2020-2021 Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It appears that everyone else's portal is requiring two faculty LOR. However, this is what I have in mine and it won't mark complete until the second physician LOR is received. Anyone know why?

Letters of Recommendation (Physician)

On a side note, does anyone know of programs at other schools similar to the Bridge Program they offer at OSU-COM?
Only for Natives but the RISE program on the west coast (MD program). Oregon/UC Davis/Washington. I think it's free tuition like OSUCOM Bridge plus a stipend for living expenses, guaranteed admissions if you meet metrics which include attendance. You get a Pendleton blanket at the graduation ceremony.

The Pines and Pleasant View are the two most used apartment complexes by students right now. Although many, myself included, also rent townhouses or houses.
That being said there are other apartments complexes as well.
Agree with this assessment. Pines are newer, PV about 20 years old (new for Tahlequah). Good maintenance there. 2 BR around $450 including W/D and water, covered assigned parking, pet friendly. Pines is more expensive. PV does offer townhouse layout, I think for one bedroom.

Pines is close to casino and Starbucks in bottlenecked surburban subdivision. PV is close to highway and med school/hospital. I'd pick PV.

For those of you who are students with a family, where is the best place to live that is not too far from the campus?
We have considered rental homes in Owasso. Any thoughts?
Owasso is a tough commute during peak hours. Consider Skiatook or Collinsville. Decent schools, smaller town, about 20 minutes west of Owasso for grocery shopping. Skiatook has a Wal-Mart, Owasso has Aldi, Reasors, Sprouts I think.

Skiatook is due north of downtown Tulsa.

Jenks is also a great option!
Midtown if you can afford it: Florence Park, Fairgrounds, just north of Utica Square, Swan Lake. The commute from Jenks would create road rage for me, not to mention having to live around Jenksites. Close-in neighborhoods to the COM: Owen Park (would be my first choice), Brady Heights, anything along west Edison Street including Skyline Acres (MCM houses) and Gilcrease Hills. Apartments or townhouses: WestPort or across the river on the East side. If I were willing to commute 30 minutes, I'd look in Sand Springs. Decent schools, easy commute, cheaper prices.

Jenks or Broken Arrow.

I grew up in Tulsa, so I wouldn't do either, but it's what the realtors will push. As a med student you will be so busy you won't care where you live. If you don't have kids, there's no reason to move there. Soul sucking commutes, big box stores, and big box churches, both of them.

I mean, you do you but I did it for 4 years and know multiple students with families living in both places who love it. I would do it again instantly if I was starting over.

Your take is pretty poor for someone who grew up in Tulsa....

My sibling moved to Jenks when she first started medical school. It was not a bad commute to the campus at all. Literally 15 minutes max. Plus it's a lot cheaper than living in Tulsa...

I suspect you are right. Sitting on I-75 makes 15 minutes feel like hours, but it's nothing if you have ever been exposed to traffic in a real city.

Complete in July. Interviewed in early April, now on WL as of 04/20. Planning to send LOI as this is my top choice school.

Is this school done with interviews?
I don't know for sure, but I think it's a very safe bet to say they are. I doubt they want to interview into May, and as far as I know, they typically like to send interview invitations out at least a week ahead. So, I think those of us who haven't interviewed by now are super unlikely to interview this cycle. They may just be pulling from their waitlist to fill any vacancies or fill out their classes at this point.

I’ve received II from two different schools this past week. Naturally different schools have differing admissions timelines but definitely still a chance!

We called and Sarah said interviews have concluded with the slim chance of adding an extra interview day before the cycle is complete but that it is not likely. Hope that helps

I *think* I remember them saying they were planning on admitting 165 total this year between the two campuses. I think they're really close but not there yet. Plus, there will be some shuffling around as some accepted students will decide to go to a different school (whether they get off a waitlist elsewhere or just had multiple acceptances, etc) so they could be pulling off the waitlist for awhile. As somebody else mentioned, they had friends admitted just a few days before the first day of class!

Jokes on them, they can’t reject me if I never check my status update 😂 It was a fun ride with y’all, good luck wherever you end up. Y’all will do amazing things regardless of the outcome

Does anyone know if the class is full yet? I know people can still decide to go other places which would open up a spot but I'm wondering if they have anymore regular acceptances to give out.

This may sound really dumb, but how did you guys know what campus you were accepted to? Did you have to wait until the email packet came or was it on the letter?

Does anyone know anything about the defer admissions policy and terms? How to go about it?
I would email the dean of admissions or Lindsey if you can't find the info anywhere. They are usually pretty good at answering questions and doing it quickly.

When you get the call they will either tell you which campus or let you know you have the opportunity to choose between the two.

Accepted off the waitlist June 17th. Had no contact with the school since my interview. I declined my spot. But apparently there is still movement!
