Nice.
Thanks for doing the leg work!
Now all I need is a decent car so as not to disgrace the window sticker, the school, or my fellow Boonshofters.

The bookstore has a good collection of boonshoft items (for OUchris and jj: i'm sure that I saw rear window stickers for boonshoft). The clothing items are pretty standard; tees, sweatshirts, pullovers, polos. They have a lot of non-clothing items too; engraved pen stands (for a nice desk), golf balls, mugs, picture frams, etc.
Well Chris, I've been golfing for well over 10 years and I still wouldn't consider myself very good. The fact that you have a reliable wedge is a great place to build a solid game. I'm able to drive the ball like John Daly but my short game and putting is one of the more hideous things that you can imagine. Together we would make quite the adequate golfer, haha.
Finally, I know that some of us have talked over PM, but using these screen names is a bit impersonal (I think some people have already given their names, but since we keep adding people to our class it may be nice to just give them again). I'm Joshua, graduated from THE Ohio State U. and I am bored out of my mind at work right now. Research downtime can be a killer.
Hey there fellow boonshofters (or boonshoftees). I was in Dayton yesterday looking at apartments and had dinner with a friend who is a 2nd year. She also gave me a quick tour of the new building, and it is quite the nice facility. Anyone make any progress toward housing? Looking for roommates? Anyone get their award statement? Is anyone else loosing their mind waiting for classes to start?
Am I lame for already having purchased a Boonshoft Polo? 😀
Just FYI: if you order one, the sizes seem to run a little big.
JJ - You should just sport the goggles 24/7 once the year starts. Try to get a new trend going.
No, you're not!. ME TOO! And I'm thinking about a hat, but then I ask myself, can I wear blue hats? The answer appears to be a general no.
Hey everybody again...I turn around for five seconds (or two weeks, ha) and this thread zoooooooooomms.
1. Congrats although you're probably done by now, jj, with p-chem. Now kick back, and please, promptly forget everything you've just covered. I'm not sure it will be at all useful.
2. Yay for non-trads and real names (it maybe was getting a little bizarre continually referring to each other by handles. In real life when we meet, polo, however, I'm probably going to still call you "polo" in my head.) I'm Kate, I'm 27, my birthday is in the first week of school, and I'm a nonnnn-tradddy. That is to say I went to a tiny liberal arts college in NY, took serious time off, lived in Israel, tried to become a rabbi....in essence did everything to push my life towards spirituality and faith before deciding my ultimate skills and interest lay in pursuing science. Yes, I know it's weird, and I promise not to lay any bible talk on anybody. Jews don't proselytize, we just cook really well and drag you to bar mitzvah's.
3. I bought the shirt. If a cooler shirt comes out, you will never see me wearing it. I want the car decal. Actually, I want a new car.
4. I am buying the Lenovo X60 and living alone, hopefully in Centerville/Kettering/Oakwood. Near enough for my 11-yr-old car to make it to campus, but far enough away that on the weekends, IN THEORY, I can have my own community life. We shall see.
5. We must have a workout club, because I'm an elliptical/weightlifter kind of girl who also likes to run. And the cooking club. Because when it's not about fitness, FREAKISH AMOUNTS OF STUDYING AND PANIC...uh...it's about food.
See you all soon. If anyone feels like meeting in early June, pm me before the 11th or friend me on facebook, hahahahahahahhaha.
WHERE IS THE FINANCIAL AID.
I think i might stay outta the flag football team...mmmm, maybe.
Chris, Ive been down at WSU many many times to be a part of their social scene...but mostly ...ok at all times i was an Undergrad. lol Its pretty wild...and the house parties are not that great. But, on the other hand, they have some really nice bars around the area that the older more mature crowd goes to (the grad students...lol😉) There is one place that I hear a lot of people go to: Tooties...i think that is how you spell it. But also, many go to Dayton...which is like 10 min away (8 if you drive like me). U know what? I am gonna take up both chris and josh on those first round/second round drinks...ha...u guys are stuck. (j/k, i wont hold you to it b/c it could get expensive buying for all 100 of the new students!)
Everyone is totally wecome to facebook me...except you type in Jessica J.
and I am under the Malone College network. I didnt' put my last name on there, so it may be a little hard to find me. also, send it with a message, b/c i dont accept people who I dont really talk to. alright sweet
everyone have a great weekend!
It's not weird at all!
Actually, this is one of the things that I really like about WSU's tendency to accept so many non-trads. There is so much to learn from people who have had such interesting lives and may have a different perspective on things. See, I've learned something already... I had absolutely know idea what 'proselytize' means, so I had to look it up!
Now, all that said... a fair warning: you stand to learn very, very little from me!![]()
(Please know that I don't mean this to be slight against traditional students, at all! I'm obviously making a broad generalization, here.)
I totally didn't know what it meant either!! Kate has a huge vocabulary! Ive read her blog once or twice and I was always freakin amazed at all the big words she used...if you havent read it, she is an AMAZING writer...i bet she got a T on writing on the MCAT!...as for me...i sucked at the writing and the verbal soooooo bad!
Chris...you are totally right about generalizing about me...most will learn very little from me as well!![]()
Sad news for those who wanted to go to Tuty's bar: it burned down last year. They're rebuilding something, but I don't know if the bar will return...
Facebooking sounds like a great idea. These anonymous forums can sometimes be a lil freaky (no offense). I guess I will try to find Jessica J since she put her name out there. I'm Eli so if you guys want to find me, just PM me!

Divine Furor said:...jj, even on the third round of drinks ON ME, you ain't never gonna know my MCAT essay score. 🙂
Hey guys, so I went down to Dayton this past weekend and got a great April deal for an apartment! Its in Channingway, two bedroom town house (two floors) for 649 a month! I had to take it lol......I hope to god i can afford it, but thats the price of a one bedroom apartment that close to campus anyway.....and its only for one year, too.

By the way... have you guys already received a WSU email? If so, how/when did you get it?
um yes i have, they email me when something has changed on my status. lol...have you not recieved any emails? hahahah go WSU. 😛
I am officially done with my chemistry major.😀 Unfortunetly, since i didnt study for this exam more than 1 day...i might have failed it. I think it was the first time in 4 years i took an exam and didn't know almost all of the info on the test. Im gonna say, in a way, I am getting ready for my medical school exams...bring on the C's!!!
remember everyone...C=M.D.👍
Chris, my verbal was very bad as well as my writing. I had interviewers at one school reassure me that my low score didn't matter and they didn't really focus on it...they looked at my bio/chem scores. I was relieved, but I hadnt brought up the subject...they just noticed the 1-digit verbal score...lol
They've emailed me, but always to the old email that I provided in my application info. At what stage of the game did they say, "Hey, here's your new email"?
I'm chalking all of this up to the fact that I applied/interviewed late...
Good find on the housing. Man, you went from undecided to landing a rental, in one week. Good work. I need to get out there and find something!
I just sent a friend request to you... So, heads up. 👍

Yea, I didnt actually plan on getting housing this soon lol. However, since the prematriculation program starts in June, I just wanted to go down to Dayton and look at places/put my name on a couple waiting lists. Well, after hitting 10 apartments in seriously just 5 hrs (that my friends recommended) I came across channingway. It was the best price and square footage, but I needed to put a deposit down that day in order to get the special price so I just went for it ..even though I made a final decision on wright just like 2 days beforehand.
Thanks for the facebook request Chirs. I am at work now and they block facebook so I will confirm later. Hence, I kill time on studentdoc and google![]()

Actually, I want a new car.
Would you recommend any of those 10? I already took off this Thursday and Friday from my day job to celebrate my birthday. I wasn't planning on going out to look at apartments, but I might do just that...
I'm actually surprised that facebook isn't blocked here at OSU. They block just about everything else.

Please tell me your not serious about spending your birthday looking for apartments. Although, after 21 they do all kind of run together.
Good call on OSU not blocking facebook. I can't believe it either, and it's not just facebook. I was able to set my fantasy football roster, check my gmail, and listen to espnradio over the internet.
Would you recommend any of those 10? I
I also listen to espnradio at my desk ALL day. Originally, I listened to 1460thefan, but they cut off the last hour of The Herd, and quite frankly, that's unacceptable.
Congrats JJ!

I don't know why I chose the dancing banana, but I wanted to use it, and it seemed somewhat appropriate.
The Herd is easily the greatest program on the radio, I actually became an insider so I could listen to the show if I missed it. Best 10 bucks I have ever spent.
Have you tried streaming the show off of espnradio.com? It's the Bristol feed so they won't cut off the last hour. I stopped listening to 1460 when I found out they cut off the Herd to put on Spielman.
I was recommended the following places:
charter woods
enclave
stone falls (this one seemed great, but expensive)
ashton brooke
channingway
wexford
Windsor Place (They don't have single bedrooms if I remember right)
The Highlands (I didnt like this one that much)
There are definitely places cheaper than these. Apartmentguide.com is a good site to quickly browse.
Dude, don't spend your birthday apartment hunting.
Thanks for the welcome lol 👍
Thanks a lot!
Yeah, I've been checking out rent.com, apartmentguide.com, craigslist, etc... but it's hard to get an idea of which places are actually worth renting. They all have similar feedback, and the details are written by the management companies, so it's all biased. So, I appreciate your opinions...
I've also contacted a lot of the places via phone and email, but you can't really do anything without being there in person.
I really hate to dip into my vacation/comp time any more than is necessary, 'cause I'd like OSU to have to write me a big, fat check when I leave. And, I anticipated taking off for my birthday... so what the hell.
Oh yeah, I am taking them to the bank with my vacation time.
It definately seems like we have a fair amount of people in or around Columbus for at least part of the summer. I think we should plan some sort of event, any ideas? Clippers game, Arena football (might be kind of interesting), dinner and drinks in the arena district?

Oh, and by the way, Kate: when you created the thread, thanks for not going overboard with asterisks, backslashes, underscores, yellow moons, orange stars, purple horseshoes and red balloons. Some of these class threads are just ridiculous.
I am planning on moving to dayton from cleveland mid/late june. How far away from dayton are these bars in columbus that you guys are planning on hanging out at? I would definitely like to drive up in the summer time and get everyone a round of drinks......though there seems to be a huge line to buy rounds.....so i guess round 10 is on me.
BTW: When I first heard that WSU school of medicine is being renamed to Boonshoft I thought that was somewhat of an awkward name for a med school. Any thoughts on that?

Well, on a good day it shouldn't take much more than an hour (hour and 15 minutes tops) to drive from Dayton to the Arena District. The only problem is that you have to drive on 70 East, which has the potential to be the worst stretch of freeway known to man. It's predominantly two lanes, chronically under construction, and is used by every freaking car traveling through the state...
Yeah, with all due respect to the Boonshoft family, I typically just refer to the school as Wright St. and leave it at that. I'm sure the folks at Northwestern (Feinberg?), USC (Keck?), Loyola (Stritch?), etc. did/do the same thing. I really don't mind the Boonshoft name, specifically... it's just a mouthful to throw another word in there. It could be the Max Power School of Medicine and I would still call it Wright St.
The dancing banana is always totally appropriate.
Congrats on everything, jj!!!! And are we seriously all going to refer to each other as "boonies"?? I kind of like it, but I sense a big time parody of "Goonies" coming on. I call not-Chunk in advance, even though he was the Jewish member (few people noticed that he starts saying a Hebrew prayer when the mafioso-looking Fratelli brother surprises him in the van in the woods).
holy crap, i hate 70 E. will they ever be done with construction for goodness sakes. Chris your bday is this friday...how old are you gonna be?!?!![]()
Truffle Shuffle!!!
25!
*insert lame party favor sound effect here*
...like they use on The Herd... 'this guy knows what I'm talking about' <pointing at Joshua>
Yup. Quarter of a century... I figure this is roughly the half-way point of my life. At least, when I'm considering the years in which I still have the will to live.
But, hey, I think I get a break on my car insurance now! 👍
