Washington State Univeristy c/o 2025 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What are the 1st-year scholarship prospects like?
From a USU perspective, first year scholarships are hard to come by. The scholarship application is heavily tailored towards Washington residents and you end up only qualifying for financial need scholarships (mostly). Out of the first years at USU, I only know of one that got a scholarship offer and they had to sign a contract to pay it back at the end of school.

There is a specific USU scholarship application for your second year, but it's still pretty limited in comparison.

Just for completeness sake there are scholarships offered specifically for Utah only from the internal wsu application as well. The contracts for pay back are also pretty variable as some of them you can pay back monetarily vs good time like volunteering at a shelter so it just depends on the scholarship

Facebook just reminded me that Dr. Talcott called me exactly 2 years ago.

BTW, once you've accepted your seat, you should be able to join your class' Facebook page.
Do you know who creates the groups? I (I accepted my seat Tuesday)
I searched FB and found the 2023 and 2024 group but wasn’t able to locate the one for Class of 2025

Usually one of the ambassadors makes it. With acceptances just now starting to really role out they may not have set one up yet. They will send you an invite or link via email to get to the page.

The title is WSU CVM Class of 2025. If you are still having difficulties, PM me and I'll send you the link.

That's reassuring, thank you! Do you mind me asking how much experience you added between your 2nd and 3rd applications? I'm worried that with Covid there's only so much more experience I'll be able to gain.
I worked at a local vet clinic during that time, I was waitlisted for 2 consecutive years so things were very uncertain for me but I had a stable job at the time where I could learn more about veterinary medicine and it was very rewarding. It can be difficult during covid but one other thing my advisor shared with me was virtual volunteering! This was something I thought was really cool because there are lots of sites looking for people to help them with research by playing certain games or just contributing to their data. Look that up, might be helpful for you application as well!

Does anyone know whether WSU has a device requirement? I'm about to purchase a new laptop and I just want to make sure WSU doesn't care what devices we have for classes.

I was working a full-time job and continued that. I think the only other experience I added was some volunteer equine work over the summer. I must say the biggest difference was between my 1st and 2nd application vs 2nd and 3rd, and the main differing factor for the 3rd application for me was working on my interview skills

I just got my OOS acceptance call! I already committed to Davis but this was my second choice school so I’m so honored to have been accepted nonetheless!! And someone who ends up on the waitlist can have my spot. 🙂 Hopefully the rest of you get calls soon!
Oh gosh so they’re calling 😬😬 congrats on both this one and Davis!!

Exactly in the same position as you! Guys I'm most likely declining my OOS seat, congrats to the admitted students and good luck to the waitlisted! I'm working with an ER doc who graduated from WSU and she's absolutely the best!!

I second this - I work with two doctors from WSU and one is actually adjunct faculty at the school. Both are amazing and the program is incredible! It would be a really hard decision if Davis wasn't so close to me. I hope you all get acceptances today/this week!

Omg I will admit I was kinda sad when I heard they didn’t have a target near Pullman 😮that’s great news haha
I was very excited to learn about Target coming to Moscow. They're remodeling a building as we speak. I love Pullman as far as small towns go but I know I'm in the minority. IMO you can live anywhere for 4 years, but the debt leaves a much bigger impact and isn't worth location- but that's me. PM box is open for all of you especially OOS to Pullman campus I went through the whole changing residency.
Does anyone have a clue what the calling schedule is like? Is there hope if we don’t hear tonight?
I don't know the calling schedule, but if it's like IS there's still hope! Goodluck to everyone especially those of you anxiously waiting!

To those accepted OOS - are any of you from WICHE states?
I am technically. I’m from Nevada which was a WICHE state until this year, but they have decided to withdraw from the program and no longer fund students. However, WSU may be still treating us as students from WICHE states without funding.

Are all of the OOS acceptances, so far, been from WICHE states? Are there still more OOS acceptances to be released?

Just got my letter... Nonresident WAITLISTED! Anyone know how many waitlist spots they give out? How can we find out what seat we are?

Pretty much anyone not accepted is waitlisted that interviewed unless your really screwed up your interview.
They also essentially reconvene for each spot that becomes available. Theres a list but to oversimplify the process they replace like people with like people for class composition whether that's interest or views I'm not totally sure how it works. It's also complicated by the pullman vs logan campus preferences.

Definitely dont waist your time trying to find out a waitlist number unfortunately.

As mixedanimals77 said, it's probably most people who interviewed, so looking at the OOS stats from last year (1115 applied,173 interviewed, 41 offers,15 admitted), I'd guess somewhere from 150-200 depending on how they wanted to approach a COVID admissions year. Regardless, I doubt the WSU waitlist moves as much as, say, the UW Madison waitlist that I am on (90-150 spot movement) given they have 15 OOS seats and the coveted in-state tuition after 1st year.
