Rejected, Accepted, Waitlisted: The R.A.W. Data Fall 2013

Does Yale send out decisions on Fridays or is it random?

I got mine on Thursday January 24th at 5:57am but I didn't receive it until around 11 am that day!

Got rejected from Johns Hopkins MSPH in GDEC so now I am going to choose between Tulane and GW.

Well, my twin sister and I both got into Columbia for MPH EPI. She got into Berkeley MPH infect/diseases a couple of weeks ago with a full ride fellowship and additional living stipend....hopefully I get that too from both Columbia and Berkeley, but leaning more toward Berkeley since I hear Columbia's financial aid packages aren't that great. I am verrry hesitant about taking a bunch of loans for a not so well paying and not guaranteed job.

Columbia will have to convince me with some generous financial aid...I don't know if the name is worth all that debt in this economy...

Congrats to you and your sister!!!

Totally agree on your perspective of Columbia.

I'm guilty of lurking for awhile...so finally posting.

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking - what degree and concentration?

Congrats Bongo. Could you tell us which major you applied to in Berkeley as well as the date your app was sent. Thanks

SM2-HPM. Waiting on scholarship decision now which they said don't go out until March. They are definitely still reviewing apps though.

That is awesome! I also applied SM2-HPM. So far you're the only person on these forums or gradcafe (I'm assuming that's you) that has been accepted - you must have great stats! I've been accepted to BU and GWU, but waiting on Harvard and Berkeley. The stress is really getting to me...

Has anyone gotten a Harvard decision yet?

They sent out few acceptances and rejections last friday. Got in to MPH (HSB), was told that decisions will continue to be sent out weekly till march ending. Also FinAid notified that HSPH, University-Wide and MPH program scholarships and grant notifications will be by last week of March. All the best to other applicants.

Now just waiting on HBS & funding!

Ah! I wonder if they are sending more out this week? We have been accepted to very similar programs at similar times (Michigan and Columbia)--but Berkeley is my top choice and I am very impatiently waiting to find out whether I need to attend some other admit days!!! Uggh, just hoping it comes this week!

Just got into Emory's HPM program today =) ECSTATIC!!
Now I'm just waiting on Columbia and BU.

Good luck to everyone waiting and congratulations to everyone who has heard great news =)

Thanks! I applied to MPH - HMP...Hopefully I hear back soon

Just got acceptance email from USF Global Health program!

Would anyone know if it is possible to ask for an extension to the date by which we are to respond? I've currently been accepted by UC Berkeley, and still waiting upon UCLA. Both require me to respond by April 15. Because I will not hear back from a job interview until after that date (around end of April), and this decision will affect where I decide to go to school, I would like to have an extension to that deadline.

Any advice? Thanks!

Greetings...

I thought this might be some helpful news for people who have a lower than desired GPA

GPA(SOPHAS): 2.82
Experience in Public Health: Peace Corps for nearly 3 years, public health nutritionist for WIC, yoga teacher

Applied: Boston, Emory, Tulane, U of Minn, Univ of IL Chicago, San Diego
Accepted: Emory GH (2/27)
Waiting: All of the rest
SOPHAS application mail date: 2/18

Didn't think I would get into Emory at all. Hopefully the rest will be good news!

UGPA: 3.63
Major/Minor: Anthropology
GRE (including date taken) or Other Test (if applicable): Q140 V148 AWA 4.5 (I know, right)
Experience/Research (please, be brief): Six month volunteer intern with HIV+ pregnant women in India, long term volunteer in NICU, certified HIV/AIDS counselor with experience counseling in prevention, health educator for refugees, current position as outreach specialist in maternal health, one publication

***Please include the following whenever possible: specific concentration/track, dates, type of correspondence (phone, email, letter, etc.), scholarships/grants. Judging by last year's thread, yes we are this obsessive and neurotic.***

Applied: Tulane, U Minnesota, Boston U, UNC, University of South Florida (All for Maternal/Child Health)
Accepted: University of South Florida
Rejected: Boston U, U Minnesota
Waitlisted:

Didn't think I'd get in anywhere given my GRE scores, but hey, I took a shot and got one acceptance so far :) --- come out of the woodworks, low GRE scorers!

UGPA: 3.72
Major(s): Biochemistry (BS), Molecular and Cellular Biology (BS), Anthropology (BA)
Minor(s): Japanese Language, Math
GRE: N/A
MCAT: 32
Experience/Research (please, be brief): STEP at CDC (Division of Viral Hep), various biology/biochemical lab experiences, experience in med anthropology

Applied: UA Zuckerman (Epi MPH), USF (GH:GCD MPH), Emory (EH/EPI Joint MSPH)
Accepted: Emory
Waiting: UA, USF

I had fairly strong LORs I think. One from my supervisor during my time at the CDC, another from my anthro honors thesis advisor, and a third from my biochem lab prof/faculty advisor for the club I am president of.

Got my acceptance to the Berkeley epidemiology/biostatistics MPH and a rejection from the UNC epidemiology Ph.D, which wasn't really surprising. Happy about Berekeley, though :)

Thank you so much for posting this and your honesty. I have a similar profile to yours (your GPA is a bit higher than mine)-- where I got 143 Q 145 V 4.5 AW. I want people to know that they should do their best on the GRE and the other parts of their application, but the GRE IS NOT the deciding factor. I was accepted to UMich and Boston U with those scores.

Yes from Columbia for CDE!!
Yayyyy!!

Accepted: Columbia, Emory, Mich, GWU, BU, U of Pitts, UMN, Drexel
Rejected: Yale:mad:
Waiting: Harvard, Hopkins and UNC

Does anyone who went to UM's HMP visit day remember when they heard back about acceptances/rejections after it?? It's exactly one week to today and I'm so nervous and impatient right now!!

Congrats on all your awesome acceptances!

How long did it take people to hear back from Tulane GCHBS and Emory BSHE? It has been almost five weeks for Tulane and over three-weeks for Emory? I know it's a busy time, but I want this process to end soon so I can make a decision soon. :scared:

How long did it take folks to hear back from the Hopkins full-time MPH program?

They claim 8-10 weeks, and I'm going bonkers waiting.

Just as an FYI to those waiting, Columbia has started sending rejection notices...I can't say I'm surprised and I still have some great schools that I've been accepted to so I know it wasn't the right place for me and my goals :)

Good luck to all who are still waiting to hear...

GWU, BU, and U of M HBHE are taking FOREVER though!

Sending happy thoughts to all!!

Yep, also just got my rejection from Columbia MPH. I'm still waiting on Harvard, but it's starting to look like I'll be choosing between MN and UNC (can't complain about that!).

Best of luck to those still waiting!

so sad.. got my 2nd rejection today from Columbia.. first rejection was last week from UCLA..

accepted to BU even though that;s not really my toplist
hoping for HSPH, JHSPH, berkeley, and yale..

where the hell is that rosary...

I submitted Dec 1 and heard back on Feb 20 - almost 11 weeks!

I'll add to the other Columbia (HPM) rejections! It was a shock/sad but
I still have a couple to hear from and am accepted at Tulane :)
Hopefully it all works out in the end!

I'm in at UC Berkeley for an MPH in Infectious Diseases & Vaccinology. :soexcited: Notified via email an hour ago.

:highfive:

Just a little info for people waiting for Berkeley. I emailed them a while ago about admission decisions and have copied the responses below!

"I hope this email finds you well. Admission decisions will be sent via-email in March 2013"

"It will likely be the beginning of March since we host our Spring Visit Day for those newly admitted student on the 18th."

Hope this helps calm some nerves!

Yes thanks for this! It's a bit frustrating because there are admit days 2 weeks from tomorrow... across the country... which I would want to go to if I don't get into Berkeley! But flights are dang expensive and just getting more so!!!!

Didn't think I had neither the GPA nor the GRE score to be competitive. But it just goes to show that experience and passion go a long way.

For anyone who applied to UCLA, but haven't gotten an email about their decisions, you can go to this page and type in your email and password (from the gdnet app). They may have posted your decision already but haven't emailed you yet. I just got mine, but I'm too nervous to look at it since UCLA is my top choice.

I did that too but it still said no decision has been made yet.

Congrats on becoming a Bruin!! I wanted to thank you for posting the grad admissions website. I got a letter from the department I applied to a few weeks ago saying "congrats! we've recommended you for admission, but you'll need to wait for the official word." So I've been waiting for my looming rejection email. I just logged on and I'm officially in! And the letter was dated 3 days earlier than the departmental letter...

Thanks Hefty, congrats to you as well! I'm glad all that suspense and anxiety has turned into good news. I'm glad I could help a little! I read on grad cafe results that people were getting emails with this link so I checked it out. Is ucla one of your top choices as well?
