It's a legit question/concern, so let's try to keep the discussion on course.

The general advice is "no dent-cest" but I already see it happening in my class with maybe two couples. They keep it on the down-low, at least for now. It's a personal decision and there is a lot that can be stressful if it doesn't work out. But there are a lot of benefits too, as in the unique understanding about what you're going through. In terms of people talking about it, of course people talk about it but they aren't immature about it. That is a difference between high school and dental school.

Actually, not as much as you think. There is a definite similarity in the lack of maturity in some departments, and the fact that you are seeing these folks for, what, at least five days a week strong suggests a NO to fooling around with your classmates. Much better to keep things professional since you are going to be dealing with these folks for four years. Yes, you are spending a lot of time with them, but if you can't make time for your self to do some things outside of school, then I'd say it's high time to re-evaluate life and figure out a way for a more balanced life.

i hope not.

also, the problem isn't the question itself, the problem is that you should be able to figure out the answer to this question by your 16th birthday, and not be needing to ask a forum a question about basic social functions. if you can't figure out how to have a social life by the time you're done with college then don't worry about it because you'll never need to learn.

Well, it's one thing to ask about how people will judge you for certain social behaviors, but I diagree with your last sentence. As somone who's delt with social anxiety, trust me when I say that even basic social interactions can be difficult. Social skills are necessary in adulthood as well. Imagine being a specialist who depends on GPs to refer patients - you have to be able to schmooze with other doctors to get patients sent your way. People who have social difficulties will find that aspect of the profession more challenging.

There are a lot of factors that can affect a person's ability to develop social skills. For most people it's a natural process that just sort of happens during childhood and adolescence, but for some people, it's not as easy.

Can we swing back to the fact that the OP has posted earlier about being attracted to / considering going to be with two girls, MEANWHILE also posted about her "husband" who is a pharmacist???

How was this not discussed in more length? If that's the truth, then calling someone a ***** behind a computer seems perfectly legit, ha

What I said exactly! Where the eff is her husband in all this "sleeping with your classmates" nonsense??

this wh*** should probably change her hair color or her hair style once she starts classes. Come on, she is not that stupid. Oh wait she is blonde

I do not care if they check SDN or not! Who cares? Why? Because i will go to class, study hard and might party hard. Thats my life and business. Do not tell me how to live! That is the type of person i am, i am outspoken and sometimes seem to be ignorant. If you do not like it, do not respond to this thread!

hey there are plenty of students who party, but keep it classy and off the internet. you should and will care what your collegues and professors think of you. it's part of being a professional. don't get me wrong...i will go out and act the fool (to a point) but i'm not online telling stories about it. kdawg is a well liked and respected classmate at MWU so do yourself and our school a favor by taking his advice, thanking him for the heads up, apologize to him in a PM and be more responsible next time.

This is so inappropriate for a pre-dental forum. I've wasted 3 minutes of my life to respond to this ridiculous thread!

I have been quiet all day but I have to step in on this one.

I mean do you think you are the King of Midwestern or something? Telling people what to do and how to act. Do this, do that, if you do ___ we will try to get you kicked out.

Telling people to apologize and how to go about it...

no i'm not the king of anything. i am a representitive of our school. i'm not getting anyone kicked out. but be aware that you are a dental student now and will now be held to a higher standard of conduct. yes...if you want to go online and run your mouth about our school...AND you go to our school!....our school is gonna know about it. there is a reason that you've been quiet all day, you ran your mouth and then had to go erase 500 dissrespectful posts. neither of you will most likely get in any trouble; but let it be known that this nonsense can't go on. i got a lot of requests via PM from YOUR CLASSMATES waitlisted, to take this trash to the adcom and the dean. now i'm not the judge or jury but don't you think your classmates have spoken on the issue? i'm not personally pissed at either of you but i am dissappointed. your buisness is your buisness until you post in online and then it's the world's buisness. you are both at the next level in your lives, so it's time to act the part or face the consequences.

It's funny that waitlisted forgot the post he replied to not that long ago...

I think there definitely are certain aspects of dentistry that might cause even someone who doesn't have social anxiety to be concerned. I've already been wondering whether i would have any trouble making the social connections that I would need if i were to specialize. but the op's concerns don't fall into this category. and also, if you have social anxiety my last sentence might have been completely wrong, but i think its pretty safe to assume OP was asking because they're stirring up trouble and not because they're really worried about it.

Everyone one makes mistakes, IMO you need to just man up and apologize and move on. Can you really deny the things you said were stupid? Just admit you were wrong, and all it can do is earn you everyones respect.

30 seconds of "uber pwnage"...i think that's how you spell it...

This is a thread on sleeping with your classmates, not on school rankings. Let's keep things on track. Waitlisted, you should sleep with OracleDMD.

Well it sounds like she has already mad up her mind. To anser your question, I would sleep with a classmate, but it sounds like your going to sleep with your classmates. So this is the deal, from what i have been reading you love the spotlight and when word sprends (in school that you are a tool sleeping with everyone) you wont be able to handle it and the multiple personality problem with once again reveal its ugly head. I am sure most students find a partner to shag with, but leave it to a partner: not the entire class lol.

We all know that's inevitable. It's only a matter of time before these two classmates become lovers.

For those of you who are about to, or wanting to go to dental school, here's a little bit of advice.

You are about to enter no ordinary profession. You have been entrusted a responsibility that few people have. You have been granted the ability to irrevocably alter a humans body. You are held to a higher standard than the general public and you have to conduct yourself in a manner befitting such a profession. It's not as simple as going back and editing out your posts once you're in the real world.

We aren't quite so anonymous online as we once were, so it's a lot easier to dig up past histories that you may wanted to have stayed hidden. Be a little more prudent next time before you post. Watch what you say in public too. The person standing next to you overhearing your casual conversation with your friend might end up being that new patient you'll meet later that day.
