Word says it's 4998, VMCAS says it's too big

VMCAS has some counting issues or isn't making their counting clear. My PS in Word is under the max by 2 characters and yet VMCAS says it's over 5K. Anyone else having this problem?

ETA: Looks like carriage returns count as characters. Deleted one word and two commas and am now at 4989 according to the gate keeper.

If push comes to shove, paste it into Notepad or something like that - it should remove any unknown formatting.
