would love to spend some time here despite my lack of ties to this state.
For a state school, looks like a decent OOS %. Does anyone know if they are from all over, or mostly mid-atlantic and/or people with ties to the area?
I'm from the west coast, no ties whatsoever to Maryland. I'll be an m1 here this fall. My roommates who also go to school here are from all over the country. Go ahead and apply, if you get an interview as an oos, there's a good chance of getting in.
My sister is an undergrad at Maryland, does that count as a link to the state? I have visited the campus several times and like it there. My sister loves the area as well. As far as secondaries go, do they screen before they send out secondaries?
anyone else find the letters section odd if you're doing individual letters?
and the 2011 thing is fixed for mcat
submitted. wasnt a huge fan of this secondary
You fly through these.
Mine take a while because I have RT editing them. I get my ideas down, she makes it sound good. Haha.
I have nothing to do at work or when i get home so papa writes. plus writing 15 other secondaries helps to get some ideas flowing or have answers pre written. i've used my optional TMDSAS essays at points
Yeah, 90% of my essays come from the secondary essays written for A&M's secondary or the optional TMDSAS essay (I only wrote one).
Essays are the same as last year...
Briefly describe your most important exposure to clinical medicine. (1500 character max.)
Briefly describe your most satisfying experience related to community service. (1500 character max.)
What does it mean to enter into a profession? (1500 character max.)
For the first one, isn't it just a reiteration of one of the "most meaningful experiences" on AMCAS? I feel like I should just copy/paste it...Wouldn't make sense to expound on something else and claim that another activity was my most important experience just for the sake of having something different
What is everyone else doing?

Quick question - does independent research or study include working as an undergraduate with a PhD in his lab? He basically has a whole investigation going and calls all the shots. My role in this is lab procedures and discussion of procedures and results with the professor. That's not independent research, right?
thanks
Just got a complete email. It looks like us MD/MSers get a separate review committee.
did everyone use internet explorer or were others ok using firefox/safari/chrome?
how long did you guys write for your secondary essays?
It gives character limits, but it says briefly... so should I try to fill up all the spaces?? how long did you write?
What do they mean by this question:
* "What does it mean to enter into a profession? (1500 character max.)"
Does this relate to medicine or to any profession? This is the vaguest question ever...
Please help. Thanks.

As a nontrad student, this is a god awful secondary...
I had ~5 essays to write on the "MD Application" page alone. Then I was thrilled to find three more essays under the..."Essays" tab.Work experience, parent information, research information... ALL THIS CRAP IS ALREADY ON MY AMCAS!
does anyone know if they start interviewing OOS at the same time as IS? Some state schools dont' even interview OOS ppl until Jan, so I'd like a head's up.
do we even know when the first interviews come out at all?

The application process to Maryland left a lot to be desired. As an out-of-state applicant, the interview day felt almost disciminatory. After showing up on time for my interview, I was left waiting for half an hour for an oncologist. He finally called me in, sat me down, and ranted about why facebook sucks. Then he pulled out my AMCAS and asked me about specific grades I had gotten. Never once asked why I like medicine or even that school. I don't know if it was representative or not, and I've heard a lot of good things about the school itself, but be wary of the application process!
