UF c/o 2014... It Begins!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good luck to everyone who has interviews today! I hope to meet you guys next year 🙂

does anyone know when UF will be contacted applicants since the new Pcat scores are in???

Oh okay... I was so confused as to why only Gainesville and Orlando students/applicants have been posting. It seems like no one from St Pete or Jacksonville uses SDN. LOL

I received an invite to interview at St. Pete location on 3/22/2010. Gainesville was my first choice but, I'm assuming because I submitted my PharmCAS application 1 week prior to the deadline and the supplemental application the day it was due (yikes!), I was assigned to my 2nd location at St. Pete.

I am also a UF graduate with my BS in Nutritional Sciences, so I am somewhat bummed that I didn't get my first choice in Gainesville. But honestly... I would be content going to any UF campus, regardless of location. I must admit, I am pretty nervous about the interview and have no idea what to expect.

When did you get your invite to UF?

When did you get your invite to UF?

I received an email on Feb. 19th informing me of the interview invitation.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else received an interview invitation for St. Pete on March 22nd?

Hey you all! Just gettin' ready for some much needed spring break. Congrats to those who got in. To those who still wait, don't despair... UF application cycle run through June!

You worked hard to get in here and BELIEVE me, you WILL work that much harder to keep up. The program is RIGOROUS and quite CHALLENGING! But the education is EXCEPTIONAL. Sometimes, I think about the other schools I got accepted to, but UF is the REAL DEAL (and affordable)!

Ultimately, you'll just have to experience it to know. Good luck and I hope to see you on campus! One more thing... it doesn't matter which campus you are in. Watching lectures can actually make you more discipline.

Anyone else have an interview 3/19 at the Orlando campus? I am really nervous about it.

What should I expect at the interview?

Hope to join the ranks of the accepted soon!
Hey, I'll be at Orlando on 3/19. I'm not too nervous about the interview since at this point, the school pretty much wants you and it's also closed file 🙂.

I wonder if there's going to be a lot of people being interviewed on the same date and if they use the same interviewers as Gainesville (I highly doubt it).

guys, does anybody get any confirmation letter of "file completion" before your interview invitation?

also does anybody get any invitation after jan 2010 pcat scores were sent to UF?

UF does not send any notification stating that your application is complete.

One of my friends who is a P1 @ the Jacksonville campus said that one of the professors on UF's admission board said that this year the GPA's/PCAT scores aren't as high and that this would be a good year for us to apply.

Should I be worried if I haven't gotten an interview yet?
Overall GPA: 3.77
Science GPA: 3.60 (I took extra sciences other than the pre-reqs for UF)
Math GPA: 4.00
PCAT: 73

Just received my conditional acceptance letter from Penny 👍

For those of you who attend or have been accepted to UF- is it still requirement to have an i-phone? My interview is a month away, but my phone just crapped out on me! I need to buy a new phone but don’t want to sign a 2 year extension with t-mobile if I need at&t. I would like to get a smart phone though either way... just trying to decide if I should stay with t-mobile or go to at&t. Please let me know what they have told you about this entering class. ( I know last year they required for the 2009- 2013 class)

Hey everyone!
I got my acceptance letter a few days ago. Im looking forward to meeting all of you in the fall.

To answer the question above..you need to have either an iPhone or iTouch..:soexcited:

Has anyone received interview invites for the new wave of interviews for UF? I still haven't heard from them and I'm kinda worried :[

I wonder how many people will be there in general. There are already a number of students accepted in Orlando. I think getting the invite 2/2/10 has lead to nervousness, so much time to think about it.

Why do we need an iPhone or iTouch? Is it all campus' or just Gainsville?

I haven't heard from them either.. I actually went and talked to one of the administrators at the college (in person) and was told my low score in Reading comprehension was below their PCAT subsection cutoff (a 40 I was told was the lowest they will accept for a subsection). So I don't know whether to expect an interview now 🙁

Is there anyone here who has been accepted that has below a 40 on a PCAT subsection?

I have an interview invite, and I also have below a 40 in RC (37). But all my other scores were high. I went to talk to the administration in Jax, and they told me that they had no minimums on the PCAT, that they only looked at the total. I am not sure why they are giving different info??
Is the rest of your application competitive? If so, then I wouldn’t worry that RC would hold you back. Good luck!

Why do we need an iPhone or iTouch? Is it all campus' or just Gainsville?

Last year all the campus' had to get one, but a girl from my school who has been accepted told me that they might be changing the rule this year to : had to have a smart phone (didnt matter if it was iphone/ itouch, or not).
I wish they had it posted, so I knew what kind to buy right now...

Gatorsrx... have you heard this as fact for this current entering class?

They will not finalize the computer / IPhone/ITouch requirements until May 30th...the link you want to look at is below:

Has anyone received an interview for the Gainesville campus for April? 😕

I was told by a P4 last summer that ALL students in ALL campuses were required to either have an iPhone or iTouch for the pharmacy apps available to download.

Unfortunately, my application was fully completed in SEPTEMBER and I still have heard nothing back from them, not even a rejection. I know it will be a rejection, but I would still like to know!

I am from California! And had Orlando as my priority! Interview date left is for April 9th! Still hoping for an interview from there? NOT! 5% acceptance from out-of-state LAME! lol!

For those that are still waiting for an interview, I e-mailed Penny to see why some of haven't received a decision and this is what she said:

"Yes you are competitive, however, we are still currently reviewing applicants with 3.2-4.0 science gpa and 75-99 PCAT score. Yes there are still spots available at all four campuses. You will receive an email from us once your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made."

Don't lose hope! 🙂

Thanks for sharing Penny's e-mail to you. Penny mentioned that you are competitive. Do you mind if I ask what your Science GPA and your PCAT composite score are? I ask so that I can put it in context with her reply to you.

Thanks!!!🙂

Actually, I do mind. That is a really personal question😡

Just kidding. First of all, my username is Howard Yehti...but my name is neither Howard nor Yehti...so I am annonymous.

Science GPA 3.61 (I believe that this one by far holds the most weight for UF)
Nonscience GPA 3.49
Math GPA 3.46
Total GPA 3.53
PCAT 94 (I never expected to do that well.)

I only took the PCAT in Jan 2010 and PharmCAS didn't send the score to UF until 3/3/2010.

Your Science GPA is certainly high enough. Your PCAT score is probably fine. Two other questions are (1) do you have any pharmacy experience? I did some volunteering at a pharmacy to get some experience since I never worked in one. (2) do you have some volunteer work for the community? Such as Habitat for Humanity or whatnot? If your answer to both questions is yes, then I am confident that you will get in...but you may not hear until May or June😳

Thanks for emailing Penny Ksacayanan and helping settle some of our nerves... have you not heard either?!

No I haven't heard anything either! I'm still waiting! I'm thinking that they interview everyone who has a 3.2-4.00 GPA ANDDD a PCAT score between 75-99 first and then the later interviews (or well, the June interview) is when they will interview those under those scores. I don't know though.. that's what I'm just thinking! haha. What are your stats by the way? 🙂

Haha wow that's a pretty good PCAT! I'm sure you'll get an interview too! In regards to pharmacy experience, i volunteered in a hospital pharmacy but let's just say that rather than letting me follow around and ask them questions, I was just left with some "secretary" work so I decided to volunteer at another hospital. The only problem was that they didn't have volunteering positions so they just put in Radiology but I ended up with a lot of patient interaction. In regards to the community, we planned some cultural stuff to raise money for typhoon/earthquake damages in other countries also relay for life. But yeah, you're probably right though, I won't hear until May or June!

Hey guys I am still waiting for UF. English is my second language so according to UF, it is required to take TOEFL. I did not take my TOEFL yet. One guy at UF told me that he took his TOEFL after his interview. Does anybody know whether UF call me without the TOEFL score? my stats are on the top of this page.
Also If somebody has any suggestions to prepare for TOEFL will be greatly appreaciated.

@PharmdBatman: I emailed and asked them about TOEFL before. They told me that March 1 is the deadline to send TOEFL score to Pharmcas.

Actually, with your stats and volunteer work, I would guess you will hear by end of April at the latest, and I wouldn't be surprised if you hear by end of March...and I should know:idea::xf:

Anyway, I forgot to mention...is one of your recommendations from a pharmacist? I think that is a big help too. I am assuming that if you volunteered in a pharmacy, that you got a pharmacist to write you a recommendation. But, it sounds like your volunteer experience wasn't so helpful.

Hey PharmdBatman and alkene...my advice is take TOEFL as soon as possible...actually, make sure you have enough time to adequately prepare for it first... pull out all the stops. Review books, check blogs, ask your friends etc. Batman, other than Reading, your PCAT scores are sweet...I would think that if you do well on the TOEFL, then that will show UF that you know how to read:laugh::laugh:.

But, to be prudent, you should call/e-mail UF Pharm program (phone number on their webiste) and ask about the TOEFL policy. Personally, I would think that whenever they get your TOEFL scores, they will consider your application...so try to get it done before end of May at the latest...but I only pretend to know what I am talking about😀 you may want to ask UF Pharmacy dept who actually knows:luck: OK, maybe I am taking this whole emoticon thing too far😕😕 anyway, I think I will go outside, so I better put on my shades😎

How important is it to have pharmacy experience? Is healthcare experience okay instead? I've been working with a pediatrician for two years, but I have my reasons as to why it led me to pharmacy explained in my personal statement. I'm just getting worried..🙁

overall: 3.69

and i submitted my supplemental january 31st, bc i was so busy studying for the jan pcat

I know they really prefer if 1 of your 2 recommendations is from a Pharmacist...it can be a friend or relative...but they prefer it be from a Pharmacist.

I think the main reason that they want you to have SOME form of Pharmacy experience is becuase some Pharmacy students start doing the "in-Pharmacy" part of the program (which is from the second half of your third year to the second half of your fourth year) and they hate working in a Pharmacy...these same people graduate, start working in pharmacies and realize that they still hate it.

This is obviously not an ideal outcome. UF just wants to be sure that you know what you are getting into. I have a friend from when I lived in Denver, Colorado. She HATED it as a student and hoped it would get better after she graduated...but she continued to HATE it!!! If she had it to do over again, she would have done something else.

Can you get into UF without any Pharmacy experience? Absolutely. How much does it hurt you not to have it...I don't know.

Thanks for your input! Well, the physician that I've been working with, I've also been researching with (not pharmacy related but patient-doctor related stuff) decided to write a letter for it. I totally understand what you mean by hating what you do with the "in-pharmacy" stuff based on the lack of experience. I want to do clinical pharmacy and I hope that the clinic experience outweighs the fact that I haven't done something such as shadow a pharmacist or work as a pharm-tech I guess we'll have to see 🙂

Looks good to me. Do you have any community volunteer work?

Regardless, even without pharmacy experience or community volunteer work, I think you will get into UF...unfortunately, like myself, we both need to try to calm down and be patient...the waiting is sooooo painful!:scared:

I just wish we could hit the Fast Forward button to mid June and know for sure.

haha thanks, yeah I have experience with organizations (and volunteering within those). One of the P1 students here at the gainesville campus said that the applications weren't so competitive according to a professor that she has. However, most of the things I've read on this forum have competitive applicants so I was starting to get worried. We have to just wait it out...🙁 I'll let you know if I hear anything!

How much is UF's deposit and how long do they give to pay it.

I believe the deadline for all paperwork including TOEFL is July 1rst. Maybe you can have the TOEFL waived? English is my second language as well but I've been here forever&got great scores on the verbal sections of the pcat so I emailed the dean and got it waived.

Actually you start your first practicum in your second year, my husband has UF pharmacy students at his hospital. They also said at the open house that you start your first community experiences your first year. It is a Florida requirement that we complete a certain number of hours in a pharmacy as part of our education. When my husband was in school it was 500 hours in retail and 500 hours in hospital. Experience prior to school unfortunately does not count. Luckily for UF students they build it into the curriculum, he went to FAMU and he was required to acquire those hours on their own time.

I think they want their applicants to have experience not only because they want people to like their chosen career, I think most importantly a person familiar with the field makes a great candidate because they are familiar with some of the ideas and concepts. But it is by no means required, I think healthcare experience in any form is helpful because it is not like most other careers. I do have friends accepted this cycle with NO pharmacy or healthcare experience at all.
