Ok, why did UNE have to be such a great school! I knew it was a good school, but as the interview day progressed, I really realized what a great program/student body/ethic/cohesive tight knit medical family with great facilities in a beautiful location it is! So, by the time my interview rolled around, I was nervous, because it went from "Oh, I've got already got an acceptance, so no sweat" to "wow, I would love to go here, so I hope I make a good impression!" What I actually ended up doing was a mime impression! (groan, don't ask)

Anyway, you UNECOM students are one lucky bunch! And your Dean is cool!

Sorry Dr. Kuba, but you are going to really like it!

Good luck, y'all! 🙂

yah i'll have to say, i really loved the school too. if i dont get into nycom, i'll definitely go there.

👍 to UNECOM

goodluck!

How did you learn about osteopathy?
What is your spirituality?
Are you interested in continuing research?
Tell us about your research
What do you do to relax? (enter mime😳)
How well can you function after being awake for long perids of time?
Questions specific to my file

I would like an interview do-over, please!😀

Geez - I only WISH those were my questions!!

Well, sometimes I could even goof up "What is your name?" I just don't always interview well. Oh well!
I mean I actually did a quick "I'm trapped in a box" and "tugging on invisible rope!" Did I get a laugh? Not so much! Damn nerves! Arrrgggghh!

Why did they ask that? How did you answer?

Why? Dunno. I don't think they care if you are religious, or anything. Answered, Buddhism. Probably just wanted to know what is a source of strength during hard times.

How come you didn't tell them the truth?

That you are the high Knight of KITT at the Church of DaHoff of Baywatch, CA.

Well, I didn't want to brag.

Don't think that means anything, people. When i interviewed last year I was also asked that... and answered that it was a highly personal thing, but also that i didn't subscribe to any particular "religion" (I think I recall stating that many religions were not much better than large cults but that most people believe in something. that started a whole other conversation about why, and what, and how come, and... well, that's not important). They just want to get to know you, who you are, if you're open to new ideas, new ways of thinking, different ways of thinking ('cuz you're going to get patients with different thoughts than you have, believe me).

It's just a question. They are certainly not pushing religion on you. It's just a question. If you get accepted, you will probably get this pamphlet late spring with information about all kinds of religions and where the places of worship are. Including pagan, wiccan (sp?), catholic, buddhist, muslim, you name it. It was quite a list with some religions I'd never ever heard of.

Even Zoroastrianism?

I have an interview there next week. I hope it goes well because UNECOM is one of only three schools that I'm applying to, and one of them still hasn't invited me for an interview yet.

Who did you interview with? Those sounds alot like my questions?

Sorry, didn't see this initially! I don't think I should post their names, but will give initials. I interviewed with a female OMS II(initials T.W.) and a male DO, clinical prof family medicine (I think he's a pathologist, though, initials A.V.) He seemed a bit stoic, and doesn't like mimes! 😀

Ok, since nobody commented, I will ask directly: How badly do you all think my impromptu mime thing hurt me? I was nervous, and much to my horror, it just kinda popped out in answer to "what do yuu do to relax?" Total duration: 3 seconds, said I was kidding, then answered question seriously. I like my sense of humor, but sometimes its on autopilot (and apparently, sometimes not funny!) At least I didn't do any Mummenshantz.

Did I mention the breakdancing, beatboxing, or yodeling?

A.V. is really a wonderful nice guy. I think he's looking to see if the person in front of him matches the application. For my interview, one of my LORs stated I was a person of "unusual candor". He tested that. I passed with flying colors. Many of the interviewers look for depth of character, passion (yes, in something other than medicine sometimes), and honesty.

Don't worry about it. It's over... just relax.

Yeah, you're right. Thanks! (disassembles self-flagellation machine...)

🙂

Agreed. A.V is actually an incredibly neat and nice person. He also has a great sense of humor!

haha! thats my usual attire, but i forgot my tie, so i bought a green and blue tie from TJ max here in biddeford! lol I will probably be the only one in a 3-piece suit.

OH - and good luck y'all. i'm gonna try to sleep in for once. then i'm gonna hit the books and try to catch up on my reading and complete some objectives. Good thing I feel pretty ok so far about histo lab. 🙂

by the way, i expected nothing out here but the shopping area by exit 32 is pretty large and I see it is growing. Also, downtown biddeford seems like a nice little downtown area.

I checked out the school tonight..(parked in the dean's spot:meanie: ).. and it seems very similar in layout to UMDNJ, but I like the lecture halls a lot more. Seems like an awesome school and I am looking forward to the interview and tour tomorow. Anyone know what time we get out?

Ok, I'm now convinced I made an unfunny idiot out of myself, right into a rejection! 🙁 Should I send him a stripping female police officer to "apprehend" him to make amends? 😀

Good luck to all who are interviewing tomorrow!

Let me know how it all turns out Dr. Kuba!😉 It's over noonish.

Alright, 4 hours of sleep should be enough, right?:scared:

Sure! Hey, if you find yourself in a tight spot during your interview, please choose from the following options to quickly regain your footing:

1) The Macarena
2) Y-M-C-A!
3) The Wave (your interviewers will join right in!)
4) You moonwalk, right?
5) The Robot (actually good for entire interview)
6) The Electric Slide (boogie oogie oogie!)
7) Ventriloquism
8) Magic!
9) Pig Latin
10) Solve Rubik's Cube
11) Juggle ping pong balls with your mouth
12) Eat Fire! (ooooh)
13) Eat your lunch
14) Eat their lunch
15) Answer their questions in burp-speak (especially convincing after numbers 13 or 14, lending verisimilitude)

You are so funny! We need more doctors with a sense of humor!

DrKuba, dgriss1....what did you think? I liked it👍

loved it....right up my alley-

liked:
down to earth
cool place (maybe live on the beach? still able to hit the mountains)
small
non-competitive
OMM lab
Maine
nice professors/students today
cohesive class
only 1 group of 3-4 students/cadaver
mp3 lectures on line
note service
flexibility of 4th year clinic rotations (pretty much anywhere)

not like:
3rd year sites? Have to move-tough if buying a house or have an S.O. that is established in work
lottery system for clinicals in 3rd year.
wish maine med was associated with us and not UVM
lots of 17 yo kids running around campus
curriculm gets changed often
86% pass rates-that is not very high

over all, I am very excited and the interview went well. I would happily attend and I hope to hear from them soon so I can cancel some interviews. I will still wait on CU (in-state tuition), UVM, and Dartmouth b/c I am interested in them as well.

I will post some pics on my pic thread later.

It was great meeting all the SDNers. You were all very nice

Dude, I didn't recognize you without the hair. Good talking to you man.

dgriss, we *are* all down to earth and we really *are* (mostly) very nice. cooperative, noncompetitive. That's us. As for 3rd year clinical sites. Apparently in the past most folks that wanted to stay in Maine did. I'm married, I have a family and we bought a house. Figured I'll try to stay in Maine for years 3, perhaps most of 4. Then we'll all move wherever I go for residency. Being right near home isn't that big... I'd be happy going to Augusta too. Not that far away.

As for Maine Med... there is hope there. Apparently the new director of medical education is a UNE grad. So there is the distinct possibility of the affiliation changing SOON. *insert wicked grin here*

The undergrads don't really associate a whole lot with the med students. You see some, but generally you're too busy in classes or studying to pay attention to them. Or them to you.

The pass rates. That's the reason behind the changing curriculum. As the boards evolve, so must the curriculum as well. And I thought it spoke volumes they were looking at it constantly to try and do the best job possible. Some folks don't deal well with the change, but there is a method to the madness behind the change (read: biochem currently).

As for CU. good luck. I didn't even score an interview last year. NOTHING. Or the year before that. With nary a reply when I asked why. Almost like they pretended I never existed at all. And yes, I was instate. Been rooting against the Broncos ever since just out of spite.

Dude, I didn't recognize you without the hair. Good talking to you man.

Dave, I didnt recognize you either! I was the only person of "color" there 😛

Don't know what you meant by of "color" but I think I know who you are. Best of luck in the process. 🙂

It was all great meeting you today. I recognized a few of you and felt somewhat familiar. The interview was very relaxing and conversational. It has been a long way that we have traveled to get here. I feel we should all be proud to make this far and best luck to you all with your process.

Another one! 👍

Man, I wish I would have had my interview on SDNer day! Good luck! Anybody know when the next adcom brouhaha is? And I was wondering: what is the weight of the interview on a decision? Is it based solely on interview performance, as in everything you did up to the point of the interview is merely to actually get one, or if they include everything that is in your file? And if you flop on a part of the interview, do you basically flop on all? I want my mommy!

Hey, they did not know exactly when they were going to meet. A few of the applicants hinted that it would be nice to hear before Dec 14th. They said it could be anywhere from a week to 4-6 weeks...so mid to late December. They group weeks of interviews together and make decisions in pools. It would have been nice to have a defined schedule though.

Hey guys, just got back from the UNECOM interview/Boston weekend. I agree with the OP, unfortunatley: unecom rocks... so if I get accepted to all 3 schools that I interviewed at I would definitely have a really hard decision. Nice meeting the 4 other SDNers there, even tho I didnt know who kiddingme was until now😛 .

Only negative are high tuition (but lower COL) and no associated residencies other than the RI and FM ones.

Eh - what's "RI"?

Well UNECOM just scared the bajeezus out of me! Got a thin envelope in the mail today and it's an acceptance! and they said it would take 4-6 weeks....😀
