OK. Here's my recollection of the entire interview process for future interviewees, I hope it helps. Also, this will be more of a list format.
I drove to St. Louis and stayed at Olin Hall.
The guard at the front desk was very friendly. You are given the awesome Dis-Orientation book, a bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash inside. Oh, and the key and the swipe card. Literally everywhere you go will require the swipe card.
The 2nd floor weight room has modern equipment, the bench press bench isn't very good, but otherwise the equipments themselves are fine. However, the room is more of a hallway, it's very narrow 🙁 The cardio room is excellent though.
The pizza party is nice, I was surprised by the turnout, there were about 40-50 med students/interviewees there. If pizza isn't your thing, there's an Applebee's 5 min walk away that closes at 11 PM.
7:15AM: The breakfast was essentially a chat with med students, you get a meal ticket and pick anything you want from the cafe. I should mention that a med student bought 6 eggs. He's smart (well duh, that's why he's in med school), egg white is widely agreed upon as the best source of protein, because almost all the egg white protein is digested and fully absorbed. I personally went with 1 egg and 6 strawberries, but there were lots of breakfast options.
7:45AM: Check in at admissions office, get your name tag and folder, the office will draw your routes for you on your map so you know how to get to places throughout the day. Your folder will include a "Wash. U. Rules! Ruler/Stressometer", I don't believe it's accurate, as I felt nervous yet the results read CALM.
8:00AM: Dean Dodson gives an orientation of WashU for about 30 minutes and goes over the curriculum, answers questions, etc. For the second half there's a financial aid info session by the financial aid office.
After this it depends on your schedule, you could potentially have an interview at 9:30 AM followed by a tour at 11:00AM, or an tour at 9:00 AM followed by an interview at 10:30 AM.
My interviewer was retired, so he only interview med school and residency applicants, but he was very accomplished during his career. The interview was very relaxing and essentially a chat, I found out he was familiar with aspects of personal statement, so that might be why he was my interviewer. We chatted about restaurants, St. Louis, WashU. Questions asked were:
How would your friends describe you
Describe your research
Whats the most important thing you've learned through research
Whats the most important thing you've done in undergrad
He never asked me why medicine or why WashU.
After that he answered my questions, and explained the application process, and walked me to the lunch area.
Noon: Lunch was good, very very good 🙂 Med students were there to chat with us. Dean Dodson came later on and sat at our table to eat and chatted with us, and walked us back to the admissions office.
