2007 MCV Central (Part II)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
do you know how many students have actually been accepted into that program?

He didn't give me an exact number, but he said that I should get my completed application to him before June 4th, otherwise chances are very slim.

It would also make sense to apply to physiology certificate program simultaneously as a back up. they do not have a set number of students they accept, so that ones pretty flexible

I don't see any mention of acceptances in this forum lately.
Anyone heard anything?

nada...hopefuly the 29th brings big things.

hey guys, for anyone here considering the post-bac program, i just wanted to make sure u guys knew this program is more for people who haven't proven themselves with their GPA in the undergraduate....if you have a poor mcat score or ECs for example, this isn't going to help you (i'm in the same position as many of u, but dr. w-c told me the post-bac wouldn't be of any help to me bc it was my lower than avg mcat that kept me out this year)....anyways jus thought i'd share that

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that if she didn't mention anything about coming off the waitlist in an email correspondence, may 29th might not be such an exciting day.

at least that's what i'm telling myself. 🙁

yes but she didnt tell anyone outright they would come off soon. The response of "in a few weeks" is clever, because the waitlists lifetime of movement is generally a few weeks, after that a) it stops moving b) school starts.

The most positive response i read on this thread was "4 weeks." So keep your head up high, shes not going to tell anyone, and who knows, you might an acceptance sitting in your email on the 29th 🙂🙂

yah i actually had a meeting with dr. woleben last week and he said the exact same thing about the post-bac program. i am not worried about my undergrad gpa, the only reason why i even applied to the program was to keep up my studies in the next year... if i dont get in i wouldnt be heart broken

Dont mean to bust your bubble or anything but I have heard the following:

"your chances are good"
"a couple weeks"
"3-4 weeks"
"4-6 weeks"

..from either my situation on others on the waitlist.

just wanted to wish you guys luck :luck: if it helps, i got accepted late july so the waitlist definitely moves well into the summer right until the first day of classes (OOS a lot faster since the 39K price tag isnt the most attractive aspect of an education at MCV)

Get over it guys! Your school is called VCU, not MCV HA UPenn rules! You should have just gone there!

does dental school have a min age requirement?...and U Penn Med is just slightly more difficult to get into than U Penn Dental..but Im sure you already knew that.

Dude are you still posting in the pre-allo forum? Get over yourself and go to the pre-dent forum. You don't see annoying pre-meds trying to tick off pre-dents.

Oh and by the way, MD is SO MUCH superior than DDS, maybe "you should have just gone there!" 🙄

Correction. There are at least 3 pre-meds who hang out in the dental forum telling us how MD > DDS.

After talking with Dr. Whitehurst-Cook, I've learned several things that will be helpful for all of you fellow waitlisters.

1) Dr. WC said that MCV sent out several offers to those on the waitlist after the May 15th deadline. There was more movement in the OOS waitlist than the IS waitlist, but there was movement in both lists. She expects the IS waitlist to move much slower than the OOS.

2) MCV is getting ready to send out another set of offers. She said they will probably go out on Thursday. They will send out another set of offers two weeks after that. This gives those who are accepted some time to make a decision.

3) Since this is Dr. WC's first year as associate dean of admissions, they may be doing things a little differently than they have in the past.

Goodluck to all of you.

oh and, DDS Bound, you should really get a life or make some friends. I feel really sorry for you.

It is Dr. WCs first year, but last year she worked over the summer with the previous dean getting acquainted with the workings and dealings with neurotic med applicants. So it shouldn't be toooo different.

sounds like the list is moving better than last year. Good luck y'all!

big sigh of relief *whew*

waterbuffalo--if you dont mind me asking, did you email her for the info?? if so what did you write? Or are you a VCU student??

Thanks so much for the update; its making me feel alot better.👍😎

Oh and DDSBound, can you please not post in this thread? I mean its strictly for WL info.. i really don't care what the schools name is as long as it is the same waitlist lol. I hate getting excited when i see this post updated, and it turns out its just you. Please don't post in the Wl threads. Unless of course you know something about that WL, in which case, post away.

Thanks for the info waterbuffalo. Did you get this info via email?

I actually talked with Dr. WC over the phone. She told me all of these things directly.

wow, awesome. good to know. keep us posted : )

I was thinking about making a phone appointment w/ Dr. WC..but i didn't 😛 cuz i didn't know what i'd say/get really nervous haha.

Oh great, here we go again. Are we waiting until 6:04 this time 😕 This is so brutal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, still waiting😴😴😴

maybe they changed it from the 29th to the 31st. Somebody earlier mentioned Thursday?

yea, i wonder what the deal is with that? were they sending the batch today or Thursday?

😕

time to make some more phonecalls tommorrow :scared:

Hey! Just wondered if you made your phone call today or had any new information about the waitlist?

Did she give you any idea where you were on the waitlist?

Dr. WC told me via email this morning that there has been very little waitlist movement (OOS) but that several people still held multiple offers, so the waitlist will move once these people decide.

Sorry for being a pessimist, but this has not been sounding good.

With that information, are they still sending out more offers tomorrow?

hey, sorry i forgot to make that phone call, i've had abusy day : / but those last few posts arent good news.. im gonna call tomorrow for sure.

It seems from the posts made since May 15th which is the peak turnover time for the waitlist (this we can all take as fact: Dr. WC posted it herself on the mcv status page) that Dr. WC has NOT really told anyone where they stand on the list; excluding the few individuals that were told they would be receiving an offer later in the wk.

Dr. WC also posted that she would not be able to release that info and for the most part she has NOT. The news has ranged anywhere from no response to 6 weeks both of these responses are equal in my mind bc school starts in 6 wks, we will all hear something, an official rejection comes out on the first day of orientation!

My question is how can "a few OOS people" be holding more than one acceptance? Also, considering there are 80 OOS seats a few to me would mean less than 15 and unless you are at the very top of the OOS 200 person waitlist it doesn't look hopeful.

I'm working for the class of 2012...

I talked to my old pre med adviser recently and she had some sort of book/resource that the medical schools give undergrad pre med advisers. She looked up VCU and she read a statistic that was something along the lines of "25 people are accepted from the waitlist after June XX (some day late in June)"

I don't think she just made it up, I distinctly saw her reach for a book, flip to VCU (and the other schools I'm waitlisted at) and read from a section about the waitlist. I don't know if that's encouraging or not, but it seems to fall in line with people's description of VCU being a big waitlist movement school.

Maybe your adviser has some stat book but your the one that just posted that it wasn't looking good. I sure want to believe but Dr. WC has just emailed one of us saying it isn't moving and there are just a few OOS individuals who are undecided. As for instate?

Like I said, I'm pessimistic. And stats change from year to year. I just thought it might be helpful to know (somewhat) objective facts from last year.

Does anyone have WC's email address??? cant seem to find it on the website

In-state will always move slower than out-of-state (and we Virginians see more IS movement than residents in all other states, save probably 10%). The brutal reality is in-staters are holding their acceptances. The irony I see is Facebook saying the class has 71 occupied seats. Of course, not everyone is on Facebook or cares enough to join Facebook groups, but 71 occupied seats says there are plenty of acceptances not yet accepted.

Right now, I don't know if the glass is half full or half empty. We don't even know how much water is in the glass.

i think the next batch will go out today. the last batch was may 16th. today would make it 2 weeks and one day, so all the people of last batch should have made a decision by yesterday. anyway, good luck folks!

good thinking, also i called today and the secretary told me that did not make any acceptance offers sicne the 16th, the most recent offer date; Drexel is probably right, they are doing it on a biweekly basis. As far as WL movement, I think we are better off contacting Dean W-C simply because the secretary is not aware of # withdrawals, atleast thats what I was told twice. G'luck all :luck:

We have gotten alot of information on when, if, how😕 Lets just get moving waitlist, before those of us that do get in off this waitlist don't have the brains and patience to get through Med School. This has been the worst time, all the waiting and speculating. Just LET US IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙂

I have an OOS friend holding an acceptance but is on a waitlist at their first choice school. It's not much but it's something. I'll post if the offer comes through and opens a spot for one of you.

Will it be 6:04 tonight:scared: Come on BRING IT!!!!!!!!!👍

^^^^^
Welllll............haha someone email W-C! quick! i'm not going to do it till atleast next week :/ she knows my name pretty well now.

Well once again nada🙁 Still waiting😴😴😴

There was a release 2 individuals I know got in one OOS and one IS. amcas goes out in 5 days.

Hey I am a student here at MCV and I went over to the admissions office this morning to see if the next set of offers had been released yet. I was told that the next set of offers that were supposed to come out last night were not released and that the last set that was sent out was on the 16th. The Dean was not in the office today but the person that I talked to is a reliable source and the person that is responsible for sending out the acceptances. She said that if the Dean came in for lunch today that the acceptances MIGHT go out today, but that early next week they should definitely be out. So there is still hope....:clap:however there is still more waiting ahead...:bullcrap:+pity+:beat:
