I really don't know much about either of these schools, but just from reading what you wrote it sounds like you are more excited about CSU and it is a better fit. You don't want to look back and regret it. Think back to before you even got waitlisted. Which school were you really hoping to get into? Congrats on getting your pick of schools! Let us know which one you decide on.

I guess its safe to assume that Tufts is full and will only open up if people drop out over the summer. Thats a bummer!!! Tufts was my first choice. But I bombed the interview- seriously shelled it. I really don't want to leave Mass- I really liked the Grafton campus and appreciated the research and public policy opportunities.
I was accepted to Western University (and very thankful for it!!!).

So for other people accepted to their second choice. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are "Holy crap! I got accepted to my 2nd choice!" I'm not sure what else you're expecting. You should be planning your move to Pomona and getting all your information in order for that. If you happen to get accepted to Tufts in the process, then awesome,! But don't make that your focus.

I didn't even get an interview at my first choice, so as much as I think 'well, that's a bummer...', I am still SO very stoked that I got in at all!! And I knew I couldn't have been very far down on the list, considering the date that I was called (April 15th, the day acceptances were due in).
I was doing some research in order to let my non-animal-y family know exactly HOW BIG OF A DEAL this is. (I got into Auburn). Last year, something like 681 people applied. They only accepted 95 students, and only 13 of those were out of state, non-contract students. So I had less than a 2% chance of getting in...
THINK ABOUT IT. IT'S A BIG DEAL. BE EXCIIIIITED THAT YOU GOT IN AT ALL!!!

Congrats! When I got waitlisted and told "wait until school starts, you may hear from us" I was highly skeptical, but I guess it does happen. As a fellow "Dick Vet" I strongly urge you not to change your mind 😉

Wow, Knockout4, that is wonderful and amazing!!! But as a soon to be Glasgow Vet Student, not so far away, I too urge not to change your mind. 😉 Nah, you have to do what is best for you!! But to be so far down the road to Edinburgh....just getting overseas is a lot of work!!
 
Thanks you guys! I am so thrilled either way. It is funny though, I JUST bought my plane ticket for Scotland and sent in my visa app, and threw away all my K-State stuff, haha. I figured three weeks away from classes starting for K-State I probably wasn't going to hear anything. And yeah, very tough decision. They told me I have until tomorrow first thing in the morning to decide, ahhh. I LOVE the idea of going to Scotland, I am just trying to decide if it is worth the extra money....

Tufts has a lab animal medicine program??? (I am a lab animal vet and did not know this).

So I looked it up and saw it is an MS/DVM combined. Found it interesting that it is not ACLAM approved and yet they made the claim that you can shorten your residency....hmmm maybe one of the 3 to 2 years if you publish, but that is odd advertising.....

Haha, you guys it was a SUPER hard decision, I loved both of the schools. I decided on Edinburgh though! It will be a little more expensive (not THAT much though really), but man I just loved the program. Honestly I like the idea of the 5 year program, as I have been out of school for a few years and I would feel more comfortable knowing I do not have to move as quickly. Also, I am not the type of person to break a commitment; granted the schools expect some of that and if it was the right move for me I would have anyway.

Also school for K-State starts in like 3 weeks! Not sure I could have gotten all my stuff switched over, and been ready in time. I am happy knowing someone else who is extremely deserving will get that spot at K-State though.

Anyway, I am SOO looking forward to the next few years and thank you guys for all the kind words and for being excited with me 🙂 So it DOES happen, getting called off the waitlist even so late in the summer!

WIN. Happy you decided to stick with Edinburgh, it will be the adventure of a lifetime. And you are right, when all is said and done, what's a few more thousand dollars in loans. See yah over there in a month or so. Myself, I leave Friday. Yikes!

Hey guys,
I just got called off the Kansas state waitlist...But I've already moved to Prince Edward Island to attend AVC, so I told Dr. Elmore I wouldn't be coming to Kansas. Good luck to who ever is next in line to take my spot!
 
Maybe some Iowa OOS person will get a call from Kansas and decide to go that route... so the Iowa waitlist will move one.more.spot. Just one. One tiny spot.

If I don't get called to ISU I will have to sit in a dark quiet room with a bottle of wine for a while. Spending 70% of the summer being the next one on the list and not getting called is a little mentally exhausting.


I'm just throwing it out there... I am a great cook and if an OOS Iowa person decides not to attend I will make you a cake every week for the rest of your life. 😛
 
I have heard a few scenarios of people completely freaking out during orientation and dropping out and they still call people off the wait list. Don't lose hope yet!!!
