Secondary application completed and sent.

Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen! Here is to hoping that some of us will be accepted into Western's incoming class!

I was hoping to get a Western secondary invite but nothing so far. 🙁
Anyone has any insight into what they screen for?

When I went to visit they said they screen for above a 2.5gpa and they claimed to have no minimum MCAT required.

If your app was in and you indicated you were taking one in the future then they should. I called to make sure because on their site my old mcat was listed even though my new one was higher. She told me that it could take a while before they receive the revised app.
After your sent your MCAT scores to AACOMAS, do they automatically send them to your schools or did you have to do something extra?

I sent my MCAT scores to AACOMAS on Tuesday and they received them Wednesday but none of my schools are showing that they have my scores yet.

It will probably update at the next scheduled upload... Next Wednesday morning. Then the individual schools have to notice that they were added (may not be automatic). I would start calling schools if they are not updated by mid-day Thursday next week.

Remember. This is a looooong sloooooow process and there are a lot of players involved. It will take time to get it all down, then when it is all figured out, it will be time for the schools to do it all again next year! Yay! Just hope that we all won't have to go through it all again as an applicant.

Western has received all of my requirements but I have not received a letter saying i'm complete. Should I call them Monday.

They've received or you've sent? If they have it marked as all received, I don't think you have to worry about it. They might send you the email before you wake up on Monday.

It took about a week like someone else mentioned. I didn't have to do anything other then release my score to AACOMAS. If you're worried, you can call schools to let them know you have a new mcat that should be sent to them.

i received a secondary invite by the Northwest campus. I haven't received one from the Pomona campus. Is it OK if I just select Western Pomona on the secondary? My only concern is that what if I end up wasting $ on sending a secondary to Pomona since I didn't recieve an invite from them.

Did they cut down on the number of essays. I only see the following 2 prompts on my secondary:
While shadowing a physician, what did the experience
do to solidify your desire/ambition to become an
osteopathic physician?

Describe your participation in community service
activities and state why this experience was
important to you

Cool thanks for the answer guys. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some additional step I was missing. Maybe I'll send out update emails saying that my LORs are ready and my scores are in.

Those were the only two I had too. Someone gave me a useful bit of advice to at least be prepared to answer the old questions in an interview though. Makes sense 🙂

Just call them up and explain it to them. I have found that the admissions people are really nice and will help you in any way that they can.

Since it is considered a single class, it did not matter which campus sent you the secondary. Select the one that you want and submit it. Only one campus will consider your application at a time. and the admissions people work hand-in-hand with each other.

Good luck to you!

Pomona screens. They might have screened you out.

I would just email them and ask. My impression is that they treat it as one class in two locations, so you would probably be fine marking pomona, but to get an accurate answer I would ask them directly.

Hey Everyone

One of the science professors that will be submitting an LOR for me just emailed me and needs to know my 10 character document ID to upload a letter to Interfolio - I'm assuming that this is an Interfolio ID?

Also, since I'm going to need to make an Interfolio account, when it makes me choose a plan, there is the $19 for "LOR's and credentials", but then there is the free option for "submit LORS" - are you guys doing the free one or do we need to pay the $19? I know that when you send them you pay money but I'm just not sure how this all works. Anyone who may know, could you please fill me in on how this works? Thank you!!!

the free one is ONLY for the LOR writers. If your LOR writer decides to electronically submit the letter to interfolio, they can make a free interfolio account to do this. You need to sign up for $19 account.
Edit: You should read over the info on the interfolio website that explains everything- how to make account, request letters, send letters, etc

I just called and was told that Pomona campus hasn't processed the primaries they received last week. I guess Northwest campus is just faster in processing . My primary was released last week so will continue to wait.

Also for anyone else who might be in the same dilemma as I was, do NOT fill out the Pomona secondary if you just revived Northwest invite ( vica versa). Also, if you receive invites from both campuses, don't waste your $ in sending secondaries to both as they only process your application to a single campus, which ever one you marked as your first choice. The nice admissions lady on the phone just saved me $65 as I was planning on submitting both secondaries to increase my chances.

Northwest gets less applicants iirc.

Would love to attend Western U in Pomona, but I'm not sure wether my numbers are competitive enough. Any thoughts?

MCAT 26P

cGPA 3.41
sGPA 3.56
non-sGPA 3.36

I am a non-traditional student, prior military service (5 years active duty - Army). I am married and have three children, and my wife is a registered nurse. I only decided to apply to medical school a year and a half ago and have taken all the bio and chem courses since then, that's why my science GPA is higher than the non-science since I have only A's and B's in those courses during the last year and a half. That is also the reason my MCAT is not as high as I'd like.

I don't know man,,, your gpa is fine, but your mcat isn't very comp for western u. Western is from what i hear very comp school. If I were you, I'd retake mcat and have some hospital experience.

Don't sweat it. You are definitely competitive! Partially due to wishful thinking since I am a non trad (26 y/o) Western applicant and my stats are s3.43/c3.23 25Q. But more importantly, I have a close friend who just started MS1 at Western Pomona, and I know that he is a non trad by far, who crammed course work in like you and got a 25 MCAT. So, just because Western's avg MCAT is 28, that just means an average of matriculants with 23-33 scores. We can do it!

The dean of the school LOVES military. 👍

i have a question and it might be dumb. but....i live in NJ and just was wondering about the interview. would i have to go to CA for it? or do they have a representative on the east coast i could go to like some schools have?.....going to cali for the interview is going to be very very expensive 🙁

How do you think any of us that live on the west coast feel about having to travel to the east coast for interviews?

If I interview at all the schools that I applied to, I will be flying to the eastern states at least 8 times, and the southwest 3 times. I have budgeted more than $1000 for secondaries and about $7,000 for interviews. Factoring in travel at about $5-600 and hotel/meals at about $100-150. That gives me about 10 interviews out of 20 primary applications.

The only bonus is that COMP-NW and OHSU are within driving distances.

I don't have an answer to your question about a representative on the east coast, but if you can't afford the travel, don't complete the secondary.

Sorry that this post sounds a little harsh, but your question sounded like you were whining. Nobody said that this would be cheap.

I live in CA and am having to fly out to the east coast/midwest for all mine. Yes, it is expensive.

not whining at all. im well aware of the financial aspect hence why i asked the question. you did not need to give me your math. I was simply wondering for this specific school if they had reps like i know some other schools have. and clearly i realize that people on the west coast may have to travel to the east for interviews, im not a *******. I just wanted to know about this school...but thanks.

Are there any schools that send reps out to interview people like that?? The thought had never ever even crossed my mind before. I always assumed I'd have to travel.

Finally marked complete as of 8/3, it took them 10+ days to get my LOR's uploaded, but glad its finally done!

Thank you for your input! Knowing some info about others already attending makes the process a little less intimidating.

I think you're absolutely right to think of the entire range of scores that makes an average of 28. Many see the average and think only people within a couple points get in. But I'm not terribly worried about my MCAT. It's not a true indicator of my potential, just like many other non-trads, and even trads that don't test well. In fact, I believe that score is great having only studied bio and chem for just over one year, with a wife going to nursing school full time and three children. The way I see it, there's people with lower MCAT scores then both of us getting in, so we can definitely do it!!

I want an interview invite here already! Maybe I won't get one here, but it would be nice since I'm from California.
