Statistics show that there is less of a chance of an 'incident' if you reject someone on a Friday. That way, you know, they at least have the weekend to look forward to.

they should send out acceptances at the beginning of the week then so we have something to be happy about on monday

Nothing here yet =( I'm in Southern Cali

Interviewed on 12/16 ... *cries a little*

Maybe the 3rd batch, after Waitlist and Acceptances, is Rejection.

*sigh*

I called in after reading docontheroc's post and they said that it's too early for us January 12th people to have a decision. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait til the end of March.

in the interest of full disclosure...

i called in because im out of the country (they have a strict snail mail only policy), they said packages were mailed out yesterday so...check your mail 🙂

When I read this, I decided to call and said, "Hi interviewed during so and so time and was wondering whether a decision has been made on my file." The person at the admissions office got pretty upset that I called and told me sternly, "We do not give any updates over the phone, ever! In fact, you were told during your interview day not to even call the office to ask. You're going to have to wait just like everybody else. Again, you were told during your interview not to call our office. What is your name?" :scared: I was really polite so I don't know what brought that on and for the record, I was never told not to call the office to ask about that. We were only told not to contact our interviewers.

eek! did you tell them?

eek! did you tell them?

I took a long pause where I considered several options: 1. telling her no, it's ok, and I would just wait, 2. lying about my name, or 3. hanging up. Then I wondered if they had caller ID . I was really caught off gaurd by the manner in which she spoke to me and by her asking for my name. I ended up giving her "a" name.

hmmm...i was afraid of this, i put that 'disclosure' in there about the strict snail mail policy (and the fact that packages were sent out yesterday) so you guys would know not to rush to the phones...

i think they were probably angry because they got calls after mine (at least two posted here), and i apologize if i caused anyone any undue stress. should've been more clear.

OMG OMG OMG. Received the acceptance letter today. Jan. interviewee. 100% attending!! I live in the bay area, so packets are probably on their way to other parts of the country!! 😀 :luck: :xf: For everyone else!!

Congraaaaaaaats! Post on the acceptance thread and join us over in the UCSF Class of 2013 thread 🙂

I interviewed 1/13.

Dammit, the woman on the phone then straight up lied to me. I interviewed on 1/12. I would have rather had her scream at me for calling (like the poster above) than spout out more BS. Probably means I was put on a high priority waitlist too (lol at the "high priority" part). Congrats on your acceptance buddy, UCSF is a great place to be.

when did you interview? trying to guage whether i might be in this wave of decisions...... without calling 🙂 :xf:

Thanks, everyone!! I still can't believe this. This is my 3rd time applying to medical school...wow. What a shocker!!!
I interviewed the week of 1/12.

thanks, UCSF is awesome.

just an observation, but someone was put on high priority at the beginning of the week, someone was rejected in the middle of the week, and now people are getting acceptances...just a thought. mail is slow, it might come tomorrow or monday.

Congrats to everyone accepted! I hope to meet some of you at second look 🙂

To those still waiting, I don't think it's necessarily bad news. I interviewed in early December and heard back in January. My student host at UCSF interviewed the same week in December the year before and didn't hear anything until April. No HP waitlist or anything; it just took that many months. It seems with UCSF that no new is really just no news. Good luck!

I think this is a key point. The dean was really clear about this - unliked some other schools, all of their batches are mixed results. If you haven't heard and someone else on your interview day did, it's just that your interviewer was slow with the paperwork or something.

No news = no news.

Also received an acceptance letter this Friday (I am in California, so the mail was delivered quickly!)

So surprised and excited, I definitely did not expect to hear anything until March or April!! I had interviewed in November, received the high priority letter in January, and then accepted in Feb - so that means there is movement on the hp list. Good luck to everyone!!

they are already going to the HP waitlist?? This goes against a million things we know about UCSF

yah i think they do some initial acceptances off the HP list before they compile the alternate list...

@squ14hi: did you send a LOI or anything like that?

Nope, no LOI. *shrug*

hi guys,

I got an acceptance letter too (sort of stunned; wasn't expecting to hear anything til april)! I interviewed in late november and was put on the HP list in January. I was out of the country so not sure exactly when it arrived, but think it was Sat or yesterday. Also, I sent a letter of interest right before I left town (dropped it in the mail early monday morning, the 22nd). I'm in NY so I'm not even sure they read it before making the decision (the acceptance letter is dated 2/25). Anyway, very happy! Good luck everyone.

just got my big envelope!!!! yippeeeeeee 😀

hey guys...i was accepted yesterday...OOS mid jan interviewer....let's take it 2 the baaayyy!

I have a phone interview for UCSF PRIME coming up. Can anyone elucidate a little on what it is like? Also does anyone know exactly how interviewing for PRIME affects overall admissions? If I were to totally bomb my PRIME interview, does that only affect my chances of getting into PRIME, or will it also hurt my chances of getting into the regular program which I already interviewed for in early February? I wonder how intertwined the two admissions processes are.

... so I shouldn't stressed even if I interviewed 1/8 and haven't heard anything yet? I live like 10 minutes from UCSF... I want (need :scared:) UCSF sooo bad. Anybody know if being a PRIME applicant impacts how early u get word back? I don't think it should...

Hey Cheem MD,

I don't think I can tell you to not be stressed...it's hard not to be! I was bouncing off the walls before I heard from UCSF. 😳 However, no news is no news! UCSF does reject people post-interview throughout the application cycle. Not hearing anything when other people have heard probably means 1 of 3 things:

1. Your interviewers were not able to make it to the February meeting.
2. Your interviewers hadn't had time to write your narratives, and/or not everyone on your subcommittee had time to fully review your entire application by the February meeting.
3. Your application was discussed but no decision was made.

I think those of us who interviewed around the time you did and have heard back already were simply verrrrry lucky that our interviewers got their narratives done and could make it to the meeting.

You will hear back! The question is when. 🙂 For every day that went by and I heard nothing from UCSF I told myself "Goody! Another day to keep dreaming." 😀
:luck::luck:

Hey everyone, I just created a facebook group for the c/o 2013 (I know its early, but I thought it would be fun).

I hope I get this link right, but if not, I apologize. I'm sort of a newbie to facebook.

Oh, and if you have an acceptance, but you're not 100% sure yet, it would still be cool for you to join and connect with your potential classmates. Maybe you will be persuaded???

Anyway, just wanted to liven things up a bit!

This might be THE most optimistic thing I've heard all year! Thank you for this!!!🙂

getting nervous b/c I should be hearing soon...trying to stay calm

Man **** UCSF. It was my last hope to leave san diego (I REALLY don't want to go to UCSD for another 4 years) but alas, I received my rejection letter in the mail today. I am probably going to be rejected from Harvard too. Oh well, I guess everything happens for a reason.

Interviewed 1/12, Rejected today, whatever day it is.

Got put on high priority waitlist today =(

Sorry to hear about your rejection BluntSurgeon. But UCSD is a great school, so don't be too upset.

I'm sorry. When did you interview?

ohhhh man I'm getting really nervous...I interviewed in early Feb...definitely my dream school, but also well aware how awesome the applicants are

All my mail gets sent home to Los Angeles, but I am in Philly...so I have to wait for my parents to get home

Does anyone know when people who interviewed in early February will hear about decisions? My understanding is that their adcom meets this week and letters will be sent out at the end of the month. Is this right? Have people had to wait a lot longer than this?

I interviewed in early February.

Where do you live? You might either receive correspondence soon or your interviewers were unable to make the most recent adcomm meeting

I interviewed on the 3rd, wow I didn't know February interviewees had already heard back. I live in the bay area, so I should be among the first to hear back if there is indeed a set day when they send out decisions. I figured I wouldn't hear until the last week of March based on when past decisions were sent. Now I'm nervous. I hope my decision doesn't get pushed back to next month, I'm tired of waiting.

I broke down and called today and was told the next batch of acceptances will be going out March 26 or so. This last batch was rejections and waitlists...

When did you interview? So if waitlist/rejections have already been sent, that must mean the adcoms already met. Do you think they have already decided on who is accepted and just need to get final approval by Dean Wofsy before they physically send out the acceptance letters? Why would there be a 2 week period separating waitlist/rejections and acceptances?

I hope this means good news for you guys!

I am hoping I can get off the HP list...I really liked the school.
I am also waiting to hear back from its neighbor 40 min southeast...but I hope I eventually hear the really good news from UCSF

Yeah I don't know why there is a separation, though my guess would be it's because the adcoms met already, acceptances take longer to process, and they're trying to expedite decisions to the extent possible this late in the cycle. I interviewed the 2nd week of February.

HP letter today. Very disappointing. Sorry if this has already been asked (and I will probably search the thread as well to find my answer), but what are the odds of getting in after being deemed high priority?
