Yes and I believe I was the last one to be waitlisted on this thread, so I bet you are right.

i think this might be right, too.

It's not in order of when you were waitlisted because I was waitlisted on 4/29 and I got my email earlier than the "S" last names. Kpm - I'd just call...emails can easily bounce back for odd reasons.

Haha, god that's a horrible thought. I just keep thinking about the letter of intent I could send my second-choice school once I have my Umass rejection in hand. Why does this never end?

Do you guys live around Boston though? I was thinking mine just took longer to get to me because of the distance. Uggghhh Umass whyyyy

Dude, I live in freaking BOLTON. A grand 20 minutes from Worcester. My rejection letter should have arrived eons before anyone else. And yet, still no letter.

Maybe that's a good thing :D. Hopefully, next week will provide some final answers!

Aaaaaaannnnd still no letter. I can't wait til Sunday, when it's not even possible to get mail. Then I can take a break from the madness.

Maybe they object to Parker grads, rara? Perhaps they think we're weird hippie liberals who need to be educated in the harsh ways of the real world? (actually, I have no idea. I am grasping at straws at this point)

When is/was osteoblast? Are you going?

It has arrived: the dreaded thin envelope.

That makes 18 for 18 rejections to US schools for 2009; 25 for 25 over the past two years! I really should add this as a skill on my AMCAS...

At least UMass really made me understand the Kubler-Ross model:

Last week was Denial, when I saw people get in off the wait-list (deep down I figured I was screwed at that point)... anger was expressed in random expletives over the past 6 months as well as when I tore my rejection letter to pieces... I bargained almost constantly with magic 8 ball online and my parrot (who is a real oracle)... Depression was brief but I expect that to hit a lot harder when I walk back into my cubicle tomorrow... and finally Acceptance... wait, I didn't get accepted - anywhere! aarrgh!

Hopefully, I will get into St. George's. I thought about Special Masters but IMO it is a nearly complete waste of money. I also considered other, more useful grad programs, such as Bio-informatics or an MPH, but really that type of education is a lot easier to get (or get specialists to work for you) or free (as MPH programs are) when you have an MD.

I know that every year more I have to wait to get into med school is one less year I can really spend changing medicine and society as a doctor. My effectiveness in creating change is a lot less as a BS than it will be as an MD.

So, while my mind is not completely made up and I may re-apply after maybe retaking the MCAT AGAIN... I more likely see myself going to SGU if accepted and will see you lucky accepted folks, and those who will eventually get in, at conferences and in hospitals in the future! Good luck!

Virusgirl... maybe. I've seen parkerism before. Pretty much everyone at my college thought the whole idea was... reproachable.

envirodoc... I'm sorry:(. It's been a long road. I know you have your qualms, but if SGU doesn't work out, think about DO schools next year and you can have influence and intrigue while changing the mysterious face of my future profession.

I celebrated siete de mayo tonight... and I have to present a poster tomorrow. I'm thinking of just saying whatever day it is in spanish and "de mayo" for every day this month, the most stressful month of the application cycle. Mojitos, yaaaaaaaay!

it's friday. i'm wondering if this means anything anymore.......

Doubtful. They're probably waiting to drop the one big one around the same time as last year.....so here's hoping that I get drunk enough during the weekend that time will fly by quickly.

so that would be monday or tuesday....:xf::xf::xf::xf: good thing i'm going to florida again this weekend.....

When is/was osteoblast? Are you going?

It was back in March or April, but I'm already chest-deep in undeserved vacation days from work due to all my interviews being in the middle of the damn week and in the middle of nowhere, so I couldn't take off more time to go up. I heard it was good though. I made everyone promise they wouldn't all make friends without me :)

Well, got the R letter today. Time to face the music - aka toughing out the next few months while precariously sitting on (ouch) three waitlists. At least UMass won't add to that madness. Four waitlist might be too much anxiety to handle..

Nice getting to know you all via internet forum. Best of luck!!!

Sorry to hear it erawka.

I just called to see if I could add my poster to my file. A letter was mailed to me Monday.

So, that's it! Don't know why it's taking so long but I damn well know what it's going to say when it gets here.

Thanks you guys for being such a supportive group. It's been wonderful knowing that there are so many great people out there that will soon be great doctors.

I'm out.

Got my rejection letter yesterday! So stocked! Thank you UMASS!

Actually I am deeply saddened :(

My thoughts are with everyone who got their recently got their rejections. This whole process is not fair and I am sure that you will all make amazing physicians in the future!

That being said... I know that my blood pressure is up today. I can't believe that May 15th is right around the corner and that there most likely will be some serious movement in the days ahead. Eek!

I concur. This whole process makes no sense at all. Good luck to everyone in whatever they do.

I also concur with the increased blood pressure and nervous twitches. I can't believe that I can actually begin to see the end of this hellish road. :)

You guys think the waitlist will move right after the 15th?

Im guessing they accepted the exact number of ppl who can matriculate...so for every spot withdrawn by the 15th there should be a person taken off the waitlist, right?

STILL waiting for my letter.

WTF!(*^!*%$*#&$)(@&*#$(*&#!

virusgirl, can't believe that you have not heard about your status. Have you called to ask?
best of luck!

STILL waiting for my letter.

WTF!(*^!*%$*#&$)(@&*#$(*&#!

Ms. Virion,

I see 2 possible explanations for this:
a) your mailman is secretly in love with you and doesn't want to cause you any psychological harm
b) UMass is waiting to surprise you at your house with a giant check/acceptance letter

Personally, I'm hoping for b.

In all seriousness though, I feel like this can only be a good thing... they've clearly sent out all their rejections. Perhaps you could get a flat out acceptance in the next week-ish. After all the waiting, they best be accepting you! (That, and I want you to come :p)

Not to be a downer, but I think when I got rejected 2 years ago they were still sending letters out at the end of the cycle ~May 15th....maybe they are mixing it up this year, but just dont get ur hopes up due to speculation, cuz thats the worst thing to do throughout this process, ya know?

Sorry for the bump, Bass -- try not to have a heart attack!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have now been OFFICIALLY rejected over the phone, as my letter apparently disappeared into the void...

I'm definitely sad, mostly because I've now met a bunch of you guys and would have really liked to have you as my classmates, but I can't say it didn't come as a surprise. And I've been mentally preparing myself as the months (and months... and months...) went by for this to happen, so I don't feel too badly.

I'll definitely still be hanging around the thread though, because I'm rooting for all of you wait-listers!

So sorry to hear that virusgirl :( It is UMASS's loss
Tulane is an amazing school and it is a great time to be there and make a difference
All the best! :)

I'm so sorry about this... I really wish it had worked out and you were a part of our class :( Nonetheless, Tulane is a great school and New Orleans needs some M@$$hole influence!!

I am sorry virusgirl! I bet New Orleans will be a fantastic place to go to medical school, however. And now you can focus 100% on planning for that, which will definitely make your life better and easier than before...

jeez, when is this waitlist going to start moving again??!! the suspense is KILLING me. :scared: has anyone tried call the admin office? not that they're likely to divulge anything.

I know!! Seriously UMass, I've seen yeast that schmoo faster than you guys work!

Also, just checking back even later on the threads, it seems like the acceptances on the 12th last year were an anomaly. Looks like the 17th/18th is the usual big day.:xf: Guess that means I'll have to get drunk again this weekend to make the time go by faster:D.

On a lighter note, as we await waitlist movement.... have any of you who live or work in boston seen the wild turkeys roaming around and chasing people? Funny stuff.

Yes!! There's one female chilling between Children's and Dana Farber. I think I disturbed her the other day when I tried to feed her some bread....

Omg, congratulations on your acceptance!! That is great!!!
How did you find out?

Thanks! I found out through email...

Also, for all those re-applicants, it's possible. I went through 3 cycles, so just keep on keeping on!

congrats, MChitty!!!! after 3 cycles that must be such a relief. for those of us still on the waitlist, do you remember when there was a lot of movement in previous years? were you waitlisted in 2007 and 2008?

Thanks! I don't think relief even begins to describe...

I was actually rejected post-interview in 2007, so unfortunately, not much help. But I definitely remember being rejected a lot earlier than the letters were sent out this year--mid-April I believe. I got no interview in 2008, so definitely can't help there...

MChitty, congrats again!
Just wondering, what time did you get the email? I feel that a lot of the correspondence from UMASS comes in between 2 - 3 pm

Congrats MChitty!! You are fierce, can't wait to meet you. :)

As for turkeys, no, I haven't seen any this yeah, but there used to be one living in Kendall near my office. He was kind of an area mascot, until one day someone killed him. It was so sad. :(

Thanks again! I think I got the email in the 1pm hour...maybe 1:15ish?

Fierce! I have always wanted to be described like that...can't wait to meet you all too!

I think those of us on the waitlist prob wont hear much for a while; from what the admissions office told me, they said the waitlist isn't ranked, so when a spot opens up, the adcom meets and decides from the pool of waitlisters.

That means that people who are waiting til tonight at midnight to decide yes or no on UMass, and are also waiting to get off other waitlists, there wont be any spots at UMass til after this Friday, and possibley later, depending on when other schools start accepting from their own waitlists.

Then once that happens, the adcom needs to meet.

Ahhhh more waiting!

Hi all,

I just withdrew my acceptance from UMass. It was a really hard decision, hence why I waited until the very last second to do it. The school and its students are great. UMass was the first school to accept me and I'll always be fond of the institution for the stress relief that brought me for the rest of this application cycle. For personal reasons, the location was the deal breaker for me.

I hope one of the WL-ers on this thread get that spot!

:luck: Good luck! :luck:
