU student (2008 class). I have an interview this coming week and although the class is probably full I've decided to attend and do my best and see what happens. Do any of you out there know what the current situation is and can you give me any advice about the interview process? Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Lake04, don't be discouraged by the fact you're interviewing late. NYU offers interviews and accepts application all the way until June 1 so there are still some empty seats left. This is what I've heard.
 
also, keep in mind that NYU accepts like 250! I don't know what the class looks like now but the fact that people have to make some sort of choice before they have to put there big deposit down, I wouldn't be suprised that spots are going to open up soon! Just hang in there...

I am going to NYU and i can't wait.

I was interviewed in Nov and accepted in Dec 🙂

I have also received my housing app but i am not sure were to live. I am kinda thinking about the Twenty-sixth street apartment Residence just b/c it is close to the school and the b/c it has air conditioning(i am from Texas and i know how badly air cond. is needed here but i am not sure if it is that big an issue in New York).

Have anyone of you guys made up your minds if so were do you want to live?

I too have finally decided on NYU as my school. Nice to hear from you guys. I didn't get a housing application yet but I'm thinking about the 26th street apartment as well. The location is nice although it's gonna be expensive. Darcy, do you know how they assign roommates? Or if you can choose the person that you want to room with?
 
im waiting to get my health form. i cant wait to go either. its a great school.

I'm excited about NYU too....I've heard good and bad things about the school but I don't care, I've made my decision and I'm sticking to it. The next four years in NY, it doesn't get any better than this.

While I was at the interview for NYU i had a chance to the 26th St. apartments and they're pretty decent. Small but it's not old or crusty.....

I think they assign roomates, but I also think there were some solo apartments but they were more expensive.

i got my health assessment form today. i also got my housing form which i dont need since i am staying where i am.
 
Where are you staying big dogg? Is it near campus and how's the rent? Please share with us if you don't mind. I wish I was from NYC so I didn't have to spend all summer being both excited and worried. But I guess that's also a part of the fun. 🙂
 
i live in manhattan about 20 min subway ride from nyu and pay about $1300/month + utilities

im a first year at NYU and i also live in the 26th street Apts (although im moving at the begin. of may) so i can answer and Qs about the dorms or the school. last year i recieved lots of info from SDN and it helped me, so now ill give a bit back.

-26 street Apts are definitely small, but very liveable- they are 5 min from class (you get 1 hour between classes, so come home and eat!)
-about 20 out of the 26 floors here are all dental students you will get to know and hang out and party with many of your classmates here (also helps to study together)
-most rooms are private bedroom/share bath & living space- roommates are assigned based on prefs you select (smoke/ noise level/ neatness factor) but if you know someone you can choose your roommate!
-1st year isnt bad, if you put your time in studying youll do well and still have time to enjoy the city on weekends !!

ANY other Qs hit me up. 😱

Hi and thanks for offering your help. I have a few questions for you. First of all, how big / small are the rooms over at 26th St. Apts (basically, is there just enough space for desk, dresser, bed, and a little walking space)? Also, when are dental students typically allowed to move into the dorms? I need to know this because my parents are very busy with work and need to know well in advance when they plan to see me off to NYC. 🙂 Finally, are there any negative factors about 26th that made you decide to move out in May? That's all I have for now. Thanks again!
 
So these rooms on 26th st....do you actually share one bedroom with another person...or is it like a suite where you each have your own separated area/room? I'm just curious cause i have a friend going there.
 
From what I've read, it seems like these apartments have 2 bedrooms so you don't actually share your bedroom but you do share the living area, kitchen, and bathroom are shared. There are also single occupancy apartments / studios. Perhaps someone who's seen or lived in one can better explain or correct me if I'm wrong.

So why are you moving out and where are you moving? Also when is a good time to start looking for apartments?
 
esspressive, do you think its a bad idea to live off campus? do you hang only with people in the dorms or do you have good friends that don't live around there also from nyu dental?
 
there are 3 options at 26th street
-private bedroom, share kitchen/bath
-share 1 larger (slightly) bedroom kitchen/bath
-your own one bedroom apt

I am moving to a building on 30th street- larger rooms, nice kitchen/bath, roofdeck on building, same rent.

I do have friends who live in other areas of city- but my closest friends are all here somewhere in this building.
Not a bad idea to live off campus but definitely more work upfront- must look at apts- some are crappy spaces, or bad buildings- most want guarantors (which make about 80x your rent!), and they only show apts 3-4 weeks ahead of move in. I was from PA so i didnt have time to deal with this stuff.
 
How does one go about looking at apartments? Who do you contact to see the apartments available?

The health form should be on its way to you its just to make sure your healthy and not spreading anything leathal (joke) 🙂 . It is to make sure you have all your shots updated plus some other stuff like Hep B and C (i think).
 
anyone fill out the fafsa stuff yet? When are we supposed to do this? I know told us about applying online but should we have done this already?
 
My understanding was that FAFSA should be filled out ASAP. It helps expedite the processing of your financial aid package. Do it online, it's so much better and easier than paper.
 
So has everyone sent it in already?
 
yeah, i sent mine in a while back. my concern is making sure they got it. i would hate to find out in june that they never got it. i spoke with the lady in the financial aid office who simply said that we will be sent an award letter in june.
 
Does NYU keep sending u letters via UPS.....I've had 3 this week alone....and most of the time it's just one page letters reminding me of stuff and that is not important or doesn't apply to me like FAFSA (cause I'm Canadian 🙄 )

Is this how my deposit is being wasted????? 😡 😡 😡
 
everything i receive comes by regular mail....maybe its an overseas thing. i live in manhattan.

Just received a letter today stating that we need to apply for fafsa online asap.

I am privileged of getting the acceptance letter today from NYU. I am excited for heading NYU, look forward to seeing ya'al.

Let me be among the first to congratulate you. I remember you from one of the other threads and all the worrying you were doing at that time. I'm sure you're glad all that's over with. BTW, you said ya'al. You're not from the SOUTH too are you?🙂 Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting each and every one of you people.
