But isn't the class size 150 ???

maybe so...but does the 251 refer to people who were outright accepted or does it include those who were eventually accepted as well?

what did the letter say regarding further correspondence to people on the HP list?

Keep the hope alive 🙂

I'm pretty sure the 250 number is the number of ppl who were eventually accepted to fill the 150 spots.

Based on the past 2 months' accept/HP/reject patterns, it looks like HP/rejections are being mailed this week...so if you don't hear anything from UCSF this week and on into early next week, you probably have a good chance at receiving a big, fat envelope as early as March 27 (depending on where you live)! :luck::luck::xf::luck::xf::luck:

So nobody called to ask if anymore HP/rejection letters were going out this month?

I am so nervous right now, I still haven't heard anything and I interviewed Feb 3rd. I know that at this point it is good news that I haven't already received a WL/Rejection letter, but there still is a chance that I wasn't reviewed and will have to wait until next month. I thought about calling just to ask if my file had been reviewed, but I'm not sure if they let us know that kind of information. I will probably just suck it up and wait until the end of March, if I don't hear anything by then, I'll call.

I know how you feel. UCSF is my top school. I interviewed back in January and I'm still freaking out that maybe they're going to send another batch of WL/rejections next week. I'm still nervous. If I get into UCSF it'll be a dream come true. I almost called in yesterday to ask about another potential batch of WL/rejections but I decided to just wait it out. Don't ever call and ask about your file specifically. Scroll back a page or two and read what happened to me when I did that . Hopefully we hear back in a week.

I would try not to worry about it b/c you either fall into one of two options:

1. acceptance (coming this week) or
2. interviewers did not submitt their write up on time...thus pushing review of your file back

however I suspect it is the former!!!!!!! I am going to go ahead and say congrats now!

I hope I eventually get in...off the HP list...as UCSF is my dream school

Just to help out those who are still waiting to hear back, I got a WL letter (high priority position) Friday. It was post-marked 3/19, and I live in the bay area.

Does anybody know the chances of getting in after being placed in a high priority position? I am not giving up hope but still want to know where I stand! :xf:

By the way, thanks to everybody on this thead. It was really helpful.

What day did you interview? I wonder why you received the letter later than those who received it last week.

I interviewed the first week of Feb. I was hoping that the lateness of the letter meant good news, but oh well... I have to say my heart sank when I saw that envelop 🙁

Well, the truth of it all is that quite a few people get in off the waitlist. When I was interviewing there, most of the students that I met got in that way. So I'd say that you are still in fairly good shape, especially since they've already awarded acceptances off the waitlist this application year.

I interviewed the second week of February as an OOS applicant and have yet to hear, so I'm still hoping for good news come late next week. I really liked the campus and the student body, though I'm afraid that it is going to be prohibitively expensive for me to attend. Even CA residents who I know that have been accepted to UCSF have said that they are in for some pretty heavy debt come graduation.

really? UCSF brags that their avg debt upon graduation is ~$66k. Do you mean in comparison to other state schools or private schools?

i read somewhere on an older forum here that the 66k, although reported on the website, was a slightly outdated number...the UC system is getting a little pinched for cash (i think for some campuses--maybe just the undergrad though--they've talked about increasing their OOS allotment by as much as 20% to compensate for lack of funding). i think the same thread said now it's somewhere in the 100k's for instaters.

I would imagine that the cost of attending UCSF is definitely more expensive than your average state school and comparable, if not more expensive, to private schools. In Texas, you could go to UTSW and pay, according to their financial aid table, just shy of $18K if you're a resident, $31K if you are an out-of-stater for the whole package minus cost of living.

In comparison, the figures quoted to me from UCSF give an annual total of $27.5K if you're a CA resident and nearly $40K if you aren't for the same deal. Then you have to factor in the cost of living. San Francisco's is certainly among the highest in the nation, so there's no reason why the actual cost wouldn't be much greater than the one we have on paper, which is $46.5K for residents and $59K for OOS. I would imagine that UTSW's package totals somewhere around $30K for residents and $43K for OOS.

Compared to private schools, since the entire state of California is strapped for cash, I imagine that their scholarships cannot match those of the privates (excluding, of course, merit scholarships). Like htownpremie said above me, I can't see why they might not institute a tuition hike sometime soon. That would put students into an even deeper hole.

But this is only what I'm thinking. If I'm accepted, I'm still going to apply for financial aid, see what they offer and compare it to others. UCSF is definitely not your average state school, just like UCLA and UCSD, but I don't want to be drowning in debt when I graduate.

Has anybody that has been accepted already received a financial aid package? If this isn't too nosy of me, what was it like?

I'm filling it out now... I don't think I'll hear back until April though.

Actually to be more accurate, my dad is filling it out and when he called to ask, they said it doesn't matter if you fill it out ASAP or wait a bit, we'll find out about our financial aid packages in april (or was it may...)

For those who received the "High Priority" letter early on, do you have this message on your status page:

"Correspondence has been mailed to you regarding your application to the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. If you have not received it, you may call the Admissions Office. Please note that we are unable to discuss status information over the phone."

I interviewed Nov, received high priority Jan, but just noticed this message last week.

Was this change made after you received the high priority letter, or should I be expecting something in the mail some time soon?

whewww....thanks for the quick response! since seeing that msg, i've been neurotically stressing out about whether to call the admin office.

I called the admissions office this morning and asked if anything had been mailed to me. She said that nothing has yet, but that if something was mailed my status page would show that I should be receiving correspondence soon. I asked her if everyone who interviewed in early February had been reviewed, and she said she didn't have access to that information, but that
"I should hear something by the second week of April." I don't know exactly what that means, but I thought I would know by the end of march or early april if in fact acceptances are mailed on the 26th as was posted on this thread previously. I figured if I got a letter the 27-30th I would be in, and if not then my file was pushed back. But apparently there may be more waiting in store for me. I am so tired of waiting...

I didn't get a letter today in southern california. I'm starting to get excited. I really hope I get good news later this week.

Best of :luck: to all of you! If they do mail packets on 3/26, then Bay Area people will get them Friday...! 🙂 Please join the UCSF C/O 2013 thread in the allo forums - it's pretty dead now, so it'll be great to have more people posting! 😀

So according to a previous post they should be mailing out a batch of letters tomorrow. Can we all make sure to post if our status changes on the ucsf website. I hope they stick to their word and actually send letters out tomorrow.

When I called last week they told me they would send letters out on or around March 26. Can someone call and ask if they do in fact plan to send letters out tomorrow?

My status didn't change for a while after I got accepted- I didn't know it would change so I didn't check very often, but I definitely remember it still saying "thank you for interviewing" or whatever it says after I had been accepted. Then I just checked a few days ago after all the updates on here and it does say "something has been mailed to you."

Gah I cracked and called. I was told, "Only acceptance letters are going out tomorrow"....:scared:

Maybe some good news this weekend? Gaaahhhhh

I applied for UCSF housing (parnassus) with Jul 1st as my move in date. I'm not entirely sure how this works, but it seems like the units can be 2 bedrooms for 2 people, or 3+ people in a shared group house, where everybody has their own room.

We're allowed to request roommates (er, apartment-mates?), I think. Anybody else moving in around that time? I'd prefer not to have a totally random roommate, although I'm sure that could work out just fine, too.

how/where do you apply? I had no idea this was something to be doing right now. Does anyone know about couples housing at UCSF? thanks!

The UCSF Application Status web page:

This site will be intermittently unavailable on March 25, Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM (PST) for approximately 2 hours for site maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Looks like they're updating a few things tonight.

so I found the answer to my questions 🙂 and I applied for housing as well, but family housing. The application process was weird, I don't like that they wait to tell you whether you get an apartment until 2 months before move-in, especially since I see the apartments advertised on Craigslist right now!

Sounds like you're pretty sure you're going to UCSF. Are you still considering other schools? Also, don't classes at UCSF start in September?

I'm from the bay area, and UCSF has always been my front runner.

I wanted to apply for housing, etc, because I'll most likely be going there.

But I'm still visiting UCSD/UCLA next week, and Yale in a couple weeks. I'm not sure why I prefer UCSF over UCLA, so I need to figure that out.

I need to see whether the Yale System is something that I'd prefer over UCSF, but Yale also has a bigger price tag.

Then I'm going to give Michigan some more thought because of the scholarship, but I don't think it's enough to entice me away from UCSF - maybe if it were full-tuition...

Still waiting for financial info from WashU , too.

So in conclusion, I'm leaning towards UCSF, but I haven't 100% decided yet.

Has anyone's application status page changed? I wonder if it changes before or after most people have received their letters. Please post if yours does change.

Snowshoes, can you check to see if you have a change on your status page saying you were mailed something?

Sorry for the lateness of my reply.

I just checked and it still says:
"Your file will soon undergo full Committee review. As soon as a decision is reached, you will be notified via U.S. mail. This may occur any time between now and May. However, we will make every effort to complete our review of your application in a timely manner."

I guess HPL decision isn't considered "a decision." 😀

When did you get HPL? It might be just lagging for me since I got HPL last Friday.
